OMG OMG OMG

The Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder came to terms on a trade Thursday evening, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Eight players in total will be involved, four from each team, as well as a 2025 second-round pick headed to Houston.

Houston gets:

  • Derrick Favors
  • Ty Jerome
  • Moe Harkless
  • Theo Maledon
  • 2025 second-round pick
Oklahoma City gets:

  • David Nwaba
  • Sterling Brown
  • Trey Burke
  • Marquese Chriss
Per Wojnarowski, the Thunder will accumulate two trade exceptions while moving well under the luxury tax, with the second-round pick compensating Houston for taking on extra salary.

My God! The Blazers are screwed.

It's basically you take our shitty players and we will take yours.

Blazers are 761K over the tax threshold so, as discussed her, getting under by the trade deadline will be relatively simple. I'd doubt that a backup Big will be added unless Keon is traded for one

Portland is carrying a trifecta of dead salary at this point:

(Louzada runs thru 2028-2029, IIRC)

it's not a lot, but 4.4M in dead salary this season and next is a significant limitation. Nicholson is the ghost of the stupid Allen Crabbe contract
Nicholson playing for the Bay Dragons in Asia still making 3 million a year from the Blazers? Wow?

I imagine he was paid off on that contract years ago. But the Blazers used the amnesty stretched the cap hit over 7 years, IIRC

to be accurate, I believe the Blazers paid Crabbe 37M for one year of below average production, then had to absorb a 7 year burden of 2.88M/year; all because they could not bring themselves to be smart and not match that idiot contract

im more upset about stretching the nicholson deal than i am matching crabbe's.

the stupidity was matching Crabbe's offer sheet. Nicholson was just olshey's way of mitigating his own idiocy. Nicholson still had nearly 7M/year in contract over the next 3 seasons when Portland traded for him. I'm not going to try and figure if that would have monkey-wrenched anything the Blazers did in those 3 seasons. Maybe not, because that 2016 off-season was a disaster in many different ways, not just Crabbe. Over 340M in contracts given out and not an all-star in sight. And Portland went from 44 wins with a Suburu payroll to 41 wins with a Cadillac payroll

I read recently that the Clippers have 195 million in salary.....and they haven't won or sniffed a ring....Balmer is bleeding money with that franchise.

Spending or bleeding? I imagine they're pretty profitable, being in the LA market, but a quick search didn't turn up any answers to that. However, I found some amusing, similar naysaying:

https://time.com/2800607/steve-ballmer-los-angeles-clippers-worth/

Summary: Balmer spent $2B on the team in '14, which Time figures was four times what the franchise was worth.

https://www.forbes.com/teams/los-angeles-clippers/

Summary: The team was worth $3.3B a year ago.

Also, Balmer is the richest owner in pro sports currently, with a net worth something like 6x what it was when he purchased the Clips. I've never understood how he's worth anything, let alone those kind of figures, when his fortune is all from driving Microsoft into the ground. I guess I'm guilty of doubting him, too. Sure seems like he knows what he's doing.

My friend saw Neil Olshey at the Greek fest earlier this evening. Surprised the guy is still in Portland, seemed like he wasn’t much of a fan of the city

That's hilarious. Sounded like he couldn't get on the plane soon enough. Maybe he was visiting friends.

I think his daughter is a senior at Lake Oswego. No reason to uproot her if he doesn't have to.

His kids told their friends he was taking a job in Texas. According to a post on here.

Greek fest is bomb though can’t blame him. Even though I think he’s just bifurcating.

If Lebron surpasses Kareem in points, Magic, maybe even Nash in assists and somehow take the Lakers all the way and is Finals MVP this season. Will he surpass MJ as the GOAT?

Could certainly make a case for it but there are those including me that might say no.

Damn, in 15-20 years from now watch out for the next wave of point guards from China in the NBA and WNBA.

More likely they'll be the over-lords and we'll all be working for them.

And their starters actually played half the game.

You guys see that the Suns got stomped by some rugby team from New Zealand!!??

First time an Australian team has ever beaten an NBA team, first time an NBA team has lost to a non NBA team since 2015.

Suns played their regular rotation for the first three quarters, 36ers lead the whole way.

36ers shot lights out, I was cackling like a madman for the last quarter, not quite believing what I was seeing.

I’m concerned the 36ers won’t be able to keep their import players (three per NBL team limit) for the whole season now.
