Around the NBA - April 2017

Bennett wouldn't be a good NBA choice. His and his dad's offense have always been low scoring move the ball around a ton to find the open guy. I remember at WSU watching him win games with his team scoring the low 40's. Shit, I remember watching 33 seconds of passing until a shot under Dick Bennett. They are good defensive minds though.

I think a guy like Dana Altman would be better suited toward the NBA.
Passing the ball would've helped us in the fourth quarter on Saturday.

We need to do what Utah just did. Play BETTER in the fourth quarter when the game is on the line. At home, we should punch GS in the mouth in the fourth quarter. We can still win this series but it starts with Game 4. Get that one and go from there. Not impressed with Warriors at all. I feel a Crabbe shooting show coming on.

Are you serious when you say that we can still win the series? Like win 4 games in a row against Warriors?

On a coaching change.....I think Terry is fine, but Neil needs to let him know bottom of the league in defense won't cut it again. Maybe change or add a defensive specialist?
I agree that the defense needs to improve. Think it has more to do with personnel.

Here's our defense ranks over the last few years:
14-15: 9th
15-16: 13th
16-17: 24th
this season after AS game: 10th

Clearly personnel has a lot to do with this. The big drop from last year to the beginning of this year is staggering though. Did Gerald make that big of an impact?

I would argue those stats show that personnel is NOT the issue. We can at least be average with the group we have.

Passing has been one of the things that have frustrated me most about the Blazers over the last few years.

Blazers are very lackadaisical about passes. One handed hook passes, passes to the knees of a teammate, among other issues. Blazers have a mindset that "if the ball gets to the person, then it's a good pass". Dame is a big offender here. We suck at making precise and crisp passes. When you watch the Warriors play, every pass is crisp and right on target where the next guy can move with the ball. Most of our passes are lethargic and off-target, causing the guy receiving the pass to take an extra 1/2-second to handle it before they can move.

When the defensive pressure gets turned up, Blazers can't make a pass - as shown in the 4th quarter.

I am simultaneously amazed and disgusted watching the Warriors pass the ball, because I can't understand why we can't implement something similar. It needs to be a priority, and it clearly isn't.

I think it all goes back to coaching standards. I think Stotts lets a lot of "little things" slide in the name of being a players coach. That can work for a while, but eventually the details do matter!

Blake Griffin going down again in the playoffs is a brutal blow. He's easily a max player if he stays healthy, but he never is. Going into FA this summer.

I'd be wary of us going after him since he's Neil's guy-- glad we don't have any caproom.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is establishing himself as arguably the best trash-talker in the NBA.

“I absolutely love it,” Green told ESPN after the Warriors overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday 119-113 and take a commanding 3-0 series lead. “I’ve been doing this for a very long time. There’s an art to trash-talking.”

Green finished the evening with an impressive stat line of nine points, eight rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a game-high six blocks, but his verbal psychological edge was just as effective.

Maurice Harkless has been on the receiving end of the two-time All-Star’s verbal taunts this series, and it appears to be working.

Green does his homework.

Harkless obtained a $500,000 bonus for shooting 35 percent or higher from 3-point distance this season. How he earned the extra cash made headlines. With four games remaining in the regular season, he was stuck at 35.1 percent. He cleverly didn’t attempt a 3-pointer in the final three games he played, securing the bonus.

Knowing this factoid, Green used it to his advantage. At one point during Game 2, while he was guarding Harkless along the perimeter, Green baited his opponent to hoist a 3.

“You ain’t gonna shoot it. You’re still chasing that petty-ass change,” Green yelled to Harkless, sources told ESPN.

He's a poser. If the league actually cracked down on him, he would be suspended constantly.

If he were on any other team, he'd lead the league in fouls, flagrant fouls, and technicals... he'd probably have been drummed out of the league as uncoachable.

It still blows my mind that he was able to smack an official in the series against us last year, the official started bleeding, and he got nothing. Not a technical, not a fine..... nothing.

Meanwhile, ET got a technical for tossing the ball to the official after getting fouled.

Petty ass change...such a phony! He got all bent out of shape when Barnes didn't sign a contract extension from the Warriors at the beginning of last season because he knew he could get a higher contract, which he did (64 mil became 94 mil). Green got all pissy with him and gave him crap for not signing. Green was jealous of the money Barnes was gonna get.

It never ceases to amaze me how much you will bitch about. Calling that a smack and hyping it up with bleeding when it was just a swinging arm at the end of a play and little more than a high five...grow up.

hahahaahahahahahhahahhahahahahahaha

Seriously though, they had to stop the game..... because the ref was bleeding...... from the "high five" lol

Plus if it were an accident why didn't he turn around to see if Ken Mauer was alright after he realized that he had made contact with him?

Regardless of whether it was an accident, he was throwing a tantrum. 99% of the time if you hit a ref during a tantrum that's a tech and possibly an ejection. It's not like he accidentally fell into him while chasing a ball. As BC said, ET got a tech for tossing the ball backwards after HE was fouled.
