"I would like to re-sign here," he says. "If they want to talk about it, I would talk about it. They haven't yet, but I'm looking forward to the chance to do that."

If Olshey is prepared to make that happen, he's not revealing it to the media.

"When the appropriate time comes, which is not now, that is a conversation that will happen between (owner) Paul Allen, myself, LaMarcus and his agent (Arn Tellum)," Olshey says. "It's not a conversation that's going to play out in the media in January."

I would assume any conversation would start with a max extension. The combination of play, durability, and need pretty much warrants it. Would they be able to offer Damian a max extension off his rookie contract if they sign Aldridge to a max extension in the offseason?

I know this isn't likely to happen but would sure love to get Aldrdige for less then max and 1 year less then full length contract. Production naturally drops for guys in their early to mid 30's.

With all that said I want him to stay badly so I wouldn't try to disrespect him. Don't think he is a max player in the NBA but I only think there are 4-5 of those players period so many guys get max who I think shouldn't.

Re: Aldridge would resign

If 23/11 in 37mpg isn't worth a max deal, what is?

Re: Aldridge would resign

He's resigning? Who does he think he is? Barry Sanders?

He's resigning from basketball so he can begin a career in dentistry... wait that was Oden.

Why wouldn't Lillard get a max deal? Aldridge getting one doesn't impact what the Blazers can offer Lillard. Luxury tax may be an issue, but that's for Paul Allen to decide.

LA will get maxed out. The only reason why the team isn't talking about it is because they can't sign him until after the season.

Both LA and Dame will get maxed.

My bad, I was thinking of the designated 5 year extension, but that only applies to players coming off their rookie contract.

Re: Aldridge would resign

I think these are even better quotes to say he wants to stay.

"I've been here a long time now," he says earnestly. "I'm coming up on some (franchise career individual statistical) records. I never used to pay attention to those things, but I've been watching it more this year. I'm the No. 4 scorer now. That's cool. To leave a legacy with one team and win a championship here and to be here my whole career, that would be great."

This team is good," he says. "We can get better. This summer, we can reassess what we have and add things we need. If not this year, in the next couple of years, this team can win a championship."

Re: Aldridge would resign

That is actually a really, really well done article.

Re: Aldridge would resign

I hope to see #12 retired in the rafters. If Aldridge stays here his whole career it's not inconceivable for him to be the #2 blazer of all time. #1 if we win a ring

hoop fam

Re: Aldridge would resign

As I said this summer, if he'd sign a 4-yr max extension I'd sign him yesterday. LMA doesn't have the type of game that's going to degrade much in the next 5 years or so.

As for Lillard, they actually can't offer it to him until October before his 4th year. That's 20 months from now.

If it's an extension can't he only be extended for three extra years?

Re: Aldridge would resign

actually, this summer it was only 2 "extra" years. It's basically 4 years maximum, minus any seasons left on your contract.

So starting this summer, he could've extended his contract from ending in June of 2015 to June of 2017. On July 10 this coming summer, he can extend it out to June of 2018 if he/mgmt want.

Re: Aldridge would resign

He will last like Dirk, so no worries about his age, I suspect he still has 8 years at his current level or better.

Re: Aldridge would resign

Yeah we'll wait until the summer to talk about any extensions because they can be for an extra year then.

Re: Aldridge would resign

An LMA extension isn't very interesting because we'll just offer him the max.

It will be interesting what we do with Lopez and Wes. Do we give them extensions? The way they're playing they'll be in line for $10+ million a year and that's when luxury tax becomes an issue.

It will be harder to trade LMA if he has a max contract.

Also I fixed the thread title.

yeah, it sucked for Melo, Williams, Joe Johnson, CP3, etc. :)

I completely agree here! LaMarcus has character that's rare to find in a superstar! I think he'll end up a career Blazer and be considered the greatest to play in Portland ever..give him whatever it takes because he's the new Tim Duncan of the NBA and he's a Blazer!

I love LMA's candor. He's a very smart guy, and knows how to lead.

You lost me. What was the possible dig at Roy by olshey?

The way his contract renegotiation happened was very public and in the media. I suppose his dig would be more at the media for sucking and Pritchard for being a fool and not telling the media to die in a fire.

A nice refreshing non agenda driven article.

I don't remember Roy talking about his contract a year and a half before it ended, and during January, no less. Huh?

I agree with Olshey. Keep these discussions in-house and behind closed doors. I was furious at KP for not giving Roy the MAX right away and it played out everywhere in the media. Well, looking back, we all know why KP was so hesitant to offer the deal. As fans we like to think we know everything about every situation regarding our team, but the truth is, there's a lot of untold information. Hopefully we can bring back LA for a long time, but I'll let Neil and Paul decide the terms of the agreement.
