Both parties need to develop a hard stance of opposition against thier extrmist comstituents and force them to create thier own party.

Im a liberal republican. Im not a trump supporter per say, but im also not a Trump hater like some people are.

But as long as the vast majority of people are sheeples, it wont happen and more lunatics will rise to try to lead or end the sheeples lives.

Both sides is bullshit. If and when some fanatical follower of a Democratic politician goes on a violent crime spree, we should definitely call that out.

But the current case is a fanatical follower of Donald Trump, and it's wrong to dismiss it with 'both sides do it'. Right now, that's simply not true.

What @barfo is saying is when a liberal does something like this the liberal people on here accept yeah it was a left wing nutjob. But, when its a right wing nut who is a fanboy of Trumps, the highly conservative on here won't admit it and say it is so. Instead they use the its both sides excuse.

Thanks, that was indeed what I was saying. You didn't hear any of the both-sides bullshit when Scalise got shot. You also didn't hear any of the false-flag bullshit.

Also, one other key difference: Bernie didn't advocate for, or excuse violence himself. And he clearly and unequivocally denounced the shooter immediately after.

I'd have to agree this is a dog whistle. Why would anyone even give a shit what holiday greeting is used? The only reason I can see for making an issue out of this is to imply that Christianity is preferred to other religions. Ergo, dog whistle.

You'd have to give some context for that, it's not clear what you are referring to. There are plenty of uses that wouldn't be at all anti-Semitic (e.g., the NRA is a special interest). But one could also make an ad that says "Special interest groups are destroying the country. We have to kill all the Jews."

Hmm, who is sending bombs in the mail? Is it lefties?

barfo
Why would a National Holiday that is very traditional to Many Americans be a dog whistle?
And those that want to celebrate it either with a religious reason or simply a tradition American XMAS holiday, shouldn’t be concerning to those that don’t!
If the left wouldn’t have tried to displace the word XMAS in the first place all would be cool!
A little tolerance can be helpful for good.
And I’m not blowing a damn dog whistle.
Just an individual honest opinion...

It's not the existence of Xmas that is the issue. It's claiming (falsely) that there is some sort of 'war on christmas' and that 'you aren't allowed to say merry christmas anymore'.

The left never did that. I've never heard any politician on the left say anything negative about christmas, either the word or the holiday. Have you?

All the talk about not being able to say Merry Christmas is on the right, and it's all bullshit.

Have you ever had anyone, ever, tell you you aren't allowed to say Merry Christmas? If not, then why do you think it's a real issue?

barfo

And we didn't ever go to hate-filled rallies.

Btw, does the President of the United State have nothing better to do than fly around the country to rallies EVERY NIGHT? Can you imagine if Obama did this? They were pissed when he just went occasionally golfing.

I've heard it. It's why public displays of Christmas scenes don't contain scenes of the Nativity.
I've got mixed feelings about it although I'm a Christian and put an angel on top of our Christmas tree.
The problem is that Jews, atheists, Buddhists and Hindus don't accept Christ as Holy while Muslims do accept him as a prophet.
I never thought anything about the displays until someone, I presume from the Left, opposed the Christian aspects.
Anyhow, is there really a big deal about it? I can't really see where it hurts anyone. I need to be more convinced and I'll try to be objective about that.

Sure, he loves to show off and play golf as well.

Have you noticed how he salutes whenever he gets off AirForce 1, be it his 747 or his helicopter even though he was never in the military? Bad feet.

Now, do you remember all the flak Obama got when he saluted as he got off AirForce 1? Where is that flak now?

You, most assuredly, are not blowing any sort of dog whistle. You are expressing your honest opinion. This is clear as window pane.
Trump, on the other hand, constantly blows dog whistles or at least intends them to be some sort of stretch at being plausibly deniable. Is he being a white supremacist? I'll leave that to others to assert. However, I will say that White Supremacists think he's a White Supremacist. This is evidence that he blows a dog whistle.

