Study reveals link between quality of sleep and risk of dementia
NEW YORK -- About a third of adults say they don't usually get enough sleep. Now, there's news of a link between the quality of sleep and the risk of dementia.

A new study takes a look at rapid eye movement sleep (REM), or the period when a person dreams.

There are four stages in the sleep cycle. In stage one, sleep is very light, and it progresses to deep sleep in stage three. After that, there's REM sleep, which usually occurs four to five times over eight hours as your sleep cycle repeats.

In the study, as the amount of REM sleep declined, the risk of dementia increased. The study looked at 321 people over age 60.

There is increasing evidence that toxins accumulate in the brain during the day, but are cleaned out when we're asleep -- sort of like a garbage collecting function -- and these include things like amyloid, which is linked to Alzheimer's.

It's not clear exactly when during the sleep cycle it occurs, but it's a very exciting new area of research.

Research continues, however, on whether sleep deprivation can actually cause dementia. But, we do know that changes in the brains of people with Alzheimer's begin decades before symptoms are noticed.

So at the very least, testing people for sleep problems might be a useful screening test for picking up dementia sooner -- rather than later.

Damn... I only sleep 6 hours a night. Sometimes less.

You got something against being ridiculous?

I read every KingSpeed post I can get my hands on. I can't keep my hands off his post.

He's just being funny. Never succeeding, but he tries, and that's what counts. Good guy.

No he’s being serious

@KingSpeed doesnt know hoops. He’s more of a casual fan which isn’t bad at all.

But he doesn’t have hoops knowledge or anything like that as u can tell with his comments so u can’t take him serious

Look let's be real. Warriors are jumpshooting team. Live by three, die by three. Curry never hits the big shot in a big game. Fuck, Kevin Love was able to shut him down in 2016.

Yes, let's be real. Please, let's.

The Warriors are a jump shooting team with two members of the exclusive 50/40/90 club. There have only been seven players in the history of the NBA to post a 50/40/90 season, and the Warriors have two of the seven members of that club.

And, in addition to having two of the greatest shooters in the history of the game, the also have the guy who holds the NBA record for points in a quarter at 37, and scored 60 points in 29 minutes last year. Think about that. Their THIRD option on offense is capable of scoring 37 points in a quarter and 60 points in 29 minutes. Those are video game numbers, which I thought you'd appreciate as you seem to know more about video games than the real thing.

So yeah, they are a jump shooting team, the greatest jump shooting team in the history of the world, and its not even close. Plus, they have had one top defenses in the league the last three seasons. A FACT that often gets overlooked due to their immense offensive talent.

Yes, they will make the playoffs, yes, they will win their division and the Western Conference. They will have the best regular season record in the NBA for the fourth year in a row. They will make it back to the finals, and barring serious injury, they will win their third title in four years.

How's that for keeping it real?

No, no, no no. This guy attacks other posters if they don't agree with him! He throws out 25 of the most unrealistic predictions or opinions and if ONE happens to be partially right, he will bring it up for years while cracking on others for not thinking the way he does.
I in a joking manner talk shit about having sex with your sister and I'M the one always on blast. This guy ain't all there. Golden State won't make the playoffs......GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE WITH THAT. #64Wins

I took one for the team. I know you have him on ignore. So, I quoted him so you could see what he's babbling about.

You're welcome.

I don't have anybody on ignore. No reason you shouldn't be able to read everybody opinion on here if you ask me. He's the one that has ME on ignore. Starts threads weeks early cause he can't see threads I start HA!

He's been on Olshey's wish list for years.

He was on his wishlist for one summer. Monroe has been on the trade block for awhile now (before we got Nurkic.) The opportunities were there to acquire him. I’d still like him as a backup on an expiring contract, but I think the Monroe ship sailed a long time ago.

Damn.....this explains A LOT......

You're right it does

The Sleep Habits Of Highly Successful People

Sleep is a much-coveted enterprise. And as researchers learn more and more about its purpose – and the fallout of not getting enough – the importance of getting a good night’s sleep becomes even clearer. A new study by Johns Hopkins researchers shows that there’s a difference between sleep that’s long but interrupted and sleep that’s short but sound. As you might guess, it’s better for the brain to sleep for a shorter number of uninterrupted hours than a longer number of fitful ones.

"When your sleep is disrupted throughout the night,” says study lead author Patrick Finan, “you don't have the opportunity to progress through the sleep stages to get the amount of slow-wave sleep that is key to the feeling of restoration."

He and his team had people come into the sleep lab and get a full night's sleep, stay up late so their total sleep would be reduced, or be subject to multiple interruptions throughout the night. It turned out that after the second night a pattern emerged: the people who’d had interrupted sleep reported significantly reduced positive moods the next day than people in the short-but-uninterrupted group. They had lower energy levels, and reduced ratings of positive feelings like sympathy and friendliness.

Not only do the results apply to “healthy” people, but they're very likely to apply to those who sleep poorly as a matter of course. One in ten people has insomnia, and if you're one of them, you probably don’t need scientific studies to know how much it takes its toll, especially over time. Previous studies have shown that both too few and too many hours of sleep are linked to a number of health problems over time, and even to early mortality. There seems to be a sweet spot for sleep -- about seven hours, give or take, depending on the individual -- and too far outside of this window, in either direction, can indicate underlying problems.

Below are the sleep habits of 21 highly successful people throughout history (the original graphic can be viewed here). Not everyone keeps "normal" hours, as is shown, but it's important to do what feels right for you, tweaking your pattern as needed. Since sleep is right up there with nutrition and exercise in terms of its role in health, make sure to give it the attention it deserves. If you can't get as many hours as you need at night, it's totally legit to take a nap, and many experts even recommend it. Here are some more healthy sleep tips from the National Sleep Foundation.

I wouldn’t waste my time explaining that to kingspeed

Disregard Meyers here (or don't, if you're so inclined), this lineup of Shabazz, Dame, CJ, Aminu, and Ed would murder teams in the third quarter. I want to see this lineup get some run soon.
