ANTHONY BLACK!!! He's last draft's Stephon Castle! Only taller and with awesome hair.

Well he is can definitely a willing defender with good instincts......despite his poor wing span. (Again it is shorter than both Ant and Scoot) so his height is not that big of a advantage. I think he is a decent enough 3 pt shooter to keep the defense honest.

But is he a good PG? Good handles? I have no idea but if he is then he might be a good option as part of the deal. Assuming we like who is available at 18. He is only 20 and he does have a good vertical.

One possibility I had not considered is that the Magic might sign-and-trade Markelle Fultz?

Don't know if I'd go for that. Fultz is a lot of the things that Black is but he's shorter and older. But then, I've long had a jones for a big PG who can't shoot drafted #1 by Philadelphia...

I too am passing on Black. Trading Ant to Orlando may make sense for Orlando but I don’t see it for Portland.

Why trade Ant to NY Knicks? Well, the Knicks could use a 2 guard that can score for starters. Bojan Bogdanović has one year remaining, so we can take him, flip him or move him at the deadline for draft capital. And the Knicks have all of their own #1 picks for like the next six years. So let’s get an unprotected 1st in 2026 or 2027.

Why trade Ant (along with Thybulle or Williams) to Brooklyn Nets? We take Simmons off Brooklyn’s hands and in return, they give us the 2025 PHX unprotected #1 pick and the worst of their three #1 unprotected picks in 2029 (Own / Dallas / PHX); or at least a pick swap in 2029. This gets us some very decent draft capital in return for Ant and Thybulle and a flyer of sorts on Simmons for a year.

So these are my reasons for including the Knicks and Nets

Nets need incoming picks. They bloarfed all their picks, and are trying to rebuild with other teams picks.

Brooklyn would easily take Anfernee and some Blazers secondary picks for Ben. Then we can wait for Simmons to hopefully someday, maybe, perhaps be healthy enough to help Portland win games.

If not... Cronin can tank for a new rookie, while explaining that he doesn't have enough data to calculate any sort of immediate improvements. Because obviously the Blazers have had too many unfortunate injuries.

So... the objection to Black is his lack of a jumper, despite being young, cheap, healthy with a great attitude. So instead you want... Ben Simmons?

The Knicks when healthy start Brunson, Hart, OG, Randle, and Hartenstein.
Ant and Brunson are not an ideal backcourt duo. Plus they have DiVincenzo and MacBride who both shot over 40 from deep.

Why would they acquire Ant when they need to pay both OG and Hartenstein this summer?

The Nets could be an option but I think Scoot and Simmons are a bad match. You need to surround both with shooters IMO.
Playing them together does not make sense to me. Simmons actually would be a better fit next to Simons and Sharpe.....if Ben actually played more than 15 games.

According to the poll, 8 people have fallen in love with Simons and hold him untouchable.

No. 8 people have fallen out of love with Cronin and hold him responsible (for his inability to do what is needed)

It's a prediction exercise. Simply put, many do not believe Cronin will trade Ant. Personally I opted for Orlando because I would like to see him moved and they can absorb his salary and he is from there. My second option would be not traded at all.

I think Olshey wouldn't've traded Ant, but I don't think Cronin has any particular loyalty. His only barrier is that the offers we're likely to get for him are going to be so low that he'd get crucified if he accepted them.

Moreso than keeping Ant around to inhibit Scoot/Sharpe's growth?

One left-field destination for Anfernee might be Miami. As we discussed last year, they already have a taller, whiter Anfernee but they believe in their development system and might think they can incorporate him AND play defense. Of course, as we said last year, they don't really have any assets (and they're not giving up Jaques). But there aren't many teams that would even be interested in Anfernee, but they might be one.

The fact that he can shoot 3’s at near 40% and that we’ve seen how its been a factor in the finals, he’ll be tradable, easily.

On this list, I think the Spurs and the Magic make the most sense. Fits a spot of need for both. Think the swap ideas have been beaten to death.
Something along thee lines:

with OKC maybe needing to add.

Isn't he redundant with Rozier there?

I am OK with trading Ant for a player/position of need. I can understand trading him if we needed cap space help. I can see trading him if he doesn't want to come off the bench. (Although there has been no indication that he would be upset with that) But this whole inhibiting the growth of Scoot /Sharpe reasoning has never seemed logical to me.

If Sharpe plays well he will continue to get huge minutes. He has the most well rounded skills on the team. The Blazers are dependent on him in order to succeed. His 33 minuets per game are not going to go down. He was playing close to 40 minutes before he got hurt.

As for Scoot, he was not ready last year but got big minutes regardless. I don't think playing him 25 minutes instead of 35 minutes is all that bad until he proves he deserves more. Let him ease in to it. 25 minutes/game this next year when he is still only 20 is not going to hinder his development. If he improves this summer, and through out the season, than great he will get more minutes.

I’m a past season ticket holder of the Knicks and follow them closely. Watching the playoffs was miserable as the only (and quite predictable) scorer was Brunson. Hart is not a “scorer” and the rest of that bunch didn’t step up. Ant would be a perfect fit next to Brunson (offensively but not defensively) and NY has plenty of picks. We’d have to take back a contract or two in any case. Personally, I would take Randle and bolster our front court while we give Scoot and Sharpe a year to grow together.

When trading Ant and Thybulle to the Nets for Simmons…I have delusions that Simmons will ever play; this would be a trade in order to obtain draft capital from the Nets for doing them the favor of taking Simmons off their hands. I would try my very best to turn right around and flip him to any taker and pick up additional draft capital and get him off our books - but I have no fantasies about playing Simmons.

The team (and coach) that would covet Ant more than any other, in my opinion, would be the Spurs and Pops. Ant is coachable and boy could he spread the court for Wemby. I think Ant can land us the 8th pick - not so certain about landing the 4th - and this trade doesn’t really require a draft night move as it could certainly happen over the Summer. I don’t recall seeing so many “draft pick for player” trades on draft night as trades are mostly about trading and swapping picks.

I agree about SA. Look what Pop did with Patty Mills. But 4 will get them Castle and 8 probably will get them Knecht. So that will make it tough in my mind.

As for the Knicks, you really think Ant is a Thibs kind of guy? I agree Hart is not a shooter, and I agree the other guys did not show up, but for the most part wasn't that because they were sitting in street close. At least that was the narrative the media was leading with. I can see them trading Randle though as I don't think he is a Thibs kind of guy either.
