Another year of MIXUM

Now that you realize you made a silly post regarding challenging Mixum's thoughts we are done here.

not really. what is the endpoint here, you want MIXUM banned because he won't stop arguing with people?

Justice William Brennan once wrote that "One man's pornography is another man's art." It appears to me that maybe half the posters think he's a troll (pornography) and half like his posting (art). I have no idea why anyone would respond to his threads and posts otherwise.

How do you expect me to judge this kind of thing? Because you say so, or because another poster says not?

On what scale is he making the site less fun for you? On a scale of 1 to 100, maybe 100? If so, where do we set the limit where we ban people for posting unpopular posts? And how do we measure it on that scale of 1 to 100?

Strawman. I didn't ask you to judge it. I just asked you to state explicitly that you won't ban trolls.

If you don't like it, ignore him. its not that hard to do. or you can continue arguing with him.

its not that big of a deal.

Unfortunately, MIXUM's posts take away from the user experience of the board. Many posters don't have the amazing self control as you, and respond to his posts telling him to leave, etc. Those threads then stay on the main page, and draw attention from other posters and real discussions are harder to come by.

When a real discussion does start, MIXUM does a drive-by and kills the discussion because other posters, again, don't have your amazing self control to ignore him, and the discussion gets derailed.

So the options are:
1) Have MIXUM's posting habits change
or
2) Have an entire group of posters' posting habits change.

Which do you think is easier?

Do you see his threads on the main page if you have him on your ignore list?

Looking at more than 2 options.

I don't know. I don't have him on ignore because his posts alone don't bother me. What is annoying is what his posts do to the reasonable discussions that may have been taking place.

what reasonable discussions? there's nothing to discuss really as far as the blazers are concerned. season doesn't start until Oden comes back, end of story?????

in general, I think the basketball discussion on this board is not really that good. don't know why, it just sucks, I don't think its Mixum's fault, but usually I just pop in to game threads or stupid threads.....i think maybe its too fast of a board to have quality discussions maybe.

"No son, Billy the bunny isn't dead. He moved to a nice farm in the mid-west. Now shut up and eat your rabbit stew."

"But dad, I saw you chop off his head and stuff him in the pot!"

"Shut up Mixum, you ungrateful little cur! Glass half full. Rainbows and butterflies. Troll. Troll! TROLL!"

It used to be fairly good... but a lot of posters have turned away from actual substantive discussion to bang their drums and become "personalities". And really, why bother with substantive posts when a meme is so much easier to repeat?

LaMarshmallow, McScribbles, kpee, Blazers to Seattle, learn the game then post, checkmate, BeerBoy's wife, HCP's wife, Roy hates America and doesn't put forth an effort, too much on-ball domination, Bayless has short arms, Oden's a bust, Outlaw sucks, Blake sucks, Andre is moody, Cho talks funny and will never make a trade.

There's more, but really, we could simulate most of the content on the forum by running a script that associates one of these memes with a user, and simply posts pre-written screeds at random, with random posts saying, "Who cares? [my meme text here]" as responses.

Nobody is talking *to* each other; it's more like 100 blogs shuffled together in loosely associated threads. We're talking *at* each other, hitting each other with our respective hammers until everyone else shuts up.

I see now that MIXUM is just another guy with a hammer.

There is a lot of truth to this but, of course, it's just a generalization. It doesn't apply to everyone.

And that's the key. There are quite a few good posters here, people who I consider insightful and interesting. There's just a lot of people who are largely posting on, to steal your concept, a fairly limited script. The signal to noise ratio can be low at times. That's a problem for people who have trouble just filtering away the noise automatically. I, personally, don't have a problem because I'm fairly good at skimming past the noise to the substance. But I think not everyone can do that and finds their time wasted by slogging through the content-less filler.

So am I a bad guy in this whole mess?

Speak for yourself...I'll spell it out for you...He was talking about the posters who think a great injustice has been done by letting him post. I for one enjoy having discourse with him. Just because some people get emotionally unstable while reading his post does not mean I shouldnt be entitled to talk to him on a freakin SPORTS FORUM

You enjoy having intercouse (errrr discourse) with him because your both Laker fans.

Its funny how the posters who's only intention is to rile up the board are apologists for each other. Kinda cute actually.

I've always kinda felt you kept out of the basketball discussion because you aren't that knowledgable and didn't really bring anything to the table.

:ohno:

I mainly come here for the game threads. the rest of the threads are pretty pedestrian though.

I agree and we've lost a few very quality posters recently because of it. Boob-No-More, SodaPopinski and Schilly were a few off the top of my head who I rarely see on here anymore, yet always brought good discussion.

I think the level of conversation goes through spurts of great convo and times of horrible conversation.
