Former Creighton standout Anthony Tolliver 'excited' about fit with Portland Trail Blazers

"I figured I'd have a job, and just wasn't sure where it was going to be," Tolliver, who signed with the Portland Trail Blazers, said during an appearance on "The Bottom Line."

"And now it's just a really good situation to be able to go to, to be able to hopefully play on a team that's going to be a contender."

Tolliver talked about being inducted into the Jays' hall of fame, his fit with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum, the success of his basketball camp and much more. See a transcript of select excerpts below or check out the full interview at the top of the page.

"I'm really, really excited about it. ... I'm just really, really honored. It's not something that I really expected or, went for, or anything like that, it was just more: they called me up, like, 'Hey, we want you in the hall of fame.' I'm like, 'Oh, okay!' Like I said, I don't play for those reasons. To get notarized or to get to get a recognition or awards or anything like that. So whenever I do, it's really cool."

On how he fits with the Portland Trail Blazers:

"They have a good combination of young guys and veterans. Obviously, they went to the Western Conference Finals last year and surprised a lot of people. So I think one of the biggest deficiencies was having enough shooting around Dame (Damian Lillard) and CJ (McCollum). And, they had some really good athletes, but the shooting was not as good. So, Golden State every time, CJ and Dame touched the ball, they would just blitz them. And they wouldn't have an opportunity to really affect the game on the offensive end. ... I'm really excited about the prospects of the team that we're going to have, the guys that I'm going to be particularly playing with coming off the bench. Yeah, I'm really, really excited about it."...................

Listen I like him for the locker room, but he shouldn’t be getting minutes, nevermind more than Skal. It’s early but when it comes to the new guys, playing time should be earned, not given.

In game one, it looked like Skal was getting backup 5 minutes while Tolliver was getting backup 4 minutes.

Cut him, it will help our team on the court. Give Skal all of his minutes. I don’t care if he is a career 38% shooter from 3, he looks old and his shooting form makes me wanna puke.

I'm willing to give him a bit longer to prove himself, but am really disappointed in his play these first two games.

Can't wait till we get rid of him!

Come on Olshey, show some of that charm and trade him for a "disappointing young player".

Do you think Stotts is playing Tolliver because he’s a vet? Or that he did something in camp to look like he deserved it? Theres gotta be some reason he’s getting minutes...

He’s a vet and he spaces the floor (in theory.) I don’t know which one of those two Stotts has a hard on for more.

My thought is if Stotts has a role for him in mind then they should continue for 10ish games to see if it ever starts to click. If it continues to look this bad theyve gotta get him off the court, cause he’s reminds me ML out there, he’s thinking way too much, a step slow defensively, hesitating to take open shots, even if he is a serviceable role player somewhere it may be he just isnt that here. Just like ML his main job is to shoot the ball and if he’s hesitating to take open jumpers then he’s just not going to work.

I'm working on the Anthony Tolliver story for adaptation to a screenplay..... it's a movie about a fan being taken out of the stands to fill in off the bench. I was inspired by the musical masterpiece Bust a Bucket.
A Dan Reed fan in the House!
