Dear Portland,

Your traffic sucks. WTF? And. I room to expand or improve upon the existing infrastructure. It's only going to get worse.

I've been through town 4 times in the past 8 days - I really cannot believe how shitty it's gotten, and it can be extremely shitty at any time of day. When the apocalypse happens, or some sort of serious disaster, all you MF'ers living on top of each other will struggle to survive in a perilous battle.

Dear Suburbia,

I also noticed that traffic became really shitty 4 times in the past 8 days. I blame you. Stop coming to town and things will be better for both of us.

Traffic always sucks in Portland. I just had the misfortune of having to travel through it several times recently.

And I don't live in suburbia. I live in a rural area.

I was just driving thru Manhattan this morning on my way to the airport. Our traffic is pretty god damn amazing compared to theirs!

This is FINALLY breaking ground this week:

Because of the changes in glass, the restored Portland Building will look noticeably different from outside. Yet it's another change to the exterior that may represent the biggest change of all: the painted concrete façade will be covered with a new metal cladding that's part of a new rainscreen system. The late Michael Graves's firm has pledged its support for the change, and outside façade consultants have affirmed the soundness of the approach. But the move will so alter the appearance of the architecture that there is talk that the Portland Building will lose its National Register listing.

For those who aren't aware - this building is getting gutted to the studs - exactly like the Edith Greene federal building.

This will make a huge difference in appearance. Going from stucco/concrete, where there is texture and warping, to smooth painted aluminum is going to transform this building - for the better. The glass being used will go from the 1980s mirrored glass to glass similar to what was used on the Ladd Tower.

Couldn't hardly make it worse. It's the civic equivalent of this:

Took me 2 hours... 2 HOURS to drive from Catlin Gabel to my home in the Moreland area at around 3:30. Traffic is becoming an unforgiving biotch in this city.

I dig it. Burnside is becoming its own district.

I wish I could agree with you, but I think those are the "Portland Buildings" of 2017. Maybe I'm just an old fuddy-duddy, architecturally speaking.

All I wanna know is... What can we do to our highway/interstate system to improve traffic? Widening? Re-routing? Additions? What would it take?

Stop driving.

Portland likes to go for the shiny pretty objects, instead of working on alleviating traffic or housing.

I thank god every day I come home from work that I A: set my own hours and B: don't drive (usually) during rush hour, or at least on streets impacted by rush hour.

I think after 17 years here in PDX I count as an old timer, and so I can officially say that I think they are ruining this once-great city/town with all of this building.

Personally, I blame Portlandia. For real. F Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein.

You're just seeing the tip of the iceberg - the 2035 comprehensive plan:

Carrie Brownstein came to my house not long ago to scope it out for the show. I wasn't here but my father in law said she was really nice.
