I understand mild spanking when it comes to safety issues, playing in the street or stuff like that. But legal or not, I think it's bad parenting to go much beyond that.

I usually like locking the kids in the cellar for 3 days without light and no food

Then you probably shouldn't teach them how to fire a gun while they're still living with you.

Just some friendly advice.

but with no light they wouldnt be forced to ...*gasp*...READ. and thank god for that.
I'm simultaneously breaking their spirit and destroying their eyesight by having them try to read in the dark.

ooooh, i think the pinnacle of insidious mental torture might just be...AUDIOBOOKS

remember, in Texas, book lernin' is considered torture

I would probably start looking at some state by state education stats before I knock Texas for their education system. I know Texas is usually ranked 10ish. Where does Oregon rank?

If brainiacs IP address is a true indication to his location, he's not in Oregon. And if his location is accurate, his state ranks higher than Texas.

Which means a whole lot of nothing.

Ya.

I just get tired of people insulting Texas for their education system, when it's better than most states.

People weren't insulting Texas or their education system. They were having some fun at your post defending Peterson because spanking is legal in Texas when what he did to his son had nothing to do with spanking.

Mainly we were poking fun at the thought that someone forcing their children to read books is worse than someone hitting their kids.

I would rather get beat, crucified then eaten by lions then read books

New Hampshire has no income or sales tax.

Live free or die.

This was so funny, I had to reply twice.

Why do you want to get beat, then crucified, then eaten by lions and then read books?

Does that mean you would live after being eaten by the lions, and they would then poop you out, still alive, and then you'd read a book?

Have you all been following this?

While I agree with spanking, lacerations are not ok. And the pictures look too excessive

There are rumors Peterson made his kid put leaves in his mouth and pull his pants down before hitting him with the stick.

The child's mom is saying she is going to expose ap for the guy he really is.

Hopefully the nfl gets this right and bans him a year like they did ray rice.

Imo assaulting a child (which to me means much more than just spanking) is worse than hitting an adult woman.

Both are bad. But you get the point.

I still feel that people overreact about spanking a kid, but I rescind anything about people overreacting to ap after seeing the pictures and available facts and accusations. Ap is a terrible person and he went far overboard from just a spanking.

Add me to the kids that were spanked with a wooden spoon, but what AP did is really fucked up looking at those pictures.

Your initial comment mocks the media witch hunt, and though the initial story had all of these allegations in it, the continued witch hunt by the media unveils pictures, which cause you to change your thinking on it? Without that media witch hunt, just hearing about the whipping and cuts wasn't enough.
Seems like the media continuing with their witch hunt is actually necessary, so they can expose the issues to people like you who, without pictures, otherwise seemed perfectly ok with it, and thought people needed to get a life and mind their own business.

The media witch hunt can still be ridiculous. Where have those pictures been reported? Seems to me everyone shit themselves about ray rice, but they are sweeping the pictures under the rug no? I haven't seen them reported and shown on any large newscasts yet. If they have let me know, I havent been catching up with each news report on it, but other forums I frequent have been saying they are not on CNN, espn, etc.

At the time I stated those things I had been listening to espn and felt they portrayed the events as less than they were. After seeing the pictures I agreed that it was far too excessive.

Were my original comments Insensitive? Probably. But I didn't know the facts and assumed it was just another spanking story based on what I had interpreted when this first hit espn.

There was an article linked in the first post of this thread with the details and pictures of the abuse.

I did not click on the link or read it. My information at that time was only what I had heard on espn television. I don't remember much detail and there definitely had been no pictures. So obviously I was wrong and I completely agree that ap went overboard and was wrong.

Wasnt the ray rice video all over the news though? As in reported and shown clips on news tv? Why aren't the ap kid pictures being shown? Seems to be being swept under the rug a little bit more than rice was. Why is that?

But that's the odd thing, you complain about the witch hunt, but needed them to carry through with it, to reveal pictures, for you to see the seriousness of the abuse. So you benefited, in a sense, from the witch hunt.

Also, in general, I'd say having a strong opinion on a topic without actually reading what's linked isn't the wisest of choices.

Why do you need to see pictures, and for the "media witch hunt" to continue to get mad about it?

This must be what it feels like to have been a rabble rouser in the ot section. Good to know.
