An ongoing parking dispute apparently led to the shooting deaths of three young adults at a housing complex in Chapel Hill near the campus of University of North Carolina, police said Wednesday morning.

Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, Chapel Hill police said, and he arrived for his first court appearance Wednesday morning in nearby Durham. He was ordered held without bail, pending a March 4 probable cause hearing.

CAIR, the Council on American Islamic Relations, said Hicks described himself on Facebook as an “anti-theist'' and has posted condemnations of all religions. One post, a picture from United Atheists of America, asks “why radical Christians and radical Muslims are so opposed to each others' influence when they agree about so many ideological issues.”

“Based on the brutal nature of this crime, the past anti-religion statements of the alleged perpetrator, the religious attire of two of the victims, and the rising anti-Muslim rhetoric in American society, we urge state and federal law enforcement authorities to quickly address speculation of a possible bias motive in this case,” Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American Islamic Relations, said in a prepared statement. “Our heartfelt condolences go to the families and loved ones of the victims and to the local community.”

How do you get from "parking dispute" to the notion he killed because of his (n0n)religious beliefs?

I call bull-dada.

I have never seen a Muslim killed because of their religion. Their unwillingness to release a hostage prescribed the result.

Another odd connection, I have never seen a pirate that wasn't a Muslim. The geography of the occupation, suggests it will continue for other observers but not in North Carolina.

It seems incongruous that a Christian would target a Muslim for being a Muslim, another son of Abraham and follower of the same God. It also would be action in contradiction with the teachings of Jesus.

Some other connection no doubt.

I doubt they were killed because they were Muslim. I think that atheist was just another bat shit crazy looney. Insanity holds no predudice for belief or lack of belief.

This just proves atheists can be just as fucking stupid as the theists they claim are stupid
