Any traeger people out there?

I'm seriously thinking about purchasing a traeger grill. So I can just eat great delicious meats all the time and all the other great things like Papa Murphy's pizza.

Anything I should know before I go all out? Is there any certain models to stay away from? I've heard bad stories about the durability since they started manufacturing them in China. Is there a lot of other expenses that come along with having one?

I bought like a 5 pack of wood chips. I only broke into my 3rd one after 2 years.

I would definitely recommend the digital thermostat controller. It works sooo much better than low-medium-high settings

I think it's a junior. I don't think you can fit a large pizza there, but I am able to put in a full rack of babyback, or 3 whole chickens

Serious question for you, do you know how to BBQ? What are you using now? Are you getting good results? If you can't cook with charcoal a traeger isn't suddenly going to make you a grill master.

I'm looking to step my game up a little bit. 2 of my uncles have traegers and every time I eat the food they make on it its delicious. The past couple years Thanksgiving turkey has been amazing on the traeger. I might hold out for the bigger model when I have more room and I'm out of my lease at my apartment.

Buy a better charcoal grill. I doubt you're going to be cooking many turkeys.

Best thing I ever bought. You can go direct or build a sidebox low-smoke/charcoal fire for slow cooking which will maintain a low 200s temp. The charcoal grate is height adjustable rather than the grill which is awesome.

When I lived in Missouri everyone had these types of grills, mostly homemade, for doing brisket and ribs. Pellet grills were scoffed at, and propane meant public execution.

Why? There's a reason traegers have the reputation for the quality food they produce. I don't always want to go through the process of getting the coals going and everything.

I have a regular texas model traeger, which is the big one. Its the best bbq purchase ive ever made. I cook pretty much everything on it from brisket to crab legs to home made bread. The best value for money is the lil tex model from costco. Goes for $500 i think. Get one, you wont be disappointed. Its BBQ easy mode.

The big tex is a lot of grill and burns the wood faster. If you don't need to smoke two turkeys and a ham, the little tex will do you just right.

I love my regular tex, but better money would actually be spent on two lil tex's, now that know what I know. I rarely need the extra space in one grill. More often I run into the situation of Im on a 24hr brisket smoke, but I want to make burgers right now.

I got a small gas grill that I use a lot of the time for side dishes and the like. You don't really need the wood smoker to make a burger. Gas grill is fine for that

True, I do love the wood smoke flavor on my burgers though. I usually smoke em for an hour before i grill them anyway.
