Alex Kennedy: Portland looking to accumulate picks, save money

Maybe we could send Aminu to Washington for their 1st, they could trade Jason Smith and a small contract to Brooklyn and we could give them Meyers and Vonleh.

Washington was one team I had in mind for Aminu. San Antonio? Chicago? Grizzlies? Or how about Dallas, they loved him while he was there and Cuban will always put playoffs above development.

You guys that want to dump Leonard for nothing are insane. Yes, he is having a bad year. In that "bad" year he is still hitting 34% from 3pt and 89% free throws. He had one full season with an offensive rating of 117 and defensive rating of 102. If I were another team he would be one of the main guys I would be drooling over hoping Portland is stupid enough to pull an Orlando and dump him for nothing when he costs us half of what Crabbe or Turner do. He is far from the biggest anchor on the team. Besides, I think practicing with Nurkic will be good for him.

Dallas is set at PF, and so is San Antonio. I don't think Chicago is trying to win so don't think he'd go there.

He fits Memphis' style, but they already have Green and Randolph at PF.

Washington has absolutely no bench, so I think they'd be interested in Davis, Aminu, and Crabbe

"U can't be friggin serious"?

$10 million is currently not that big of a deal--as long as it's attached to a legitimate NBA player. Meyers, currently, isn't one. There's literally nothing he does at an NBA level right now, except shoot open threes, and even that he's below average right now. Considering shooting threes is his sole ability--that makes him not an NBA player without major improvements.

His career numbers show he is an above average shooter, who could easily just be in a funk. He's still young. He shows flashes defensively against some elite big men. Hes not worthless (to other teams.) I would be on board with keeping him around and hoping he finds his shot, but I think like Denver with Nurkic, it's best to just go our separate ways.

If we trade Aminu, then you can pretty much say goodbye to whatever little Defense we have left.

Very little....sad. Now Aminu has a strained knee and is probably out till after the All-Star break. Bring on Layman!

they could probably trade meyers for a 2nd rd pick in 2028

Top-55 protected.

I think OKC would like him but what do they have?

Indiana could be a darkhorse team to trade for Crabbe. Ellis has been bad and is a below 30% 3pt shooter, and they already have ball dominant players in Teague and George.

Any chance they'd give up a 1st?

EDIT: They also need a backup PF so they could be interested in Ed Davis.

that's what the guy says, but that doesn't make it rtrue. Olshey himself said it is nice to have the picks in a good draft to use or to trade.

I wish Olshey could get Otto Porter out of that and a pick too... but wish in one hand and shit in the other and see what you get first

I was telling the guys at work the same thing this morning. Olshey is still looking for trades, and almost everyone is on the block.

Yeah, I think whether it's now or in the summer, he's about to blow this team up. No one is safe outside of dame, CJ and Nurkic.

The minute he traded Plumlee I figured this team as currently constructed was finished. Can mention the cap all you want, but they could've kept Plumlee if they really wanted to. He was our glue. Doesn't matter so much if they're planning to blow it up though.

If they want these guys to have value, start running plays for guys OTHER than Dame/CJ. Get some of these guys more shots and get them into an actual rhythm. It's not like having Dame/CJ take half of the shots is producing good results anyhow. Get Vonleh, Layman, Harkless, Crabbe Leonard 10-15 shots a game and built their stats.

At the very least we could trade Aminu for expiring contracts (Morrow, Huestis, Christon) and the right to swap CLEs 1st (Currently 27th) for their 1st (Currently 19th).

Id prefer to trade Aminu to WAS for their 24th pick, then trade Davis to IND for Allen and the right to SWAP CLEs 1st (27th) with theirs (Currently 18th).

That would give us the 10th, 18th, 19th, and 22nd picks.

Yeah, just too bad we overpaid so many guys but it is what it is. At least we have 3 picks in a good draft, and if the tank goes well we could have a 4-8 pick. The Nurk trade was a good start

He could be in a funk and his career numbers are, indeed, higher. The problem is that he's trending downwards since his supposed breakout season. That's only a two season decline, granted, but it's certainly not the right direction for optimism over his growth curve.

He's currently worthless on the court. That doesn't mean he's completely worthless as a future asset, but he'd have to improve a lot to reach "NBA-caliber." And even more to become a useful NBA player. I'm not sure a lot of teams will spend $10M on the current Leonard in the hopes he makes those jumps.

You could probably package Harkless, 10, 18, and 22 to trade up to 3 to grab Josh Jackson.

with Leonard its probably just better to keep him at his shit value right now than deal him to dump him.
Let him keep shooting threes, if he makes a couple for a few games we nickname him Stretch Curry (what he and Stotts seem to see him as) and then sucker someone, anyone any way we can.

LOL!!! He's having a bad career!

He's 7 feet tall.

And you can't teach that.

Yeah, he's a pretty big guy. You can find 7 footers in nearly any neighborhood in America and they probably won't cost $10M a year! I assume the basketball skills matter, though.
