Astronauts and manned Mars Exploration

Welcome to our community

I hope we go. Space exploration is important, in my opinion. Who knows, maybe one day we'll need to leave this rock.

i wouldnt but a basement full of my clones would

The speed of light is a factor in decent/proper internet connections today. The round trip at speed of light between SF and DC is on the order of 40 1/1000ths of a second. Via Internet it's typically longer because there's not a straight network link between the two.

Round trip times to the moon are on the order of 3 seconds. To Mars? 8 minutes when it's at its closest point, 40 minutes when it's on the opposite side of the sun from us.

Proper Internet. LOL.

Or how about NBA teams on other planets?

Why do you think Paul Allen is investing in SETI and rocket ships so much? The Blazers will be the first team with a 11ft tall, 6 armed, 400lb alien for center!

a 4 minute video update I found worth my time. Its in the president's budget and congress has given the mandate to launch a manned mission to mars by 2033. It is one of the presidents policies I can get firmly on board for. maybe an area for bipartisan agreement and certainly an opportunity to develop new technologies and manufacturing jobs. our universities already produce some of the future greats in engineering, better to keep them here benefitting our own economy I say. common goal oriented politics would be nicer than the "their kind" discussions of the present.

The question is:::Would you be picked to leave the planet if you were not rich?

i'll be way past recruitment age, hell way past retirement age. will we set up on the moon first, as in a base station? or can we even maybe start colonizing?
mining?

Would you live on the moon if given the chance?

For how long? The rest of my life? Eating freezed dried meatloaf paste would get tiring.

Putting a base on the moon is far more important. The lower gravity would really help Oden's and Roy's careers.

We will build a base on the moon before a man steps on mars.

I can see tactical advantages to bases on the moon but how about profitable?

I read something somewhere sometime about propellants for the engines of the time being source able on the moon. have we advanced past that already?

A base, perhaps. There may be some value in that for repeat missions or something. But I think the first habitat we create will be on Mars. There's nothing on the moon worth inhabiting it for.

To get off of this planet, I plan to make acquaintances with Elon Musk.

Mining? Maybe they'll find a portal to the red planet, Some Ghosts of Mars shit. It will also be a Refueling station for space shuttles going to mars. Eventually it will lead to the Enterprise being built. Right? It has to.

the portal won't be to mars but to a galaxy far. far away.

I'm not sure about that. I do know current spaceshuttles burn most of their fuel to reach escape velocity and enter space. They will need to refuel once out of Earths orbit in order to reach mars.

I've heard about attempts to harness solar power as an alternative power source for space shuttles.

and solar sails on a somewhat similar vein. i'm not smart or current enough to talk about ion drives though the early talks showed promise.
