I think part of the problem with Jason Quick is that he's been in the same job too long. He doesn't have any new angles.
I thought for years he did a very good job covering the team. However, the beat writer job isn't meant to be a long-term gig. There are only so many angles by which one can analyze a basketball team that the average reader would find interesting. After that, there's simply too much that happened in the past that colors his view of the team.
I don't harbor any animus toward Quick, I just think he needs to find a new challenge.
He isn't technically the beat writer anymore. He's a columnist. Joe Freeman is the beat writer.
He did try to find a new challenge. He tried to infect the Oregon Ducks with his own brand of STD and it didn't work so he came crawling back to the NBA.
