Anyone Been To Maui?

Its been over 15 years since I went to Maui. I just remember trying to get to the hard rock cafe and it was packed!

I personally prefer the USVI like St Thomas or St. Croix. Went there once and would love to go back to the USVI over Hawaii any day. The coral is healthier, less damaged from snorkle fins, etc. You truly feel like you are in vacation and not a tourist trap like Hawaii has turned out to be.

So you haven't been to Maui in 15 years, but you know what it is like? I go there every other year and I like the balance of the tourist sites and how easy it still is to get away. That is why I like Napili, you spend the day there, which is not a busy beach, and then either chill in your room or go do the hustle of Kaanapali it is your choice.

Never did make it to Maui back then. New life now. Anyway, we're going to Maui in May for our 5th Anniversary. Looking at Lahaina or surrounds. Any recommendations on resorts, etc? We definitely want ocean front/view. I'm looking over some of these past recommendations, but there may be some new stuff out there.

Thanks in advance.

Did you go to the nude beach?

I’m sure that nice, but I just couldn’t go to a tropical island and stay in basically an apartment complex surrounded by tourists. Just can’t do it.
oh there are nice secluded places as well, we've done both and have had super times.

I prefer Kihei over Lahaina
Absolutely. Everyone raved about Lahaina so I stayed there and didn't care for it. Way too crowded with touristy things. Kihei had open spots all over the beaches and less touristy food options. It wasn't close for us. If i go back, i will stay in Kihei.

Go to the Westin in Kaanapali. There are actually two Westins, the Resort & Spa, and the Villas. Both great but I like the Resort. In fact, it is my literal favorite place on the planet. Everything you need. Whalers Village is next door. They have a shuttle every 15 mins takes you to Lahaina. Three pools, one for adults, right on the beach. Spend an evening out on a catamaran and snorkel/drinks/apps.

When I went, I stayed in Lahaina at the Lahaina Inn. 3 star inn in the center of town

I was there solo for a wedding on the other side of the island but wanted to stay by the bars and nightlife well, because I was there solo. For that purpose it was good, but Kaanpali is probably more what your looking for.

Crazy times in the ABM household. Mrs ABM now wants to scrap Maui for Puerto Vallarta. Good thing SW Airlines lets you make changes for free!

Apparently, this is the place she's targeted.

PV was my least favorite Mexican city I’ve been to. The ocean in that part of Mexico looks worse than the Willamette River.

Take the boo thang to isla mujures. You’ll thank me later.

She may even let you motorboat

100%. We stayed at Playa Mujeres and took a Catamaran to Isla Mujeres for a day. Best place I have ever been to.

Isla Mujeres is especially great if you like gringos and muchos touristas!

Touristas are only great if they come with cigarette butts, broken beer bottles and empty candy bar wrappers.

Appears she's dead set on Nuevo Vallarta. (Mayan Palace)

That said, she's now planning Jamaica in late September. Oh, the misery of it all!!

Wish I could do that but:
1. My dialysis makes that virtually impossible;
2. Where in the hell do you get all that money? Huh? Where? Why? Because I want some of that lettuce, that's why.

So, the old wife and the (relatively) new wife both scraped your vacation plans to Maui. Between Mexico and Maui, it's Maui every time for me. Maybe the next one will go through with it!

Yeah, she got all sentimental on me. We had planned to go to Puerto Vallarta on our honeymoon, but when we got to the airport, what I "thought" was a passport actually wasn't. It's one of those types you can use for cruises, etc. Looks like a drivers license. Anyway, we ended up going to St. Thomas Virgin Islands. Wonderful honeymoon, BTW! Oh, and, yes, I do have a "legit" passport now. We went to Jerusalem a few years ago.

OK, so.....now she wants to go back to PV, where we intended to go originally.

Commercial real estate and land development.
