Anyone glad we didn't get Hibbert now?

I like what the Pacers' coach did in the ATL game. Bench them all if they're not going to play hard.

I think Hibbert really wanted to be a Blazer and it's starting to sink in. Lockerroom chemistry should have a stat, I think we'd be #1 in that category

I dunno... you really only hear about 3 different locker room situations as a fan.

1) It's your team, and it's really good

2) It's your team, and it's really bad

3) It's some random team, and you only know about how bad it is because of the stories (see: Indiana).

If you had Bynum setting the tone for the team's Center, your attitude would become like his.

You have something there. He's depressed he's not in Portland. That's it!!!

Maybe he's one of the rumored All-Stars that told Dame/LMA he wanted to play with 'em?

I think Tyson Chandler would love to play for Stotts again after the Knicks fiasco.

I would still be fine with Hibbert. It would have allowed us to pickup a player last year with the cap exemption and the mle this year. Going into the playoffs with another player that could contribute plus another year of familiarity for Hibbert vice Lopez could be.the.edge.that would get us out of the.first round.

Happy with Lopez though. He is my son's favorite player too.

I think there are a ton of reasons to say no to Hibbert in hindsight... Especially if comparing him to ROLO. Minutes are very similar

fg% +10.3% Robin
ft% +4.6% Robin
Rebounds +1.7(per 36) Robin
PER +3.6 Robin
ORTG +27 Robin
Points +0.9 Roy
DRTG +9 Roy
BLK +0.7 Roy

I don't see that we gain much by having Hibbert over Robin especially when I see how well Robin fits in this organization.

Good post - thanks for pointing these stats out.

In addition, Robin will likely be somewhat cheaper, is 1.5 years younger, and let's be honest........ big men tend to break down more quickly than other players in the league. Not that Lopez is some speedy gazelle, but Hibbert has always been a slow, lumbering big man. He's shown in the past he sometimes wears down during long, intense games. I could see him "aging" more quickly than Lopez.

Don't get me wrong - I ain't hating on Hibbert. I was excited at the prospect of signing him and I'd be ecstatic if he were in Portland. But I love me some RoLo, and he clearly fits in with this team, the franchise, the organization, AND the city.

I really like Robin, but I would still rather have Roy. The numbers all kind of mush together, but one really stands out to me:

fg% +10.3% Robin
ft% +4.6% Robin
Rebounds +1.7(per 36) Robin
PER +3.6 Robin
ORTG +27 Robin
Points +0.9 Roy
DRTG +9 Roy
BLK +0.7 Roy

That's a pretty big increase in defensive rating. And Robin is cheap now, but when he gets his next contract the difference won't be as big.

So the +27 for Robin in ORTG doesn't stand out at all, giving Robin a net overall +18?

When they're both the 5th option in the starting line-up? ORTG isn't that big of a deal.
Don't get me wrong - I like Rolo. But I'd give up some of his offense if we got a MUCH better defender in return. With that said, I think the biggest difference in defense is in the coaching. Lopez could really narrow the gap between him and Hibbert if we had a good defensive system for him to work in.

If Indy's meltdown continues into the playoffs, this summer may be the best chance to trade for Hibbert . . .

If we'd gotten Hibbert when we tried, it would have been a great get, and we'd never look back.

But we didn't.

We now have Lopez, who was a great get, especially for the cost, and there is no reason to look back.

The Pacers are falling apart. I guess that's what you get when you bring in Andrew Bynum.

Another glorious game against a team he got paid to destroy....

5 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, 2 blocks on 2-7 shooting in 34 minutes.

He looks injured to me. He can barely run up and down the court to get into position.

certainly wouldn't mind having a beastly (healthy/rested) hibbert protecting the rim...

How sad is the east that someone got paid max money to defend one team 4 times? How freaking embarrassing.

He's clearly in a big funk right now. And with the way Robin is playing, I'm glad we have Robin over Hibbert. But now Robin will probably get his pay day....