Over time, its my felling that the progressive movement protested the use of nativity scenes and other acts (choirs in Mall's) as if it was a form of discrimination to other beliefs.
You even have the same progressives wanting the Ten Commandments taken down from various sites and such.
Maybe I shouldn't have said the left tried to displace the word. But I do believe that the far left progressive movement would rather not deal with any from of religious traditions as it doesn't fit their PC agenda and its offending to their space.
hell, when I went to school as a youngster they sang Silent Night & Away in a Manger. And there was nothing wrong with that i my mind. As long as other regions groups could celebrate their customs. Intact it might even help people understand and appreciate others more. Just a thought from an old guy that I guess like to hold on to certain traditions without offending anyone.

Personally Lanny, I don't think he's a white supremacist. I think he's a very egotistic business guy that has no diplomacy or polish whatsoever. He was elected because he was a disrupter and many in the mid west wanted him to beat Hillary. I know many of those dems and independents, they voted against Hillary and not so much for Trump, and I know they are not white supremacist, just hard working, middle class people. If they though he was they would not have voted for him. His Daughter, son in law & grandkid are jewish, and imo his own kids do not mirror the profile of a white supremacist, through their actions. Do you think his kids and grandkids would approve , condone him ,being a white supremest too?
Also, What white supremacist president would move the US embassy to Jerusalem? Just a thought?

Maybe you shouldn't have said it, but more to the point, Trump shouldn't have said it. It's not true, and the only reason for saying it is, it's a dog whistle.

Now, about the nativity scenes and the ten commandments and such on government property.

How do you feel about the statue of Satan which has been proposed to be erected on government property in Arkansas and Oklahoma? The idea being that if it is fair for Christians to have the 10 commandments posted at the state capital, it is fair for other groups to post statues for their religion as well.

What do you think? Keep the 10 commandments and Satan, or get rid of them both?

Oklahoma chose to take down the 10 commandments.

I think you see the problem there. How do the other religious groups celebrate their customs if the officials mandate a celebration of only the christian customs?

This country wasn't founded on Satanic principles.
The Church of Satan has very right to exist like any other faith. But to deny the historical fact that we were founded as a Judaeo Christian country, is like saying Napoleon didn't exist. Right or Wrong its the facts.
I said founded which doesnt mean it has to say that way though? But "In God We Trust" and "God Bless America" have been ingrained in this great country for a couple centuries plus. Is that wrong?
Just my feelings, which are not right or wrong.

The Ten Commandments should come down from public spaces. This is the ruling of the Supreme Court.
After reading about Supreme Court decisionS on this subject, I guess it depends on the circumstance.

Show me where they want to ban all Christmas songs. I believe people only want songs about Christ and the Christian religion removed from the public.

The natives at the time probably disagreed.

Nobody is denying the founders were largely christian. However, they created a country that was intended to be neutral towards religion, not a sponsor of a particular religion.

God Bless America, while written in 1918, wasn't released until 1938.
In God We Trust started being used on some coins in 1864 but wasn't required on all money until the late 1950's.

The statue of Satan or Baphomet is not erected at the statehouse in either state. Atheists and free speech activists with their mock religion had an unveiling there then moved it elsewhere.

I don't know what all the whining about Christmas is about. It's not even about Jesus anymore. Its become a secular, hallmark holiday.

Even at the Grotto my Granddaughters HS choir couldn't sing Christian XMAS music.
They could sing Jingle belles and not Oh Holy Night or Away in a manger.

I would like to note that Christian is spelled with a capital letter at the beginning of the word. The same goes for Muslim, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and God. I only spell atheism all in lower case.

Barfo, Im for freedom of religion, as were the founders and I realize they weren't promoting one over the others which is great!

I wasn't intending disrespect. Although I am a grammar Nazi, sometimes I myself fail on capitalization. If you look back through my posts in the thread, you'll see I used a capital C at least sometimes.

That seems puzzling, as far as I know the Grotto is church property. Perhaps the management was trying to reach a larger audience?

barfo

Thats my only point. It is a bummer.

But I guess if we allowed kids to sing oh holy night at school related events, we'd have to let them sing rockin round the buddah, Ala in a manger, and Deck the Baphomet as well.
