Disabled patrons of Bristol Farms Market in Playa del Rey recently encountered inadequate parking availability thanks to the alleged audacity of L.A. Lakers center Andrew Bynum.
Caught on camera by an LA Parking Enforcement official, Bynum is shown parking his black Bimmer in two marked handicapped parking spaces, according to NBC4. Photographs expose the pro athlete loading groceries into his car and driving away, finally opening both spots for the appropriate customers.
Perhaps that right knee was plaguing him, or maybe fame and fortune have gone to his head, swallowing any sense of common decency.
Regardless, the Lakers center is now the center of a parking violation investigation.
When questioned by NBC4, Byum reportedly slammed his car door and drove away without comment.
With an annual salary topping $14 million, the $353 ticket, should he be cited, certainly won't break Bynum's wallet. But it is now apparent that the 23-year-old basketball star requires a boost in maturity along with an image revamp.
“It’s a terrible image and perception when something like this happens,” said DMV Deputy Chief Vito Scattaglia, after NBC4 showed him the pictures.
Apparently this scenario is becoming progressively common in L.A., as numerous businesspeople have been caught on videotape using disabled placards and spots.
“There is an increase in the violations we’re encountering, and the citations we’re issuing,” Scattaglia said.
Parking in the sprawl can undoubtedly cause headache, but let's keep it classy, L.A. If without proper placard or license plate, park in designated spots and walk those extra steps. This should be especially effortless if you're an early-twenties NBA star.

What annoys me isn't the story's handicap angle, it's that he took two spots, to avoid a scratch...I don't even like people who take two regular spots for their expensive car.

Although I do notice that handicapped parking places are always empty and wasted at certain establishments...maybe just at those locations, the number could be decreased...the government is too important to care and they don't have the time. One size fits all.

They need to raise the minimum age for the draft to 40. The quality of play will go down, but there will be fewer parking violations.

No way, not again. Melvin Laird cancelled it the month I would have gone.

Heh. I haven't heard Melvin Laird's name for years. I don't notice the passage of time so much, but something from the past coming up unexpectedly like this really takes me back to those days.

But if the minimum draft age is 40 then I think we'd be too old. So no worries.

Its so true though, I see so many wasted handicapped parking places unused at Fred Meyer or Target. I swear they paint 4 or 5 in front of a store entrance. Its not necessary. I think two per entrance is fine unless its a huge business by major traffic roads or on ramps towards a freeway.

yeah, and I used to take my paralyzed grandmother to the store/mall/whatever when I was in high school/college and all the handicapped spots were taken so I had to leave her in the entrance of the store while I looked around for parking. you can come up with any casual observation. the bottom line is, if there are handicapped spots, don't park there unless you're handicapped or transporting someone who is. people are such assholes like this. same kind of fucks that drive in carpool lanes with only one person.

and this particular grocery has a big parking lot, often with many empty spaces. its a more upscale grocery so it doesn't get so crowded and like 10 feet away there are rows of empty spaces. bynum is just being a dick here.

Last night, for the first time ever, Andrew Bynum was in my dream.

I was in Arco Arena for a Kings / Laker game and was sitting courtside well before gametime. Don't ask me why it is a Kings game. No fans in the seats yet. Only a handful of players and coaches were out shooting or working on moves. Bynum was with a coach working on post-up moves. He was being very agressive bumping the shit out of the coach and going hard on his moves and finishes.

Bynum finishes a move with a thunderous dunk, and I say out loud, "damn". Bynum hears me because it is pretty quiet, turns and looks and smiles. He starts strolling over and while he does he is whopping and hollering, waving his arms around and saying things like, "Can't wait for gametime", "Let's go", "Woooooo!!!", etc.

He gets to where I am sitting puts his hand up and high fives me, puts his hand on my shoulder and shakes me and says, "I am so fucking pumped. I am gonna tear this shit up tonight. I am gonna post those motherfuckers up and they can't stop me. Who they got? Don't care. Watch me tonight, its gonna be fucking epic."

I am a little stunned (and confused) by all this. Why did he high five me and shake me by the shoulder and all that?

He turns and is walking away. I look down and see I am wearing a Lakers t-shirt. Nooooooooooooo.

Wasn't a dream. Was a nightmare.
