The 81 Series had a profound impact on me. I watched the Series with my GrandPa, and rode my motorcycle from L.A. to Goodland, KS. to see him. Game 7, was the last thing He ever saw on TV. I had to leave the next morning to head back to work, (in a foot of snow, which came unexpectedly overnight, ever had to ride a motorcycle in a foot of snow, for 500 miles, before the roads, and storm cleared, ANYONE?)
Later that day after I flew on my Harley, GrandPa, was taken to the Hospital, we already knew he was biding his time with terminal cancer racked throughout his abdomen, and he passed only 24 hours later.
It was that great man, who inspired me as a kid, to become the Yankee Fan-atic I am today. Ol' Grandpa was a huge Bambino, Iron Horse, Yankee Clipper, as well as The Mick, Ford, Martin, Allie Reynolds, Herb Pennock et al fan. He saw the Barnstorming Tour of the Larrupin Lous and Gallupin Galoots, and even gave me a Denver, and Kansas City paper, yellow and old of the event. Which I have to this day, one of my most prized possession, even as much as my Gamer Mantle Club, autographed as well.
RIP great Yankees, and Yankee Fans....!!! This Bud, I mean Stout Guiness is for you.
