I learned about ammonites last summer on vacation in Canada. Visited the ammonite mine in Banff which is the only place they are found in quantity so far.

Well since the eastern-pacific Plate is continually sub ducting under North America, I suppose that part of Oregon was the sea then.
It looks as if that is probably is so.
