This thread is probably going to be sidetracked with the topic, so here is my take. There is no need to spank or smack a child. The only purpose it serves is letting the parent vent.. It does nothing for the kid positive.. Both my children respect authority but do not fear it.

As said, we have no idea the true story. Custody battles can be nasty and hope they work it out for the kids sake.

45 years ago I went through a battle just to get visitation rights for my two year old son.
I never missed a child support payment and when I went to pick him up on designated times in papers, nobody home. This went on for a long time so I got an attorney we ended up having to get her back in court three times and the judge threatening to jail her and give me full custody. She finally started to adhere to the visitation order's. She told the third judge that she decided to take a new direction with her life and wanted to start a new chapter that didnt involve messing around with visitation rights and such as the child was only two and figured he wouldn't be effected. Judge went ballistic. I have had a Wonderfull relationship with my son since and is very close to his 1/2 bro's & sister.
My attorney told me part of the issue with dads is many give up because of the emotions and fight needed to protect their rights. If a guy doesn't pay child support it goes to criminal court if a gal refuses child visitation or other rights it goes to civil court which can be a problem in getting defendant to comply as there is usually no threat initially to follow through on visitation.

The unfortunate thing is this is likely going to come down to witness accounting or basically a he said she said situation. So we probably will never know for sure and therefore we should all just be ready to withhold judgment indefinitely. As far as basketball goes, it's important to note that this isn't the NFL where the commissioner makes it standard practice to moralize issues with little proof and without criminal conviction, handing down steep suspensions. This is the NBA and if Ariza isn't convicted of anything criminal he'll be playing if he wants to be.

Do you know children are the only group of people it is legal to hit? Used to be legal to hit servant, apprentice, military subordinate, slave, wife, animal. It is a sign of progress that those have been outlawed. Yet exception is still made for children. Why?

Its just to easy to publicly slander and accuse someone these days. Before any judgement is passed the evidence must be presented.
Im an old fart, but growing up we were all taught that a person was innocent until proven guilty.

I used to fly a lot during my working days and I've seen parents that do nothing for uncontrollable kids, numerous times I saw toddlers beating the crap out of their mom hitting in the face and screaming, while mom did nothing. On several occasions the flight attendant would come by and try and defuse with offering to hold or provide apple juice or something. Some parents did nothing to control their kids on the plane and were very passive with them. Others had control over their kids and seemed to respond to sternness and discipline. I also made sure my kids were well behaved on a plane or public place. We have 12 grandkids and some are raised with very passive approach with little discipline and some with discipline. You can see the difference in how they respond with respect to authority. Love them all, but kids need to be taught obedience and respect at a young age. My wife is a retired second grade school teacher and she is firm with our grandkids but it is offset with tremendous love and affection.

Those women are notorious for the tough love approach. A whooping if you’re acting crazy isn’t doing anything but showing that there is consequences.

My parents were loving, caring parents. If I got stupid though there was a possibility of it. My mom was the disciplinarian. No screaming, or shouting.

I’m a softy with kids so it isn’t my style. I do think more kids these days need discipline.

That is the key right there.
Punishment by itself does nothing but generate fear.
Punishment and correction combined with love & affection helps individuals grow and become the best versions of themselves. These experiences are good for us.

I hated Ariza til this year, especially given how much i enjoyed Rudy here. But my hate has waned with time, I have to admit. It's still there beneath the surface, though.

Trail Blazers’ Trevor Ariza ‘strongly denies’ allegations he abused his 12-year-old son: Reports

Portland Trail Blazers’ forward Trevor Ariza has been accused of physically abusing his 12-year-old son and a judge has issued a temporary restraining order preventing Ariza from visiting the child, according to a reports.

Ariza has “strongly denied,” the allegations, made by the mother of the child. The 35-year-old Ariza and Ariza’s ex-girlfriend, Lana Allen, have been engaged in a long-running custody dispute, according to tmz.com. Ariza claims Allen is trying to damage his relationship with his son and end visitation rights.


According to the Associated Press, Allen alleges in court documents that Ariza punched his son in the arm and shoulder and put him in a choke hold on July 25 during a visit at Ariza’s home in Los Angeles. The documents called Ariza’s actions “inexcusable; a parent should never punch and choke their child for any reason.” The court documents also include a statement from the 12-year-old saying he fears his father and does not want to see him.


Ariza’s response is the child’s mother has been manipulating him into making such statements and has tried to prevent him from testifying in custody hearings.


Ariza says “what is occurring here is in fact [Allen’s] abuse of the minor child by her relentless, cruel loyalty conflict for [the child], alienation campaign and selfishly driven attempts to interfere in father and son’s relationship.” -- tmz.com


Ariza opted out of playing with the Trail Blazers during the restart in the NBA bubble. Ariza said in court documents he made the decision to opt out so he could spend time with his son, whom he hadn’t seen since December.
