Anyone use these things?
Do they actually work?
If so where should I place it?/Should I sit within a few feet of it when I'm in my house?
Do I run it 24/7?
Is it going to ruin my computer or electronics if I place it nearby? Google says no but says not to place near tv/stereo/etc.

Basically the story goes like this.
My gf and her mother were talking about how I was basically sick for the first six months of this year.
They decided to purchase me an air purifier for my house.
I told them it was unnecessary...
I told them kids are petri dishes for colds. I will just have to deal with it until my immune system gets used to it.
In the meantime I would just get more sleep and not exhaust myself. But they didn't listen, and an air purifier arrived today at my door.

Those things are built for one purpose only: for the government to spy on you.

I would recommend having sex with it, then smashing it with the largest rock you can lift.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

...

This is such a dumb post.
Literally you had no reason whatsoever to post this.
I'm not a conspiracy nut.
Therefore you're an idiot.

Edit my post if you want.
But for a moderator of this site to post something so ignorant in a reply to someone who he's had basically zero interaction with in.. shit I don't even know how long... is complete bullshit.
I mean his post isn't even funny.

Id like the qualudes to be passed around and shared.

My wife uses one. It helps her snore less when sleeping. She has bad allergies and gets stuffed up a lot.

Methaqualone, sold under the brand name Quaalude and sometimes stylized "Quāālude" in the United States and Mandrax in the United Kingdom and South Africa, is a sedative and hypnotic medication. It is a member of the quinazolinone class.

I meant the effects, not the facts. :)

I, too, am highly offended. How could the government listen to you over the ruckus? Why is barfo against us noisy fans?

Saying it isn't funny is a reasonable response, if you don't find it so.
Saying I had no reason to post it is certainly true.
Saying that I'm an idiot is arguably correct.

But I didn't accuse you of being a conspiracy theorist. I would have posted that same response no matter which poster had started the thread. It wasn't aimed at you, my intent was not personal to you at all, and I'm sorry you took it that way.

It was just a joke, and the joke wasn't about you. It was about air purifiers, if it was about anything at all.

That's called a CPAP not an air purifier, although CPAPs to have a small artificial material filter and even a tray for water. The purpose of the CPAP really has nothing to do with purifying air.

I took his post as nothing more than good natured humor and damned good humor at that. I feel certain that he meant you no offense.

I'm confused, are you urging him to "share (a) man" or do you mean "share, man"?

Lol, Share, man.

No. She doesn’t have a cpap. I should have clarified. She thinks it helps her snoring. Lol.
It’s just an air purifier.

Women

By the way, I snore and so I have a CPAP. They tell me my heart will last longer with the proper and continued use of my CPAP.

There is only one rule that is strictly enforced in the OT section.

At no time, ever. Nothing logical or on topic will be posted by a mod. Starting arguments is mandatory..

Now, throw in global mod, and the silliness needle pegs out.

...it would be most helpful if the OP included the make/model of the air purifier that arrived at his front door. From there, us consumer report nerds could help determine if the one you now have is actually worthless or not :dunno:

I think air purifiers can be helpful for people who have problems with their airways, bronchial issues. But as far as contracting some illness I doubt it bacause those germs will be fine people you contact away from the house or those who live in the house with you. Those away from the house will see no effect. Those in the house are most likely your family whom you kiss, hug and touch often, again, no effect from the purifier.

But if you have bronchial issues the purifier could certainly help lessen the symptoms.

I’m not sure how the portable units work, but my family has been in the HVAC business since the early 1930’s and they were amongst the first purveyors of the “fixed” systems that were incorporated into the HVAC systems themselves. My mother suffered from terrible allergies and life improved dramatically for her when Dad finally got around to installing one in our house. Being the cheap bastard that I am, I just buy the best furnace filter for allergen capture that I can and I make sure I faithfully swap it out every 2 or 3 months. They are very effective for the price......but mechanical type (or “electrostatic”) air purifiers are still the better choice if you can afford it.

best air purifier....quit smoking

Nice assumption.
I don't smoke, anything.
Never have smoked a ciggarette, and the last time I did cronic was..... 2012.
You may leave now.

What about charcoal filters?

Air purifiers can be a mixed bag, but they do work in improving indoor air quality. You can place it in the room where you spend most of your time, and sitting a few feet from it won't hurt. Running it 24/7 is usually fine.
