Reasons NO would trade CP3

1) Collison
2) They want to sell team
3) Cut Salary

POR - NO Trade

Miller, Pryz, and Rudy (ALL EXPIRING CONTRACTS) For Chris Paul

Pipe Dream? Maybe, but closer now than ever....

:evilwait:

Shinn has sold the team.

The new owner is local, wants to improve attendance. Not interested in trading their most popular player.

Also they would want talent back for CP3. Why trade CP3 to gain cap room when it would be hard to sign a FA that's as good as CP3?

We would have to give Roy for Paul and be tormented by Roy in the playoffs for years, but if Paul, Oden, and Bosh could form a good chemistry, it might not matter. Championships!

Getting Paul without giving up ANY long-term talent in return is a bit more than a pipe dream.

My idea of a pipe dream is trading Aldridge and expirings for Paul and a bad contract. My idea of nice but unlikely is trading Roy and expirings for Paul and a bad contract.

I doubt the new owner is looking to move CP3, if Shinn was still the owner maybe.

Yep lets trade the face of this franchise for CP3...

IS IT POSSIBLE TO TRADE LMA FOR CHRIS BOSH???!!! bosh is almost certainly leaving toronto.

Fine, they can keep CP3, we'll take Collison.

barfo

That's beyond terrible for N.O. If they wanted to save money, taking back just as much salary for Paul doesn't really do it, does it? Here's another trade where they save money. Paul to N.Y. for nothing. That one looks a lot better financially for them.

Bosh can take his pick of whatever under the cap team he likes, but it would benefit him financially to let Toronto work out a sign and trade with the team of his choice ... you really think Bosh would select Portland out of all the places he could play in the NBA? I sure as hell don't.

IMO, if there's any shot of getting CP3 it's Miller, LMA and Przy (with Euro goodies, draft picks and/or Rudy) for Paul and Okafor. Cuts down their amount of long-term debt, and a front line of West and LMA is still pretty decent with Miller starting until Collison's ready in 2011-12. They're getting rid of 25M of long-term debt a year for the next 5 years, and still have a) a competitive team and b) young talent locked up long-term.

In order for it to be another run, doesn't one run at him have to end? The fans on this board have pretty much been "making a run at Paul" since we drafted Webster.:devilwink:

Trade for Paul.

PG: Paul/Miller
SG: Roy/Bayless/Fernandez
SF: Batum/Webster
PF: Aldridge/Camby
C: Oden/Camby/Przybilla

Wait, did I miss a step? Well, no matter...that's a nice lineup!

Besides the part where we traded last years 2nd round draft picks for CP3?

Yes, you left out Bosh in the PF category. Other than that it's good.

Sounds good, BFW. Make the deal.

@SpearsNBAYahoo Stern said "it's not a given at all" that Chouest finds an agreement to buy Hornets and that process "taking a long time."

Looks like its not a given that the team is sold

One things for sure, the sale will NOT go through if they trade Paul. Now Collison I could see. He's really who people should be targeting.

He's too good to be a draft pick and he is one of the many guys I wanted us to draft and we didn't. Argh, I picked some of the best guards of the past few years and only one of them was really out of our reach.

I think a Paul trade would have to include one of Oden or Roy.

I would probably pull the trigger on either one.

Exactly. Why hasn't this subject been dissected into a million pieces yet?? From what I've seen of him, he'd be a great addition. Smart defensive player who can stay with speedier perimeter players. Ability to penetrate and create. His impact would be felt immediately. Maybe not the greatest shooter, but a more reliable outside threat than Miller. What would it take to get him? Might have to overpay because we're maybe buying on his high end, but worth the gamble I think.

You guys are all crazy. NOH is only sniffing at the possibility at shopping CP is cuz of money. Trading for Roy who is a max guy defeats that purpose, you guys make it seem like they're unhappy with his play. They want to ship out Okafur or Peja to get under the lux tax and the only way to do that is to include CP3.

So any trade they do will involve CP3 and Okafur/Peja while they get expiring contracts and young talent and or draft picks.

I've said this ever since the ZBO trade and why it was stupid to trade it for imaginary cap space. ZBO's 17 million dollar contract expires after this season. For a team looking to shed salaries, that is a fantastic cost-cutting move. And for an owner like George Shinn, he has historically pulled these kind of shenanigans. With ZBO still here, we could have absorbed those bad contracts and would have to offer them less as far as our young talent on cheap contracts.
