Anyone know what's up with Wheeler?

Play-by-play is a different skill, but this is not rocket science. Harvey's been listening to Wheeler's game descriptions for years and I'm sure he could do a reasonable version of it. Even if he wasn't up to Wheeler's level, it would be far preferable to what they did to the radio listeners last night. I actually felt sorry for anybody trying to follow the game that way, since Barrett and Rice weren't even describing half of what was going on.

Have you ever heard Harvey on the radio before? No way he could do play by play. He is at a loss for words all the time. Its not a big deal with color but it would be a disaster on play by play.

Try putting the TV on mute sometime and saying the play by play. Its freaking hard. I hear the announcers just as often as Harvey but no way I could do it.

I think the simulcast they have been doing has been less than successful. I remember them starting it off saying it would be "a little more descriptive than you're used to," but really what happened was more descriptions were given for people who could see the game. If you closed your eyes and just listened, you still had no idea what was going on until Barrett threw out a score here or there. Nothing against him or Rice, but they did not adjust to the three person simulcast format well, and I can't blame them. It's clearly a combination of skill, talent, and chemistry that makes a broadcast team work, and throwing in a second color guy and trying to be more descriptive for radio just doesn't work. On top of that, Wheels is a skilled veteran, and hard to live up to. I think Harvey has come a long ways since he got the job, but his talent lies in color commentary. Even Barrett is really not good for radio play by play, as he's more of a combo play by play / color commentator which suits him well for television broadcast.

Agree on all counts.

It was really frustrating when my stream would crap out and I would have to go strictly audio. I had NO CLUE what was going on. And I would get a score only when they were going to timeouts sometimes.

Wheeler is awesome. I feel I know everything that's going on + stats + a little of the wheeler "heat" when he gets on a ref or another player for a dirty call/play. Wheels is really the best.

Had to catch the 4th quarter on the radio today . . . had little to no idea what was going on. One time there must have been a TO called and no one said anything . . . I'm just waiting as they talked wondering if play is going on and finally figuring out some team called a TO.

I think they should use this time to let some wanna be take a crack at calling play by play or let MB take a serious shot at calling play by play.

Good. Kind of wish they had a sub PbP man on the radio instead of the simulcast. I know the guys did their best at it, but it was hard to follow on the radio. It really points out just how good Wheels is at what he does (even when he's a little overly emotional about some stuff).

Only the Blazers could have a Hall Of Fame announcer on their payroll and not use him in a situation like this.

LITERALLY, no one listening to the broadcast would give a rats ass if the Schonz was a bit slow
