I think part of the problem with Jason Quick is that he's been in the same job too long. He doesn't have any new angles.

I thought for years he did a very good job covering the team. However, the beat writer job isn't meant to be a long-term gig. There are only so many angles by which one can analyze a basketball team that the average reader would find interesting. After that, there's simply too much that happened in the past that colors his view of the team.

I don't harbor any animus toward Quick, I just think he needs to find a new challenge.

He isn't technically the beat writer anymore. He's a columnist. Joe Freeman is the beat writer.

He did try to find a new challenge. He tried to infect the Oregon Ducks with his own brand of STD and it didn't work so he came crawling back to the NBA.

Technically the Oregonian brought him back to help out because they said they lost another guy but yes it could certainly have something to do with him not getting much access at UofO.

I absolutely think he checked out on the Duck beat because the Ducks don't give half the access the Blazers do.
