Using all star games as a way to measure a players value and ability is a joke as long as fans are voting.
Fans only vote for the starters and very rarely ever pick a starter that the coaches wouldn't have picked as a backup. It says something about the level a player has played at throughout his career if he hasn't made a single all star team... it doesn't mean they can't be valuable but it does mean that the coaches around the league don't value that player at an all star level.

Your understanding of the All Star team selection is a joke. First, the fans only have 50% of the vote for the Starters. The players and media have 25% each. Second, the reserves are chosen by the coaches. And Silver picks the injury replacements. Were there really players that you thought shouldn't have made the All Star game last year? And how much, if any, did the fans have to say in that decision?

It's HCP. The guy knows hardly anything about basketball.

Yeah, it's not like it's his job to watch basketball or anything... or like he's part of sports media. I'm not saying that makes him more knowledgeable than anyone else in here I just think it gives him a pretty high baseline that he's starting from.

All star game selections have always been and will always be a joke. It’s no way to measure a player.
I feel the same way SOMEWHAT about championships.
Adam Morrison and JR Rider have rings whole Stockton, Malone, Barkley and Iberian don’t.

Good point. LeBron sucks. His 18 All Star appearances mean nothing.

John Stockton is better than Michael Jordan. He is all time leader in assists and steals. Jordan’s 6 rings mean nothing. Even Darko has one!

As long as Zion stays healthy they will finish ahead of us. Looking forward to seeing that happen and our fans bitch about it.
There is no one on that team, including Zion, that is nearly as good as Dame.

And Zion and Ingram are way better than anyone other than Dame on our team. Valanciunas is better than Nurk.

Willing to make a bet with you that the Pels have a better record at year end.

This collection of words you so proudly typed out, makes no sense. None of it. What are you talking about?

Please read up on "straw man argument" before posting. jesus fucking christ. nobody EVER in the history of the universe has EVER said Lebron sucks other than your straw man. time to sober up man.

Pivoting to a conversation of a ring's value in no way bolsters your opinion about all star game selections. Of course guys that were bench warmers or even important role players on championship teams aren't as great as guys with 10+ all star selections.

Getting back to the actual conversation, when the coach of the all star team picked the backups there were a lot of fluky all star appearances but with the coaches as a collective voting and selecting the all star backups and like I said before, the fans rarely if ever selecting someone that wouldn't have been an all star backup; having multiple all star appearances is valuable. Could CJ be better than a few of the guys who have only made one or two all star teams? Sure but CJ isn't on the level of the guys who have more than a few all star selections... find one guy with three or more all star selections that's active right now that CJ's career matches up favorably with theirs especially when you consider where those guys were at during their all star seasons. CJ just hasn't ever been at that level.
