Too bad FiveThirtyEight already has their Carmelo ratings. This stat could also be named after him.

This stat apparently does not favor inefficient chuckers who don't play defense. Sounds like my kind of stat.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that show how freaking valuable Nurk is on defense? He crushes everyone else on the team in DPS.

So bizarre that after 75 games, and nearly 2000 minutes of playing time, Nurk's OPA and DPS EXACTLY cancel out, right down to the 1/100th of a point.

Westbrook's OPA looks about right, for a high volume low efficiency chucker. However his DPS doesn't pass the eye test. He doesn't even guard anyone. He rarely even bothers to contest a 3-pointer, yet if you believe this stat, he should be in the running for first team all defense. No fucking way.

We still don't have a meaningful way to measure defensive performance. All of the advanced stats we have are highly influenced by teammates, opponents, etc. They have gotten better, but there are still too many outliers that don't correlate with reality.

Unless, you believe Russell Westbrook (DPS = 169.11) is a better defender than Rudy Gobert (DPS = 152.54).

I remember this forum after we beat Houston in round 1.
The Spurs were still battling Dallas and everyone wanted the Spurs because we went 4-0 or something in the regular season against them.
I said that's just dumb. Spurs are a different animal in the playoffs, that we should want Dallas.
I was told by the majority I was wrong.
Only one person owned up to being wrong after the Spurs 4-1'd us.

With that said. Spurs don't have Duncan, Manu is a shell of himself, and Parker isn't as explosive.
Gasol would worry me, but Aldridge doesn't.
Frankly I think Nurk would cause too many problems for the Spurs.

But point is moote. Spurs & Utah will match up with one another in round 1.
