Blazers are better with Brogdon instead of Dame?

While the thread title doesn’t distinguish the year, the OP makes it clear it’s a discussion of this year versus last year. Which is what my post focused on.

Ok, let's go with the assumption you have made: Last year, the Blazers won 47% of the games Dame played in. I'm going strongly take the under on Brogdon's win percentage this season being under 47%. I continue to say the question is silly because Brodgon is a bench player on this team and Dame was the clear #1 option. The roster is different. The sample size is incredibly small this season.

If we want to debate if the franchise is moving in a better direction because of the players on the team, their contracts, and future assets, I think there is plenty to discuss. The Brogdon vs Dame part of the question makes little to no sense.

For those ready to point to our defense being much improved 6 games in, here is our defensive rating 14 games into last season (with Dame):

Again, nobody can make a claim this isn't a comparison between Dame/Brodgon when those two are specifically listed. It's not poorly worded, it's intentionally asking which player makes the team better.

We agree Dame is better than Brodgon. I'm not sure if you think Brogdon is our best player. If you don't, then asking if a top 75 player of all time makes a team better than a 6th man, with so many other moving parts, makes no sense. If you do think Brogdon is our best player, then I guess we'll see if he leads this team to a better regular season winning percentage than Dame did in 10 season.

Of course, any reasonable person will realize this team will finish with a worse record this year than an average season where Dame was healthy, and cite the many other variables for this, which is exactly my original point for why the question is silly.

Perhaps reading the multiple responses where I said Dame was better would help. Again, the title was not, is Dame better than Brogdon or vice versa. It's, the Blazers are better..... and ends with a question mark? And yes, all of the pieces that came over could have been reference but that would have made for quite the long title.

Dame hasn't been on a good rebounding team since his very early days. Without the Dame trade, we'd still have traded for Ayton (and possibly Camara, too!), and we would be MUCH better.

I've heard Nurk was Dames boy and wanted nothing to do with Ayton. Portland was offered Ayton last season.

Yeah.

too many other variables. could debate and go in circles. I’ll just say pdx had no chance of winning last year, i had no idea where they were going as a franchise, and i feel better knowing there’s a direction now. and I like the collection of potential.

If the question was simply if the Blazers are better moving forward than they were a year ago and it wasn't about two specific players, why would the two specific players be mentioned, by name, in the question? Do you think the names were included by accident?

Here's a hint. When it was made, Brogdon was the best PG that happened to be on the team and was the obvious counter to Dame. I suppose he could have listed any new player, but Brogdon is not the PG. NO ONE said he was better than Dame. Perhaps they could have just left Brogdon off as you say, but Dame is the main player missing.....while there are a list of players that were added.

And never mind. Keep going on if you'd like. It seems pretty obvious what the intent was since it was a question about the team and not a question about who was better, MB or Dame.

Thanks for the hint, tips. Also appreciate you determining what ST meant.

I'll continue to read the question as it was written, not as you feel it was intended. "Are the Blazers better off with Bogdon instead of Dame?" The answer is obviously no and it's not even close, for the reason you listed! Even the results of the poll aren't close.

Fine....but it is asking about if the Blazers are better, not if Brogdon is better than Dame. That is not a 'feel it was intended'. Enjoy. And as for "not even close", this team will win just as many playoff series as the Dame led Blazers in the last 4 years....so perhaps it is closer than one might think.

Agree, Yet 40 people voted to trade him by the deadline, including yourself. A lot of people wanting to make sure we tank again. My question is how many of those 40 will be bitching about Chauncey's record once we do.
Who knows? The record isn’t what people should be bitching about. It should scheme, or lack there of

That's an interesting metric to use. Not based off game control, not regular season win percentage, not making the playoffs? It's playoff series wins? You know hoops TB, so I'll assume what you're doing at this point is purposely disingenuous for entertainment reasons only. And for that, I tip my cap, Nate is rubbing off on you!

The 9 people who voted yes on this thread must collectively be suffering from amnesia. Wtf man. This shit is embarassing.

Illmatic99, you don't understand what the OP meant.

Not in the least. Your quote was, "Are the Blazers better off with Bogdon instead of Dame?" The answer is obviously no and it's not even close..."

Well, if neither team wins a playoff series, or doesn't make the Playoffs like the Blazers did the last 2 years, how is it "not even close"? Anyone who doesn't make the Playoffs in this expanded Playoff format, is trash. Is one piece of trash a little stinkier than the other? Perhaps. But "not even close", I will just agree to disagree.

And still, my entire premise was the title being about "The Blazers are better....? No where does it say Brogdon is better than Dame. That has been my point the entire time. The responses have had little to do with that. I will excuse myself from this as now you have chosen to throw around personal accusations.

My entire premise was about the title being about "....Brogdon instead of Dame?" See how it works when you only include half the title?

But you are excused. I have forgiven you for your previous snarky responses, I didn't take them personal.

Just salty delusional people that want to convince themselves that Dame isn't great. Fucking ridiculous. Just more people acting like Dame is the significant other that dumped them. "He wasn't that good anyway, who needs him?" type of shit. Just lame.
2023 is truly (hopefully) the low point in Blazer fandom.

I avoided this thread because it’s a pointless exercise the truth is that neither Dame or Malcolm matter. The future is Scoot. Period. End of story.

Had to check back in to see where the number is now? Up to 9?
Can we get an even 10?

That is from the in-depth CBS article. The reporter pulled no punches and mentioned that the decade long honeymoon Dame enjoyed in Portland is over.
A bit of a tacky analogy given his divorce...
