He was nowhere near the ball,
He was nowhere near the ball, unless he thought that (A) Rudy shoots the ball with his head, or (B) Rudy doesn't have a head.
Typical Laker-loving by the NBA. Of well, Ariza's still a douche.
At being no where near the ball. Take off your Blazers' goggles and realize he got ball + body.At being no where near the ball. Take off your Blazers' goggles and realize he got ball + body.
This is a Blazer board. I realize Laker fans think that doesn't matter, but it does. So if you want to defend the douche Ariza, don't expect civil discourse in return. Now put back on your Laker kneepads and get to work!
Well maybe if you would be an atom more objective you would see Ariza did make contact with the ball

Ariza's not a douche. It was an unfortunate result from a hard foul on his part. Hard fouls are part of the game.

After he went through the head with his bicep, which makes it a dangerous and intentional play.

Newsflash, Laker bitches.
You're in a fucking Blazer forum. Complaining about our "goggles" etc, makes you look like idiots.

There is a big difference between the two plays...
Here is a refresher:
Horford:
Nowhere close to the ball
Downward striking motion
Full swipe of his face sending his head back
Ariza:
Made contact with the ball
Came across the body so there was a chance to avoid contact rather than downwards
Hit Rudys head from the side
The Horford foul was way more brutal when you consider just what happened in the air
DaRizzle you have to admit Ariza acted like a complete idiot after the foul? If he really didn't want to hurt Rudy why not act a little concerned and not like you just did something good for his team or what ever he was trying to act like. I wouldn't have been that upset with him if he just acted like a normal human would have acted in that situation. I still would have been worried about Rudy and a little upset with Ariza but not like I was after his "big fucking act".
Well maybe if you would be an atom more objective you would see Ariza did make contact with the ball
And the HEAD and the arms. Again, read the rule. There is no mention of intent or "going for the ball". Sure, he hit the ball AFTER he hit the head. It was unecessary and excessive contact. That is the requirement for a flargrant 2. The refs got the call right, and the league agreed.
The only issue here is why no one game suspension? Again, intent is irrelevant. It's the act that's punished, not the intent. The act was clear. He took down a player, who had left his feet, from behind with a blow to the head and arms. I really don't see why that's even debatable. You've watched replay, right?
So, why don't you take off the piss colored glasses and look at the bigger picture. Do you want open season on YOUR players where they can be taken down from behind with a blow to the head? This a bigger issue than this one foul. It's about protecting ALL players from being hit from behind when they are in the air and extremely vulnerable. By not suspending Ariza, the league office has said it's OK to SOMETIMES commit these kind of reckless, dangerous fouls. It's a very dangerous precident.

All I was saying is PapaG refused to even admit Ariza was that close to the ball

In which is a sub-forum of SportsTwo, a forum that Mamba, HK and other Laker fan an excellent job working on. They can talk where they want, when they want.
You need a little lesson in reading comprehension. Nobody said they couldn't post here, just that if they do, don't expect a friendly, unbiased response.

This isn't the Blazer forum. It's the Raptors forum. We should start talking about what Toronto is gonna do in the off-season. I think trying to trade for Ariza is a good idea. He's a great player, who can deliver when called upon and who commits hard fouls, that aren't made to injure anyone. What do you think PapaG? Ariza would look nice on Toronto.
So, do you, or don't you agree that Ariza should have been suspended for one game for committing a dangerous act that put another player at risk of serious injury? If not, then you'll have no problem when someone does the same thing to Kobe, right?
Again, this is bigger than this one foul. The league should send a clear message that this NEVER allowed (taking down a player, who has left his feet, from behind with a blow to the head), rather than muddying the waters by sending an unclear message.

BNM, Ill give you credit, you have given the most convincing arguments so far to the other side...but I still disagree.
Players get bopped in the head during a foul in virtually every NBA game that is played. Yes I know intent has nothing to do with deciding if its a flagrant or not. I mean, Ariza was 3 inches of clearance space away from making an amazing block. I obviously dont want players to get hurt but you gotta let them play...shit happens
Hard fouls are part of the game.
