At #43, Blazers select Rayan Rupert

You're setting yourself for disappointment if you want Rayan to reach Giannis level. If he can be Bruce Bowen or Shane Battier, we should be happy
buzzkill....it's fun to speculate..no need to water down my exaggerated projections! I've been a Blazer fan since 77....disappointments don't faze me.

Rups with a solid game today. I think he has benefited and improved the most with his stint for the Remix. Looks like a totally different player than from Summer League. Hoping he’ll have more run with the Blazers in the 2nd half of the season.

Hopefully, he will spend the next couple of summers with Scoot in the weight room. He is young and eventually will fill out, but the sooner the better.

He looks pretty good. 16 rebounds at SF is impressive. I know he was recovering from a wrist injury that affected his predraft rankings and cratered his 3P% but looks like he's fully recovered.

Glad there’s more good news on Rupert.

Man, that 3pt shot is starting to look good. There really isn’t anything a defender can do against a deadly shooter, especially if he has a 7’3 wingspan.

Would love to see him on the floor with Camara. I think we should bring him over soon to get another look.

I think we'll see a lot of Rupert after the trade deadline if we trade our vets.

The buzz Coward generated with his wingspan…

What would they be saying about Rupert?

6’7”
7’3” ws

Essengue is getting higher hype than Rupert (who was on some mocks as a first rounder 20 picks higher than where he went 2 years ago), and it would be a surprise if Noa is not a first rounder. There’s no conversation of Essengue being top 5, but as high as 8? To a team like the Spurs at 14 or the loaded OKC at 15. Or at 11 or at 16 with a hopefully acquired pick by the good guys? He’ll be an interesting story at the draft.

Sharpe and Tou are holding Rupert back.

Seriously, though, he needs minutes this year.
Who they draft could hurt that. But I think the biggest obstacle could be Thybulle.

I would really like to know Blazers' FO's views on Rupert (and to a lesser extent, Jabari and Kris). Seems like if they take Essengue or Bryant that they're tacitly giving up on one or all of them.

You would think Kris would be the odd man out, but it's probably Jabari. Rupert has the most potential. I don't see the Blazers giving up on him yet.

Yeah I would keep Rupert and re-sign Walker as cheap as possible, and draft the best wing available.
.

I think the Blazers will try for a trade or two during the draft, draft someone if they still have a pick (probably buy into the second roundn or sign an undrafted player for a 2way)then decide on who to resign/whether to take the option on Rupert (which I think they will).

You really believe Rupert has the most potential?

He is by far the most raw of the players. When he first joined the Blazers - it looked like he could barely run & chew gum at the same time.... I'm amazed at the progress he has made thus far, but he still has to improve 2x more to be a rotation level player.

Even in his G-League time, he's among the worst players on the team.

Great kid. Hard worker.... Not an NBA talent.

He hasn't even gotten a chance yet. Barely played. Hasn't been developed yet.

I like Walker, but he has reached his full potential. I really hoped that he would be a Mark Bryant type of player for us. Just a steady role-player who knew his role. He's not. He has never been a 15-20 min a night player, and he never will be.

His time with the Blazers needs to be over.

Rupert, on the other hand, is still very raw and still has potential. You shoot for him to be Batum-lite. If he does that, you've got something you need.

So you would not re-sign him for another 2-3 million a year?

No. Not for 12 mins a game, which is what he averaged last season. I think he's reached his ceiling. I'd rather use that roster spot and gamble on a 2nd rounder.

But he literally just improved his 3 ball? He's always been productive. Great rebounder. If he can shoot that 3 at a 37% clip, he's a keeper if it's cheap.

I think we can replace that .5 made 3pt shot per game.
