Around the NBA 2022 Playoffs: The Thread

Im not so sure, the NBA loves superstars and market size doesn’t seem to matter too much anymore. We’ll see who is right, but it wouldn’t surprise me if this is the series in which the NBA decides to change horses and starts backing a younger, whiter star/team.
The Warriors consistently brought in the highest ratings for the league this season. If the league is going to dictate who wins, it's hard to see them choosing to get off the money train... thats what their bias has historically favored.

Pretty sure Dallas is bringing in some money as well with all of Europe watching. We know Boston has a huge following and Miami is very popular. These conference finals will make the league some money if they are better than sweeps.

You mean corporations take advantage of their position to make more money and cheat others?

No way!

Well yeah, of course. Besides a contested series generating more interest, it's estimated that each extra game generates 10-20M for the hosting city.

Finals were July last year. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Could be. Short off-season, and several players going straight from the Finals to the Olympics, could have led to a coincidentally mirror-like sputtering finish.

Do you think Simons/Hart/Elleby/Winslow/Nurk could've beaten these Suns in the first round?

had it not all gone South -

healthy Dame, CJ, Simons, healthy Nas and Nurk - yes….we may have finished 6-7 and been playing!

few years ago Dallas had nothing. got lots of assets through good trades got Donic and now back in the western finals. I wish we could have a rebuild like that but we gave away our assets for nothing.
Our assets were overpaid, hence didn't have good value. Them's the breaks.

This might have been mentioned already but it's pretty interesting to have two Portland highschool basketball standouts and two guys who finished out their college careers here, head coaching against each other in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Yes it has been mentioned but it was worth mentioning again.

I'm not sure Eric Spoelstra was a "high-school standout".

How can you say that?
It's my opinion based on both seem to have the respect and connection with their players, enough so that they can asked even their stars to be accountable.

Rumor swirling that Ayton *refused* to go back in the game because he was upset they weren’t running plays for him lol

Apparrntly there was a back and fourth between him and Monty on the bench.

And some of u want to trade for him LOL

Well maybe they should have? They scored only 27 freaking points in the entire 1st half!

He's in the Jesuit High School Athletic Hall of Fame and was the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year in 1989 at the University of Portland.

He was not a highly sought after high school recruit as far as I know.

Yes! And I’ll be all over Chauncey to run the ball through him 7 of 10 times down the floor!

Well the teams he had success with were extremely balanced. Rip had higher usage than he did and Sheed had almost identical usage numbers to Chauncey and that's with Chauncey bringing the ball up, so in sets these guys had higher usage rates. I think Chauncey gets it, I just wonder if the vestiges of Neil Olshey can give Chauncey the right pieces to get the job done.
