Anyone know why Muslims hate being photographed?

Sly didn't say it was against the rules, he's just calling you on your bullshit cleverly hidden as disingenuous curiosity.

Why is my curiosity disingenuous because I am not planning on converting to Muslim? Last I checked there are still a lot of Muslim terrorists out there and by understanding them I can hopefully find a weakness that may ultimately save my life, or at learn to recognize when someone is about to declare a Jihad.

Additionally, sometimes I just like to learn shit.

If you hear someone shouting Allahu Akbar, duck and cover your head cause you probably don't have time to run.

Why does everyone in America need to become a religious scholar?

The more knowledge the better. We need to understand what we are dealing with in that it is followers of Islam that have issued Fatwas calling for Jihad against the people of our country.
They are at war with you and me and our country men.

Americans tend to think of Islam as just another religion but that is not the case. Muhammad to Moslem is, of course, the prophet par excellence, and the Koran is regarded by the orthodox as nothing less than the eternal utterance of Allah. But then the shortcomings of the moral teaching contained in the Koran are striking. Perhaps the teachings of Jesus whom they also accept as a prophet are meant to fill this gap but that seems to have been lost along the way.

Jesus did not teach doing any evil deeds to non believers but no way can you say that of Muhammad and his Koran. It often calls for judgement and harshly applied action.

Remember a few years back, those Al Qaeda faithful cutting off the head of an American contractor on TV in Iraq? I would wager they created the scene from this passage in the Koran

"We had surely seized him by the right hand,
And had cut through the vein of his neck.5
Nor would We have withheld any one of you from him.
But, verily, It (the Koran) is a warning for the God-fearing;
And we well know that there are of you who treat it as a falsehood.
But it shall be the despair of infidels,
For it is the very truth of sure knowledge.
Praise, then, the name of thy Lord, the Great."

They were just wasting another non believer (Infidel), No biggy. Allah Akbar!

This book is the distinction that defines the deferences between Christianity and Islam both of which build upon the Jewish religion with extremely different result. This is the book of Islam
not radical Islam but Islam.

Sure, I can agree with that. Too bad you jam this into every thread about Islam and Muslims. It's not all fatwas and jihad, you know.

You're acting like the Qur'an isn't just like any other religious text of antiquity: a set of politically motivated stories and proclamations designed to gather and retain power. There is no difference between the Qu'ran and the Bible in that sense. The only reason you see the Qur'an as morally deficient is because we live in the society that is based on the morals of the Bible. Shocking, I know. I wonder what people who live in the society that was based on the Qur'an think? Gee, it's almost like morals are relative to time, space and culture.

As far as I can tell, you combined several different passages into one there. Mind citing which Surah that came from?

It is a biggie. The founders and leaders of Al-Qaeda are Islamic scholars and they went through very lengthy and boring processes in order to issue fatwas to justify the killing of infidels. Almost every other Islamic tradition of analysis has condemned their interpretations and they love nothing more than having long, drawn out debates about this shit. It's not just whim and folly. You're demonstrating how little you understand about how this works.

Or if you hear thunder, get to the bunker, 'cause you're at least four times as likely to die from being struck by lightning as you are by terrorist attack.

There maybe Muslims who disagree with the Fatwa that Al Qaeda marches to but none forcefully move to end the them or their war.

The quote was and pluck line for line with copy/past, LXIX. Search for Infidel, you will get hit and many despicable teachings.

When you get done there find a comparable teach of Jesus in the New testament that will rival
the intolerance of Muhammad in the Koran.

Here is another little gem to welcome the non believer

"SURA LXXVI. MAN [LII.]
Mecca. 31 Verses
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Doth not a long time pass over MAN, during which he is a thing
unremembered?1
We have created man from the union of the sexes that we might
prove him; and hearing, seeing, have we made him:
In a right way have we guided him, be he thankful or ungrateful.
For the Infidels we have got ready chains and collars and flaming
fire.
But a wine cup tempered at the camphor fountain2 the just shall
quaff:..."

you have almost come full circle..but you are still trying to apply western thinking to this very alien eastern belief system. I am sure you know that almost every armed conflict in the entire world is being waged by Muslims.

Oh, there may be Muslims who disagree with Al Qaeda? Heavens, I hope they show up soon. Man, you're just talking out your ass at this point. Read some history.

There's historical context to every religious text. The Qur'an was written when Muslims were scrappy underdogs trying to establish a military foothold. There's also hundreds of years of Islamic interpretation that translates the Qur'an into lessons for modern times. You can't cherry pick verses from the Qur'an and then claim you know how modern Muslims think. It doesn't work that way.

Islam is a Abrahamic religion. It's not so foreign as you think. And I don't get what you mean.

Also, correlation doesn't equal causation.

Hoo, buddy, you are still trying to apply western thinking to this issue. Their belief system was alien to Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus etc. Where other cultures have evolved, for the most part, Muslims desire to revert those that have and remain as is.

Man, you're just talking out your ass at this point.

Oh! Ha ha! That be it, heh? Well you have to know, talking out ass is vastly preferable to head up ass. Bad way to play Ostridge.

Hoo, buddy, you are still trying to apply western thinking to this issue.

