The funny thing to me though, is that we have a player with an insane ceiling in Sharpe.

Miller seems like a plug-n-play guy who can step in immediately and contribute. His shooting is a skill that translates immediately. If he bulks up a bit, he would be a great pick-n-roll guy with Dame or Sharpe.

The concern for me is his legal situation.

Agreed yes the element that makes it very hard for me to emphatically say if the Blazers should or shouldn't pick Miller is the legal situation. I suspect its mostly the risk of a civil case. I'm pretty comfortable the Blazers will do their due diligence here and pass if they aren't comfortable, so I don't worry the Blazers will make that wrong choice. I just suspect we'll never have enough details publicly known to make that judgement so I'll have to trust whatever direction the team takes.

there may not be much of any legal case with Miller. And he may be so peripheral to the situation to not have much civil exposure; although he'll soon have the kind of deep pockets civil litigants and attorney's target

I think what could happen if teams gauge Miller on par with another player, they may take the other player to just avoid potential PR headaches. If they gauge Miller's talent well about everybody else they'll take Miller and have a Tylenol wholesaler on speed dial

I'd say if Miller didn't have the legal issue and hadn't shit the bed, shooting-wise, in March Madness he'd be the clear-cut #2. I will say I'm uncomfotable with how low his release seems to be on a lot of his shots. That's probably correctable though

If you're that high in the draft, you gotta look for the high ceilings. Even with Sharpe, you need more high ceiling guys.

If you watch his tape in HS, his release point is higher on his mid-range jumper, so he has shown the ability to have a higher release point.

Maybe also why his midrange in HS was phenomenal but sucked in college.

I wouldn't change his release. We seem to discuss that every year about someone. I know we did with Dame.

Miller's has a quick release and great range....don't mess with it. If a few get blocked so be it. Most of the time the defender is either not close enough to make a play or too scared to be in his "landing space"

And it's not like we will be facing Robert Williams every game.

Lol yes agreed - its not a small deal to change a 20 year olds shot, its like saying how about we change somebodies golf swing when they're in the PGA tour.

I think a bunch of posters here would talk about changing Steph Curry release because he doesn't set it up properly and its to low or who knows what.

"Miller's camp says it is hoping he can do enough on his June 10 visit in Charlotte to convince the Hornets to give him assurances they'll pick him at this spot, something that might hinge more on how he performs in his interview than his workout. He sat down with 12 teams at the draft combine in Chicago, but arrived holding a legal brief written by his attorneys informing teams that he would not be able to comment on specific details regarding his involvement in the lead-up to the fatal shooting of Jamea Jonae Harris. It's the biggest factor holding him back from being the easy choice at No. 2, as many expect to be the case in Charlotte. Miller's fit with Charlotte's roster looks ideal, and he is considered the front-runner here if he can do enough to alleviate off-court concerns."

If Scoot drops...... I just don't know what to do.

For the players, what are the incentives of being a 2nd pick instead of 3rd other than bragging rights? I'm talking difference in $$

* last season the #2 signed for 20.3M over the first two guaranteed seasons; and 24.6M over the next 2 seasons. So, about 45M over the 4 year rookie scale

* the #3 pick signed for 18.2M over the first two guaranteed seasons, and 22.1 over the next two seasons. so, about 40.3M over the 4 year rookie scale

that was last season, the projection for next season is a 9-10% increase in the cap. Same increase applied to rookie scale

* so next season the difference between #2 and #3 would be around 2.3M over the first 2 seasons, and about 5.5M over the 4 year rookie scale. That's pretty significant

Thank our lucky stars Charlotte overdrafted Miller and pick Scoot.

Start a bidding war for him and if we get no deals, keep Scoot and move Ant.

Might upset some, but we probably need to do our due diligence and gauge offers for Dame as well. If Ant and Scoot are getting low-ball offers, but Dame could fetch a massive haul, can't really ask for a better strategic opportunity to transition to a new era.

Going into training camp with all 3 would be shocking but I'd personally love to see it, would be more entertaining than probably any season since LaMarcus.

Hope he absolutely shits the bed and falls into our lap, would be great

Is this new meetings or the story a week ago we've already heard many times?

I think it's fleshing out the same story, Givony initiall said Miller talked to Portland and Charlotte. Not it's that he talked to 12 teams and used the same document as cover

For those that don't want Miller, why?

His legal troubles?
His game?
His ceiling?

I'm curious to hear from the people who are out on him.
It’s the gun situation for me. Bad decision making doesn’t usually just fix itself.

Is it clear he even knew a gun was in the car ? I haven't heard any confirmed detail that shows me he had bad decision making.

Also I'd need to know some of his history, that investigators could look into. If he never had any bad decision making in the last 5+ years and background that checks out as an upstanding individual its very likely to be a freak isolated tragic incident. Sort of like Chauncey rape incident that he never had another issue with 25 years later. But if Miller has a bunch of Ja Morant incidents waving guns around then yeah its a hard pass.

Jesus.

Decent defense and 3 point shooting not only give him a high floor, but when combined with the fact that he's 20, it makes him more likely to be "NBA Ready" than other prospects.

There's a world where we plug him into the starting 3, and he remains there indefinitely (like Dame's rookie year).
