If you think you can contend for a championship then I think you should swing for the fences. History is littered with examples of teams that looked like they would be in the finals for years to come and then things happen. OKC 4 years ago, everyone thought they would be in the finals tons more times but they haven't been to the finals since and now that franchise might lose its best player this year and its second best player next year. Hell look at us 8 years ago with Roy/Oden/LMA, it looked like we had a dynsty brewing and then injuries fucked us over. The Celtics with Allen/Peirce/Garnett looked like a dynsty but injuries at wrong times ment they only got 1 ring when you could have argued that they should have gotten 2 or 3 at least.
It doesn't' always work but anything can happen that could ruin a championship run so if its in your sites take a swing for it imo.
The problem with 'swing for it' is usually team make an addition they know is stupid. Most said the Warriors needed to make such a play trading for Love instead of keeping Thompson. Most thought the Spurs were too old 5 years ago and needed to rebuild. Most thought Dallas could never win with Dirk leading a team because he had so many playoff failures.
Iggy was one of the prized jewels of that free agency year. The others were dwight howard, chris paul(who nobody thought would actually leave) and andrew bynum.Okay, I can see that. I'd still say GSW is more the "cake baking". Iggy was sought after, but wasn't the #1 if I believe.
ouch...I think it was us that backed outHell, we could have gotten Thompson for LMA. Didn't GSW back out of that... or was it us?
it was in their fight milk!Didn't they do that in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"?
I've never seen that show

truly a great show

All those teams made some pretty big gambles though. Mavs traded Harris who looked like he might be a budding star for an aging Kidd and then don't forget there biggest acquisition was hiring Carlise in 08 and then trading nothing for Tyson Chandler. The problem with 'swing for it' is usually team make an addition they know is likely stupid with a remote chance of success. Than they do more such gambles. The result is never good. Most said the Warriors needed to make such a play trading for Love instead of keeping Thompson. The Knicks recent history is filled with 'swing for it' moves and it never works.
When teams don't win there's a strong impulse to do something to fix it. If anything NBA history has shown us teams with patience and fewer changes win the most.
I'm gonna be honest... I've watched It's always sunny several times to try to get into it... and I guess it's like Arrested Development for me... I could never find the humor in it. I have quite an eclectic sense-of-humor... but those two shows never appealed to me.
Marketers care hugely about that sort of thing.

Spurs made a trade for Leonard which at the time was seen as a gamble since no one knew Leonard would blossom into the player he is otherwise there is no way he goes 14th. Warriors are the warriors and the trade for Love looks like a great turn down now but if they only win one championship are people still thinking the same thing in 5 years?
Swinging for the fences isn't a great strategy especially in some cases but I don't mind it because of how hard championships are to get and how often one of a few things happens can screw up a team for years just as much as missing on your swing can do as well. I'm just saying I don't mind it at all and get why teams do it, infact I wont' even bash on a team if they think they had a shot and took it.
For what? To put watermelon flavored soda in the stadium?
I happen to think that watermelon flavored soda is delicious!
Watermelon flavor I guess is ok. But I certainly don't fit the stereotype. I hate real watermelon.
I never knew someone could hate real watermelon lol it's just.. The perfect summer treatWatermelon flavor I guess is ok. But I certainly don't fit the stereotype. I hate real watermelon.
Brooklyn is a bad example because that wasn't' swinging for the fences that was just plain flat dumb. As for Houston they only lost Parsons because of the Bosh thing, Parsons doesn't' make there team much better then they are now especially with how injured he has been. Houston is in trouble because of Harden and to a lesser extent Howard.I'll bash the hell out of the rockets. They were just dumb.
As far as GSW... winning a 'ship and then getting 73 wins is already gonna cement them. The league will do all it can to get them the 'ship this year, too. The narrative has to happen.
Swinging for the fences puts you in purgatory longer than re-tooling, I think. Because most of those swings involve draft picks (like brooklyns case) or tied up money (Houston with Bosh, etc.)

Houston I cannot understand its just so... so awesome. Clutchfans tears are still so sweet even years later.
I think white people made up the stereotype that black people like watermelon because they liked watermelon and just wanted to look like they were down - co-opting culture through the dissemination of false stereotypes.Watermelon flavor I guess is ok.