You're going to have to explain what you mean by that.

Their belief system was alien to Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus etc. Where other cultures have evolved, for the most part, Muslims desire to revert those that have and remain as is.

This is just false.

All human beings are vain, wishing only to be photographed on their good side.

Maybe these particular Muslims who object have no good side. :dunno:

My guess is by western thinking he means rational thinking.

Whichever he means, I don't get his premise that I'm the one who's applying western ideas to understanding Islam. I'm not the one who boils down any discussion of Islam into listing stereotypes. I'm not the one viewing Islam only from the lens of Christianity and/or counter-terrorism tropes (about as "West" as you can get.)

I am sure you know that almost every armed conflict in the entire world is being waged by Muslims.

That used to be the Christians. Your religion is just as shitty, they're just in different periods. I don't even understand how you can think Islam and Christianity are that different, because they're incredibly similar.

Ah Good! a Religion scholar

Perhaps you can tell us if thiis scripture might be a plausible cover for bringing down a tall building with people who like life now inside?

SURA XIV. ABRAHAM, ON WHOM BE PEACE [LXXVI.]
MECCA. 52 Verses
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
ELIF. LAM. RA. This Book have we sent down to thee that by
their
Lord's permission thou mayest bring men out of darkness into
light, into the path of the Mighty, the Glorious
Of God; to whom belongeth whatever is in the Heavens and
whatever is on the Earth: and woe! for their terrible punishment,
to the infidels,
Who love the life that now is, above that which is to come, and
mislead from the way of God, and seek to make it crooked. These
are in a far-gone error.
And in order that He might speak plainly to them, we have not sent
any Apostle, save with the speech of his own people; but God
misleadeth whom He will, and whom He will he guideth: and He is
the Mighty, the Wise.

That used to be the Christians. Your religion is just as shitty, they're just in different periods. I don't even understand how you can think Islam and Christianity are that different, because they're incredibly similar.

I have an understanding of your point of view. Could you please tell me what "religion" I am? There is a vast difference between Muslims and the rest of the religions in the world. Where say Catholicism was perverted during the Spanish inquisition, Christianity was used to control the population under the rule of Constantine..I can go on, these are isolated events. Hell, even the crusades are isolated. The violence of the Muslim religion has been consistent for four thousand years. I am not exaggerating when I point out that almost every armed conflict in the would and nearly every act of terror is being carried out in the name of the Muslim religion. I dont know..to me there is a difference.

It doesn't matter what religion you say you are. Most religions are the same. They're all the same in the fact that they are based on superstition and lies.

Christianity and Islam are very closely related religions. Muslims are religious. Catholics are religious. You are religious. Theres hardly a difference to me.

When Christians speak ill of other religions, I feel they are furthering my point: Religion sucks.

Muslims aren't blowing shit up because they are Muslim. Every conflict and every act of terror is political. Where was the unrelenting violence during the Ottoman era?

as a matter of fact, yes. Look into the history of the Roman Empire. The craziest peoples they ever encountered were those, and that says a lot considering the company.

That doesn't mean anything. The Ottomans didn't become an empire until the 14th century, and by then the Eastern Roman empire was well into decline, a mere two centuries before its collapse. So, they fought. There was war. This was nothing new.

My point is that when there is peace, happiness and prosperity, Islam acts as any other religion would. And when there is violence, oppression and war, Islam acts as any other religion would.

I was under the assumption that you were speaking of the region and those that followed the Muslim teachings..

but more to your point..and I will quote "My point is that when there is peace, happiness and prosperity, Islam acts as any other religion would. And when there is violence, oppression and war, Islam acts as any other religion would."

simply not true, Hoo. With all due respect, To take this statement as a whole, the facts of current violence in the world is being propagated is only by one religion.

To say when there is peace, happiness and prosperity that things are fine is also not true, that has historically been when they felt the need to bring their truth to the infidels by force..it is a fundamental part of their belief system, not just my opinion.

you know, it would be easier to make your argument if there was not thousands of years of history that contradicts you.

Holy Mackerel When were you a Rhodes Scholar?

Holy Mackerel When were you a Rhodes Scholar?

be nice, buddy, be nice..

this brings to mind something I was told a long time ago, and have increased my understanding the older I get.

The passage of time is relative to ones age. When you are five, a summer is forever because you only have several lucid years of life to compare it to. By the time you are fifty, a year passes quickly as a year is only one of forty eight or so that you can recall.

Wisdom is much the same. You can teach someone a subject but until they can apply the relevance to their lives it is of no value.

The largest difference between the older generations and the younger ones is that we were taught how to think, while the education system today teaches only what to think.

Yes, I was. Wasn't I?

Which conflicts? You're going to have to get specific.

What are you talking about? Please give me some examples of peaceful Muslims societies that then "Feel the need to bring their truth to the infidels by force." Conversion is a big part of Islam, as it is in many parts of Christianity and other religions. But by force? That's not fundamental.

you know, it would be easier to make your argument if there was not thousands of years of history that contradicts you.

Lol. I would LOVE to get into the history if you could just be a little more specific about your arguments.

That's weird. Wasn't schooling 60 years ago rote memorization?
