Anyone watching the debate?

So far, I like some of the things Ron Paul said, Huntsman said and Santorum said.

Newt came off like a whiner (don't make us republicans in fight! you're protecting Obama! I'm speaking to the super conservatives who believe that shit!), Bachman is just a loon (answer everything with Obamacare!) and Perry and Romney cancel each other out.

damn you sly! beat me by 2 minutes.

Herman is a star.

Watch a debate where the combined IQ of all the contestants = 2 digits?

A bit too frustrating for an optimist such as myself.

well, Bachman stuck by her m.o. of "ignore the question, change the subject so I can blame Obama" for every single answer.

I hate it when candidates do that.

Like watching a Saturday Night Live skit. You conservatives should be proud of those guys!

It was genius. She said whatever she wanted and then they usually asked her a follow-up to insist she answer the actual question, which she could answer or just ramble some more. Doubles her time on the podium.

I caught the last few minutes. Rick Perry didn't sound very smooth defending himself about climate change. And Ron Paul not just sounded crazy, but looked crazy too. Wouldn't let him anywhere near my kids if I had any. I'm sorry I didn't get to see it all. Good entertainment.

Flounder uttered those words right as his cronies had littered marbles all over the road that the band was going to be marching down.

I was just thinking that, even though Perry was attempting to call a spade a spade, marbles were figuratively being spilt. And, I loved it!! ;)

dumb that down a little more. I've never seen Animal House, and I'm not sure if you're saying he was wrong or you support him.

Heck, I've seen the movie and still have no idea what ABM is saying.

Perry spit out a direct, if not potentially controversial, response to a controversial subject. No beating around the bush. Exposed himself, really. I could have just seen that Flounder character reveling in what I'm sure will become political fodder.

You should be in creative debate programming! I got 20 bucks that Perry can do the somersault dunk but Gingrich can't.

Funny, I was thinking more of Otter's response to Flounder (with Otter representing the political class), "You fucked up; you trusted us."

IMO, Romney won the debate. Perry got knocked around a little and needs to bone up on foreign policy. Bachmann toned down her act, but is losing traction to Perry. I don't think Brian Williams or the guy from Politico could wrap their heads around Paul's ideas. Cain didn't impress. Santorum seemed knowledgeable, but didn't have much of a chance to mix it up. Huntsman was better, but too little, too late. Gingrich was great, calling a spade a spade, but it's clear that he's not expecting to win anything.

For the most part I agree; though not about newt. I think paul needs to explain his ideas in longer sound bites, but those don't relate well in debate format.

What I meant about Ron Paul was that Inside-The-Beltway folks like Brian Williams just can't conceive of the ideas that Ron Paul proposes, like auto companies being responsible for their own safety and mileage standards, or airlines being responsible for their own security and air traffic control. In their minds, the Federal Government must occupy a central part of American life.

I don't trust the car companies to do that though. Even with what has been done (which was only done because they had too and not because they wanted to) I don't they have the incentive to do it

exactly. Big business would rather stonewall and face lawsuits vs joe average nobodies in our courts then have their feet held to the fire by an agency requiring higher standards. They can deal with some collateral damage settlements if they're making $$$ hand over fist with inferior products.

I'd rather pay for the engineered railing at the top of the viewpoint then forego that and have the individual(s) pay for the ambulance ride

Did Bachmann ever REALLY have a shot at the nomination? If she did, god help that party.

I would argue that Michele Bachmann is no further to the right than our current President was to the left when he won his party's nomination.

Rick Perry: "Social Security in its current form is nothing more than a Ponzi Scheme."

Which then humorously reminded me of what Flounder, in Animal House, might have exclaimed....

Why isn't it a Ponzi Scheme?

The people who contributed all their lives to it had their funds fraudulently taken from the Trust Fund and spent on tea and circuses. Now the thing is running a deficit and it's got tens of $Trillions in unfunded liabilities going forward.

Huntsman was the concensus winner on C-SPAN this morning (judging by what the callers were saying).

Ron Paul is the winner according to this unscientific poll on MSNBC's site (host of the debate):
