Lamarcus Aldridge has agreed to a five year extension worth approximately $70 million with Portland, a league source tells Y! Sports.

:ghoti:

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

Too much money in my opinion...that could be max money next year

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

Nice!

One less thing to bitch/worry about.

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

Wait a second, I thought we had agreed that KP hated PF's.

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

Investing that much money (almost max money) into a non-all star, yet, is fiscally irresponsible

But here is some clearing information that makes me feel better

YahooSportsNBA Lamarcus Aldridge extension could reach $70 million with incentives, but assures him between $65-$68 million over five seasons with Portland

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

I'm curious to those who say "too much money" how does that affect us? Its not like this team was gonna be under the cap after this year...

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

It's a good thing we saved 400k from keeping Mills instead of Udoka, if we hadn't done that LMA wouldn't be signed!

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

if oden has a great season we could be over the cap with 3 players in 2012

weeeeee :ghoti:

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

we have roy and la signed... if they wanna save $$$$ by cutting ime or collins...

who the fuck cares

I dont think Paul Allen has UNLIMITED money....

Just think, Oden will get his if he performs, i want them to keep batum, webs, bayless (if hes good), maybe rudy, etc.

All those players make nothing right now, you cant have three max players and three other players that make 10mil+, too much money in the end, too much luxury tax, just my opinion

I dont think its the time to be fiscally irresponsible

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

That's more than I thought he would get, but since he's my favorite Blazer, I'm not complaining.

Gratz to LA and management. FINALLY.

fair enough.. I was just curious to others thought process on this.

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

This deserves a .

Now I wonder what LMA is going to buy for his next house, it better be HUGE.

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

Terrific news! Hopefully the team can focus now.

Because the cap is going DOWN, and the escalating contracts of Roy and now Aldridge means the payroll is shooting back UP, which means.....

paying this amount of money to Aldridge (ie, 13 to 15mil per instead of 10 or 11mil per) will pretty likely cost us a decent role player down the road.

In other words, though it won't be explicit in the connection to the big contracts, the team will swap one of our decent players who has a market rate of, say, $7mil per, for a lesser player who they can get for $3 or $4mil per.

Or, they will pass on signing a nice player who is going for the full MLE, and instead sign some vet who well accept a partial MLE deal.

I like LaMarcus, but I am not all that happy with this deal.

David West who is:

An All-Star, something LaMarcus is not.
And who signed his contract under the old economic climate where everyone in the NBA assumed the cap would keep going up every year

Signed a 5 year, $45mil deal. Yep, less than $10mil per.

LMA > David West

There would be no way we'd be under the cap...no matter how much money we invested in Aldridge. Roy, Oden, & Aldridge would basically take up the entire cap anyhow. That's why everybody was freaking out about Raef's contract not getting traded, and the lack of FA signings this last summer because everybody knows that the summer of '09 would be the final time we'd be under the cap as long as we are contending.

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

LMA was an 18/8 PF last year.

What would he put up in NY or even Golden State?

Nate's system and pace make Jeff Van Gundy's system look like D'Antoni's.

Re: ALDRIDGE SIGNED!

Depending on the cap next year (and the actual values) this might be a max contract.

The league put out two projected cap numbers for 2010 (call them High and Low). High is 53.3M, which allows (using the 23.04% BRI max number) a max starting salary of 12.28M, with max 10.5% raises, for a total of 5/72.9M. Low Cap is 50.5M, which allows a max starting salary to be 11.63M, with 10.5% raises for a total of 5/69.7M.

Basically, LMA just got the max.

If the Blazers didn't give him that somebody else would have. I'd put money on that.
