Agreed. I miss having the Sonics close by and their move was a disaster. On top of that, they have made the smartest of moves and have set themselves up for seemingly forever. I have never enjoyed dynasties and it feels like we’re about to see one.

They might win a few titles, but I don't think they're set up forever (I know that's hyperbole). The same reason why the Warriors are now just a mediocre team, will happen to the Thunder. Payroll and lux tax are real shit.

But the Thunder still have SO many picks to play with. I don’t remember a team ever having such a stockpile of attractive assets. On top of that, they seem to have a system that makes everyone look good. It makes me wonder if players like Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe and Ajay Mitchell would have the same success elsewhere.

as far as age, the Warriors won their last title when Curry was 34 while Klay and Draymond were 32

for OKC....SGA is 27, Jalen Williams 24, Holmgren 23, Dort 26, Wallace 22, Mitchell 23, Hartenstein 27. So, going by ages at least, the window for an OKC dynasty seems 7-9 years long, not counting last season

but you're right about tax and aprons. Somehow, right now, OKC is 1M below the tax line with a 187M payroll. But next season, when the 46M/year each extensions for Holmgren and Williams kick in, OKC will be 23M ABOVE the 2nd apron with a payroll of 246M. The estimated tax bill alone will be 181M. Patroll + Tax will be around 427M. I don't know how wealthy the OKC owner is but I'd imagine he views that as unsustainable

it gets slightly better in the 2027-28 season but only because Hartenstein, Dort, and Kenrich Williams are UFA. The offset is that is the year SGA's 4-year extension starts at about 70M/year, So yeah, OKC is facing losing critical players but still be floating around the 2nd apron, or higher

the one way that OKC can add talent and actually cut payroll is the draft, and Presti's front office has been masterful at collecting picks an evaluating talent:

they have no outgoing picks by themselves

They've had some amazing successes (Jalen Williams and now Ajay Mitchell), but they've also had some whiffs - remember Pokusevski? And they traded up into the first round to take Dillon Jones then cut him loose the very next year. Also, while Giddey is doing well for Chicago and they got Caruso for him, he didn't work for them very well at all. Oh yeah, there's also Ousmane Dieng, who was a mid-first-rounder who is now a fringe player for them. So Presti is not infallible.

even "masterful" is going to have misses. Nature of the draft. Having 13 first round picks in the next 7 drafts is masterful, even with 3 of them being swaps. This allows for some misses but also allows for some home runs

they had to make a choice with Giddey. He was eligible for an extension when they traded him and they knew they weren't going to be able to afford his extension. They also knew they could not really maximize his talent because there wasn't room for two ball dominant players in the rotation. Caruso was a much better complement to the OKC roster

it's actually possible they could have 3 lottery picks in this draft, although the Utah pick is iffy with top-8 protections. Pretty probably that Ainge will try and make sure Utah is top-8

it's been two fucking games ya doofus....settle down for chrissakes

he's had 20 assists and 3 turnovers...a 6.67 assist/turnover ratio

* Cade Cunningham had a THREE game stretch with 36 assists and 4 turnovers....a 9.0 assist/turnover ratio
* Jokic had THREE game stretch with 39 assists and 4 turnovers....a 9.75 assist/turnover ratio
Yeah you’re right, You just compared him to 2 of the most dominating players in the game, I probably shouldn’t be impressed by a guy in his 40s accomplishing this. My bad. Back to your scheduled hate.

no...what you did was insanely over-react to two fucking games. If you want to gargle Lebron's balls 24/7 that's your right; gargle away! But when you gargle in public, like in this thread, people may flick some shit your direction. I was doing you a favor and giving you a heads up so you could put on a raincoat before the shit storm arrived

by the way, it wasn't just dominating players. Evan Turner had a 2 game stretch when he had 21 assists and 3 turnovers. So he had a better assist/turnover ratio than Lebron and did it while collecting triple-doubles in those two games

in one season alone Dame had a 2 game stretches of 20 & 2; 21 & 2; both better than Lebron (including a 51 point game); and a 3-game stretch of 31 & 3 for an assist/turnover ratio of 10.3 (compared to Lebron's 6.7) (and it included a 51 and 48 point game); and another. The following season he had a 3 game stretch of 22 & 1; if you can't do the math that's an assist/turnover ratio of 22.0 compared to Lebron's 6.7

So this isn’t a good thing that he’s done? You said I was acting “insanely”?

So is this bad too? Help me out or am I acting insane again?

I thought this was the around the nba thread where we can discuss topics from around the league

right, and we're discussing them

what I'm saying in a response to your post is that pointing at a 2 game sample size is kind of crazy. A lot of players have done better in such a small sample size. I pointed out 4

Imagine if they got 1, 2 and 3. It'd be like the Celtics getting Len Bias! Or the Pistons getting Darko!
