According to ESPN.com Ron Artest has requested a trade, preferably to the Knicks. Thoughts?

he said that he just wants a trade now
but he would prefer one to knicks or cavs
and he said he does not mind coming off the bench as a back-up for LBJ

he also said that after his contract is up (in 2 years) his first choice will be the knicks as he wants to return to his hometown.

Damn, man I love Ron Artest...that guy is by far the coolest guy in the league, I would totally worship Isiah Thomas if he gets Artest here

I like Artest, too. He’s from New York and he was a St. John's Red Storm. We should’ve drafted him instead of Weis, but that’s a different story. Anyway, there’s a very slim chance we’ll end up getting Artest. The only possible scenario I could think of is along the lines of Richardson and Davis for Artest, Croshere and Bender. That’s not fair for the Pacers and they would be better off getting someone like Odom or Peja. Artest is really just too underpaid for us to really work with his contract.

Edit: How about this for a better trade:
Antonio Davis, Penny Hardaway, and S.A.'s first rounder for Steve Francis and Grant Hill? The Magic save tons of money and they get rid of a headache in Francis, and an injury-plagued player in Grant Hill.

^ And I highly doubt Indiana wants to trade him to an Eastern Conference team.

If Artest somehow landed in NY I'd be one happy guy, I've always liked NY sometimes more and sometimes less but none the less back on topic Artest would be a great addition to the Knicks.

If the Knicks get Ron Artest it will most def put them over the top. He plays 110% every game thats what we need plus the SF spot is wide open. We the Knicks get him I will be happy if not then its ok.

even as a pacer fan i would do this deal in a second.its too good to pass up we get rid of tinsleys contract although we lose his floor leadership. i dont like the fact that aj is involved though i think that gill should replace him in the deal.a front court of jo and curry wow and if one of them gets injured then frye is right there to start.yeah i would say yes.

the most obvious deal to me because of artest low salary is

Mike Dunleavy + Ike Diogu for Ronald Artest

works for both teams, indiana get 2 players than can contibute along with danny granger at the SF position

golden state get an upgrade at sf and the defensive presence the team so badly needs, a 1-2-3 of bdiddy, jrich and artest dont sound bad either.

That might be one of the worst trades proposals I have ever seen, I don't know how you seem to make sense of it. Ron Artest is above and beyond both of those players, they don't even come close.

Do you honestly believe indiana can get another all star back in return for a complete lunatic who is just as likely to request a trade 2 months after arriving,or some other major indiscretion.??

Artest is a lot harder to move than you may imagine, this deal is a good deal, diogu was a 9th pick in the draft and dunleavy is a solid contibutor with a team orientated attitude (unlike ron),they may have to throw some cash or a pick in but the basis is rock solid

what all star with a 30 million contract can u trade him for???

While I agree that Indiana can't get equal value for Artest, Dunleavy can't be traded because he just signed an extention and has poison pill status...

could u imagine if the warriors pulled that off.
they`d be like the nets with real big men, troy murphy is a very underrated player, foyle is so-so,but with bd,jrich, artest, murphy, foyle they would be a team you would`nt want to play in the playoffs

I think you're highly underestimating Artest, who says he just wants a fresh start with the fans because a lot of people in Indiana don't like him. Even if the Clippers got Artest, they'd have to give up a a big part of their bench in either jaric or simmons along with a starter, probably Murphy. I doubt Indiana would take anything less.

you mean cassell?
but hm an artest-> cassell deal would not be bad actually
cassell''s contract expires by the end of this season
and this also allows clips to start shaun livingston

They're so many teams with better offers than this. It's not like Artest is a free agent next year; his contract expires in four years. We don't have what Indiana wants either. If Artest cools his attitude a bit, and is still good enough to play good defense, maybe we can talk about this in 2008-09.

JARIC plays for the Timberwolves

SIMMONS plays for Milwaukee

MURPHY plays for the Warriors

You want to trade all these players from the clippers??

HELP !

YESSSSSSSSSSS

Let's move on from the personal attacks, the poster made a mistake and conceded to it. The lesson learned today, video games are bad for your awareness of the real world.

I thought CMaggs trade idea made a lot of sense, but I'm not sure the Clippers are ready to break up the chemistry they have going. Brand and CMaggs have a very strong relationship as teammates at Duke and their last 5 or so seasons as Clippers. Plus the Clippers drafted their future SF in Yaroslav Korolev, and Mike Dunleavy Jr. is the wrong coach for Artest. (ie Rasheed Wallace, Jermaine O'neal)

Interesting trade scenario j0se. It's not a bad trade for either team, but can you imagine how QRich would feel if he gets another life changing experience after his brother just died. "Sorry to hear about your brother, by the way you've just been traded again." Pretty cold, I'm not sure if New Yorks wants that type of PR right now. Also I don't think Larry Bird wants anything to do with helping out Isiah Thomas. I also don't think he wants any part of making Artest happy with the way Artest took his demands public instead of handling it "in house." Adding Artest to the Knicks puts them one step closer to making it back to the playoffs.

I wouldn't be surprised if Artest is sent somewhere he's going to hate, maybe the Hawks for Al Harrington. I know Harrington made sure not to burn any bridges in Indiana and he's familiar with the players. He can fit right into the mix and replace Artest at SF. The only downside, is the Pacers don't have any money to re-sign him unless Atlanta takes a bad contract along with Artest. Hard to see Atlanta agreeing to that.

Another bad franchise, the Raptors might be a destination for Artest. Joey Graham would really benefit from Artest mentoring him. Mo Pete + Rights to Roko for Artest? I know the Pacers were high on Roko during the draft. Mo Pete gives them a solid scorer and adequate defender. Possible roadblock could be Artest refusing to report. You know he's more than capable of just never showing up to Toronto and the Raptors would have another Alonzo Mourning situation to deal with.

Actually if Jose trade went down, their is not a bone in my body that doesnt say Anthony Johnson would definately start over Jamal Crawford in a Larry Brown system. AJ is probably the closet thing Larry Brown can get to an Eric Snow type pg without getting Snow, himself.

AJ in the starting lineup is what would allow Marbury to move to the scoring guard spot and realistic not have to be over concerned with ball handling duties. Also the addition of Anthony Johnson would actually now put a strong defender in that backcourt....if the Knicks were to make that type of a deal work it defi would change the atlantic division..and as a Nets fan...I would have to admit, it would put the Knicks in the divisional drivers seat, just about. Not only because of the players you are getting with Ron Artest and a quality roll guy like AJ....but because this type of deal finally lets Stephon Marbury truely focus on his strong point, which is being a scorer. Right now, Steph has to much else to focus on nightly, like being the only creator for others on the floor, most of the time. And also sadly enough he has been put in the position of having to guard teams best perimeter scorers almost every night....so having to work in those other areas leads to the inconsistency in his own offensive game..but I think this type of trade changes that.

Isiah won't trade Frye, and I doubt we'll be able to wiggle Artest away from Indiana without including him into the deal. Oh well, we can wait like we did for Curry

I think Artest basically doesn't want to be a focal point responsible for winning. He wants to come off the bench, chill, work on his albums, play a little ball, that's it. That's why he said come off the bench for LeBron. - no pressure, he would be a role player 6th man type. And in New York, there is no pressure cause they suck and there are no expectations. But i think New York would not be as nice for him as he thinks. LB's not going to be a fun guy to go on 'cruise control' with. If you want to punish Artest, send him to Dallas and have Avery Johnson riding him. Dallas is a long way from Queensbridge.
