This sounds like it has no legs but Ken Berger mentioned this in his blog today:

* Word is that Portland is extremely active in its attempts to trade up from No. 24 to an area from 8-14, where the Blazers are confident they could land a point guard. Portland hosted North Carolina's Ty Lawson for a workout Monday. A person familiar with the situation said the Blazers explored a trade involving the Suns' No. 14 pick. That deal also would've involved Stoudemire, a scenario that would've presented billionaire Paul Allen with three max players to pay over the next few years -- Stoudemire, Brandon Roy, and LaMarcus Aldridge. Those are big-ticket items, even for Allen.

Good God, can the draft just be over already? Eventually every possible trade scenario imaginable will have been floated out there by Thursday and somebody is going to end up being right just by using the shotgun approach.

I'm pretty sure if we traded for Stoudemire, Aldridge would be headed to Phoenix.

YUCK! In that scenario we somehow keep Aldridge and Roy. What did we give up Oden and most of our bench? I don't think Aldridge and Amare would be a good pairing together.

It's getting rumourrific in here.

No shit. I need it to be Thursday quick.

These rumors are crazy. As presented, they don't make sense, and I don't understand how people can throw them out there with any conscious.

Sure, there could be a 3-way trade were we get #14 and Stoudemire goes elsewhere. Even though that is highly unlikely, you would think the "source" that is giving out this information would know there is a third team involved. If that were the case, then the person putting this rumor out there should say, "Portland had/is exploring a THREE WAY trade that would send the 14th pick to Portland and Amare to another team."

The Amare to Portland makes no sense. I'd be shocked if KP would trade Aldridge for Amare at this point, straight up.

It even says Ty Lawson worked out on Monday. We already know that is wrong because he works out tomorrow.

I disagree. I think that Lamarcus for the most part, would probably make a better SF than many of our small forwards we have now, if pushed into the spot.

LMA is more of a center than a SF. I'm not a fan of moving one of your top 2 players out of his natural position to allow someone else to fit.

Maybe, but maybe it all works out. Ralph Sampson played SF and he was 7'3" tall, and he kicked ass. Not just played well. He kicked ass until he knees gave out.

Have you seen LMA dribble the ball? I've seen 5th graders who do a better job at keeping their head up while they dribble.

Why do you have to dribble when a 6'11" guy with a 7'4" wingspan can just rise up and shoot over a shorter player?

LOL, Ralph Sampson didn't play SF.

Yes, he played SF, PF and Center. Occationally he played point guard.

Had he not gotten hurt, we would all be talking about KG as "The Next Ralph Sampson". The dude was amazing.

I think this rumour is silly and almost certainly untrue. The only way it might make any sense is if Pritchard is trying to work a three-way deal in which he sends Amare (or, far less likely IMO, Aldridge) elsewhere for a high-level point guard.

Or to Washington as part of a Butler deal... :)

Yeah, potentially for a high-level small forward, but I think A. Portland is better positioned for the future (including next season) at small forward than at point guard and B. small forwards are easier to find than big men or point guards.

For those reasons, I think if Pritchard landed an elite big like Amare, he'd be looking to swing him for an elite or very good point guard.

But if he did get Amare without giving up any of the big three and ended up parlaying him into Butler, I wouldn't be complaining. ;)
