And can we win a championship with that lineup?

Hard to argue with 4-0 though 3 of the wins came against Minny & Memphis.

It's a situational thing and it depends on match ups too of course. But if its working why mess with it until we have to. And I'm sure during the course of the season we are going to change it along with a trade, when Batum comes back. By the time he returns I am sure we will go back to last years lineup, and either Outlaw or Blake will have to be shipped, but that's not going to happen till February.

No, I don't think we'll win a title with that starting lineup.

It will be interesting though to see how Nate responds to the first loss with this lineup.

I think Miller has proven that he is the starting point guard. I think Blake has proven that he's been a shooting guard all along, while Roy has been the point guard.

I would like to see our starting lineup with Miller/Roy/Webster/Aldridge/Oden

with Rudy/Blake/Joel/Outlaw off the bench.

I think that's the lineup that makes the most sense and what most people expect it to be eventually sometime. I wouldn't mind seeing Jerryd get in that second unit for 5-10 mins with Blake and Rudy if the matchups are right, and have him play some SG.

I heard that Blake actually was happy he didn't have to do the PG duties as much as usual. Which only leads me to one conclusion.

He hates Veterans.

That and he's actually a SG who is short and can play PG in a pinch but has pictures of Nate McMillan wearing wearing a tutu, which allowed him to start all these games.

Must have got them from Jarret Jack when he left time...

well, I think it had something to do with Nate like having Jarrett Jack off the bench...

fixed :)

Seriously Martell? What exactly do you think he has proved so far?

Ditto. Some of us have been talking about a three-guard rotation (Roy/Bayless/Fernandez) and maybe that makes sense some day in the future. But right now, I'd like a starting tandem of Miller and Roy and three-guard rotation on the second string of Blake/Bayless/Fernandez.

I still have high hopes for Batum upon his return but Webster has looked better to me this year than Batum looked last year.

Batum last year was, of course, significantly younger than Webster is now, but Martell has demonstrated the ability to contribute offensively at a higher level than Nic. It's inconsistent, to be sure, but I'll take inconsistently good over inconsistently bad any day of the week.

What about 36% FG%, with a 36% 3FG, is consistent about Web's game at this point? I ask because I want Webster to start over Blake, but it's not like he's claimed a starting spot this year with his play.

It'll be even more interesting the response and meltdown of this forum.

Short answer to both questions is emphatically no. Although I don't think winning a championship is really in the cards this season regardless of who is in the lineup.

There's no way this team will be able to get over on the Lakers with Miller, Blake and Roy when they trot out Artest, Kobe, Odom, Bynum and Gasol. Somebody's got to guard Artest and Kobe and do you really think B-Roy and Blake can manage that?

I must admit, I wasn't even considering this lineup before it happened, but I've definitely grown to like it.
If it's Blake or Rudy, it doesn't really matter. both can hit the three and make the pass which makes them better than either Batum or Webster on offense. on defense, they're quicker and can stay in-front of their man, if he's trying to post them up we have two of the best shot-blocking centers in the game behind them. Am I saying we're never gonna get burned by this? no, but it's worth it.

I didn't see the 1st quarter in tonight's game and maybe that's why I'm not sharing the gloom, but having two point-guards and one Roy in the lineup makes our offense very hard to stop. Ball movement, cutters, passes inside and out. What I saw from Martel when he was playing is mostly standing in the corner, not moving not nothing and looking angry on the bench. I'm sorry, but you don't get your un-deserved starting spot back just by whining. he did get his points in the end and he is best-suited to playing with Rudy, if he likes it or not doesn't really matter to me.
Don't believe me, think of Greg Oden, how much better offensively he's been since the swap? it seems like there's no connection but there is, the team just plays better.

Will it be enough to win the championship? after 4 wins in a row, I say it might, after the next loss, i'd probably say it might not. But the Blazers have looked very good lately. Granted, it's against mostly below-average competition but we do have a unique look, something that isn't easy to defend and not easy to scout, something most teams are not used to seeing. Blake is a point-guard, you really can't say that he isn't and playing with two PGs is something you don't see everyday. And so far, so good.

Two things:

I really like our help defense right now. Our guys seem to be rotating much better.

We seem to be playing the passing lanes better. Rudy is a steals machine.

I think when Nicolas gets back and shown he's healthy, he'll probably get back that starting spot. And Martell hasn't been that much of a scrub this season. I like the energy he's brought, he's not the same stand-in-the-corner player anymore. He's flying in, trying to get some rebounds, and he's been playing some defense and getting deflections and blocks.
And tonight, he had 16 pts in 25 mins, albeit against a bad team, but he's looked pretty good so far for a guy who was off for a whole year.

I'm still interested in Webs being our true "6th man" - and start with Miller/Roy/Rudy/LA/Oden

Then Webs comes in for added momentum (replacing Rudy) with Blake spelling either Roy or Miller.

Outlaw has to be the one who comes in for LA for the time being - which raises the red flag as to our biggest weakness - back-up PF banger-type. I suppose Pendergraph was to be that player...but with his injury, we seriously need a back-up PF banger on this team.
