All In For Ben Simmons

Lot of arguments here. I guess I'm the only Blazer fan who never followed Ben Simmons. I know nothing about his career, other than headlines of the last couple of years. What I'm trying to say is, WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT BEN SIMMONS.

As a well-known car mechanic on this board would say, "Let me tell you something about Ben Simmons. FUCK Ben Simmons."
His bloated contract expires next summer. The Nets might sign him to another fatty. Or trade him at the deadline. If their's 18m in salary floating on the market, there might be picks & scrubs involved. Opportunities for Cronin

Ben Simmons only matters to Portland because he is why we should ignore the data on drafting higher.

You see, there is no guarantee that you'll get Michael Jordan when you draft higher, so we should avoid it like the plague. Far better to take our chances in the middle of the first round.

Think of all the play-in failures and first round flame outs we'll miss out on if we trade Simons and Grant for draft capital get 2 or 3 more top 5 picks...

I'll be honest, after this next year I don't think I could handle 2-3 more years of tanking. Im hoping/thinking after 24-25 we should have a good mix and be ready to shoot for the playoffs, which is fun basketball. Like the Fever, they get a super star and now make the playoffs, rather than tank again for a top pick.

It's been 10 years since the fever made the WNBA offs, 9 years without being over 500. They now are selling out and excited about being part of playoff basketball, the very thing that makes the NBA & WNBA FANtastic.

Sure, if we got a superstar that would definitely speed things up.

After this next season we'd only have 1 or 2 more seasons in my scenario. And it would only be that long because of this historically bad draft this year. If the young guys can win that much I'm fine with making the playoffs sooner.

But Scoot or Sharpe will need to pop in that timeframe and we'll likely need a better coach, IMO. If Clingan turns into a Star you can probably knock another year off.

Of course, all of this assumes we're doing an average job drafting and not "missing" every draft.

It's one thing If the Blazers get the number one pick and end up with Cooper Flagg but if they just end up with Ace or Hugo then we are looking at again another tank year. Eventually you have to make decisions to pay these lotto picks or ship them out for whatever you can get. This is year three for Sharpe. Eventually you have to pay him to keep him. Same thing goes for Scoot after this year. You can't tank forever or they leave for greener pastures or more money. How much money are they going to sink into keeping Clingan who is considered a good backup plan but most likely will not be much better than that.

If we don't know our direction by the time we have to pay Clingan then it's time for new management and scouting department probably. I'm pretty sure we can pay more than anybody else to keep these guys for like 7 or 9 years.

If they haven't popped enough for us to make the playoffs in that time then it's time to let them go.

Just like it's time to move off of Ant. He's not good enough and doesn't make sense here. Grant also isn't good enough to get us where we need to go but he's good enough to be valuable to a contending team.

That's their maximum value. We should be taking advantage of that.

But it needs scenarios you're still far more likely to hit higher in the draft than lower in the draft. And your young guys are far more likely to develop faster if they don't have guys like Ant or Grant as focal points.

Forgot I bet under on Nurk scoring 12.0ppg too.... Guess I need to check how change of teams works

Someone is going to get a cheap defender off the bench.
Lakers, Clippers, Phoenix, Warriors?
Phoenix would be funny with him joining Durant again. The Clippers would be odd too as he got traded for Harden.

If he and Durant got along he would be perfect for them. Hell, he could start there and fill a huge need. As a point forward they could start two shooting guards next to him. He would never need to shoot with Beal, Booker, and Durant on the floor.

He will be playing for his next contract

I bet this would have been a fun thread to go back through.

Funny looking at page1 where people were salavating over Skal Labisse. Was supposed to be a more aggresive LMA. He ended up being a dissapointment and we actually had him on our roster for awhile before he dropped out of the league.

Simmons is now available for the minimum at age 28.

I mean I'm all about trying to get a good lottery pick here or there, but its amazing how many top lottery picks are never difference makers. Even ones that make allstar games early in their careers often become irrelevant. Simmons is far from the only case.

I don't know why any team would want him, he doesn't help.
