Would you tell Dame to his face how bad you think the team is? 100 bucks says nobody here would. If you were a player how would you want fans to support the team?
B-Roy asked me if we thought the team would make the playoffs after Greg and Przybilla went down….. I said no.

The thing is what you see as realistic many others here see as being negative. Most fans here hope for a good season from the Blazers, and maybe it's unrealistic on the other side of the spectrum, but hardcore fans tend to aim high in their hopes.

Maybe you are right. Maybe it won't be a good season for the Blazers. Maybe they will miss the playoffs. Who knows. But, it seems better to root for and predict success, then to openly predict and continuously espouse a negative outcome. It also seems unnecessary to criticize dreamful, outcomes adopted by others, even if they might be out of reach.
Nah man. That's your opinion. You have your right to that.

Fans that have relentless optimism are extremely annoying to some. May not be to you, but it absolutely is to me.

I think we all want to see the Blazers win. It is just pointless hoping for a strong run when it is impossible with the talent on our team to be contenders.

You just told me it’s better to predict success. Why? So I can get mad and scream and cuss on here every night we lose to a more talented team? Like 80% of this place. I[‘ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You can keep walking out to the garage thinking when it opens up there will be a Ferrari in there, but you are setting yourself up for a BIG letdown when you see it’s a KIA. The same dudes who think we will win 55 games and make a push in the playoffs are the same exact ones freaking out on here…and you’re telling me my low bar I set is WORSE than dealing with their horse shit? Check yourself MOD.

Maybe that's not as bad as basically saying they are shit every night.

Why? Who cares if someone wants to be extremely optimistic? What's wrong with that? Is it unrealistic...sure probably...oh well.

Who cares if someone tries to be more realistic with the team? Anyone overtly optimistic. We get labeled haters because we aren't drinking the kool-aid and have seen this play out over and over again the same way.

People keep giving me shit because I am claiming this roster is only talented enough for the 10th spot in the west. I’m just explaining myself. I just had a member on here tell me that it’s better to predict that we are going to be better than I think we are…. Had to reply.
You keep saying "people.." and "a member on here...." Call the individuals out. You're complaining about a lot of talk that isn't even happening. There are many different views on the team in this forum.

the same way? CJ is gone, Stotts is gone, Olshey is gone. This is an entirely NEW way.

Not enough talent around Dame. We have no 2nd star.
I think Jerami Grant is as good of an all around player as CJ and he's a better complement to Dame... he's also been really good in the preseason not that too much should be read into that. I also think Ant can be more effective in the same role CJ played next to Dame than CJ was. I think Nurk still has his best ball in front of him even if it's not perfectly suited for today's NBA. I think we have a bunch of good role players in Hart, Winslow and Nas who have (like Dame) looked like absolute shit in the preseason. I don't know what the timeline on Shaedon is or how fast he'll ascend to being an impact player but I think it's a pretty solid bet he'll be one a lot quicker than Ant was. Our lack of depth behind Nurk is frightening, especially since the depth behind Grant is small. We also haven't seen how GP2 will help things but he was great last season so it's fair to think he will help things.

We don't have enough talent, especially not enough with diverse and relevant skill sets to be contenders, that's for sure but when have we been able to say that we did? I think as shitty as this team has looked in the preseason that it's just as good as any of the Dame/CJ teams or at least has as much talent on it. At least one move has to be made so we have at least one impact big off of the bench otherwise we will have a hard time staying in games against teams with well built rosters. If that happens this team could compete for home court advantage but unless Shaedon has a meteoric rise this season and we're able to package other guys to get another star in here, we won't be contending but when have we?

This isn't the same treadmill but we are in the same position (no worse) than we were the nine seasons before last. We'll be a playoff team that struggles to get out of the first round and will take a miracle to get out of the second. I know we don't look like that in these preseason games but that's what I think we are and I don't think that's even a little delusional.

Yep. I think we are a play-in team. Yippee. We need to get Dame a 2nd star.

I don’t. Go back and look. During the course of a season, I’m NOT shocked they looked like shit. I expected it bro. Your 55 win guys are the ones that fucking freak out every night. Check your facts.

Better to be hopeful
According to who exactly? Setting yourself up for a letdown. If that’s your game, play it.
I as a kid didn’t get shot from my parents. Taught me real quick to not hope for things I wouldn’t get. Plan on not, and there’s no letdown. In my opinion, that’s how you play it.

You see it how you see it. I'll see it how I see it.

Never said you were shocked about it. If people want to think we can 55 games let them. I'm thinking mid forties. That's not that unrealistic.

Being realistic is fine. Constantly shitting on the team is a bit much...more annoying to me than being over enthusiastic about the odds.

I've had a lot of great things happen in my life because I was positive and hopeful. Do you know how hard it is to get cast in a Broadway show? Took me 5 years of near misses to get there. And after 4 straight years of booking zero TV work, I booked "Bones" because I was hopeful and stayed in the game. Most people would've quit about 2 years into my career back in 1997 when I had absolutely nothing. If you're scared of a letdown, you're gonna miss a lot of fun. Maybe the most exciting moment of my career was when I got my second callback for JCS on Broadway. I hadn't been cast yet but my husband and I celebrated and dreamed of how amazing it would be if I actually got cast. Even if I hadn't been cast, that day was so much fun. I'm glad I enjoyed it. "Realistic" people never would've stuck around to have the career I've had. Take that advice for what it's worth. Your life isn't over yet.

I’ve been realistic my whole life and won multiple Emmys. What’s your point kid?

I already made my point. A realistic person in my position would’ve quit before achieving what I did. Have you aimed for a much higher level job in your career? Or are you just happy with what you have? Not sure what Emmys have to do with it.
