As....without the k before a pronoun
Ask before a vowel
Ax is what I expect hillbillies to say (you know, people from outside the Portland metro area).
I want to as you, are you making stuff up or are you serious? Never heard of any such rule before.
barfo
Not making it up. I'm an English Major. It is still spelled ask either way. It is pronounced differently depending on sentence structure. And, I must apologize. The first pronunciation is before a consonant not a pronoun.
That makes a bit more sense, at least. I have to say I've never observed anyone omitting the k in ask in front of a consonant. I know I don't. Have/do you?
barfo
I do\have...if I am talking fast. Generally, the word ask is spoken faster when it sits before a consonant, and therefore is pronounced as instead of ask, probably without most people even noticing they do it.
If a pussy had the power to shrink itself...what would you axe it?
I just say "fuck."
Ok. I do not speak fast, and I enunciate each syllable clearly. I believe rapid speech is the devil's work, and I will not be party to it.

I've always said ask.

Maybe you have a speech impediment.
I find nothing anywhere to suggest it is proper to ever pronounce ask with a silent k, nor have I ever heard it pronounced that way in all my life.
Bet you can't say that three times fast...Ok. I do not speak fast, and I enunciate each syllable clearly. I believe rapid speech is the devil's work, and I will not be party to it.

I often pronounce the t in "often". I also occasionally pronounce the l in "walk". I also say "eye"-ther instead of "ee"-ther and pronounce all four syllables of "comfortable" (as opposed to the "comf-ter-bull" that most of you neanderthals use).Sly pronounces "roof" like ruff ruff.
What really pisses me off is people who pronounce "route" like rout, not root. We used to debate that in 3rd grade in Iowa. But what REALLY gets me is people who pronounce "often" with the t. That sends me through the roof.

Nobody axed me, but I figured I'd share.

It's okay, everyone's a little weird. For example, I pronounce it "meeessage bowurd." Also, "Olshee." Also, "Aw, fooouk."
