Hell yeah!

Gotta read the book to get the trailer. Otherwise it would look like a pretty boring flick! Can't wait for this, though. 3 parts? That is bad ass. I always figured it would have been almost impossible to do the film in one installment.

Fucking awesome.

The book is like 3000 pages.

I could see it being 2 parts, since I found the book to be two parts.

The first part is about all the bullshit between politics and government. The second part is a great science fiction story.

Who is John Gault? He's a brilliant engineer who invented a most amazing invention, but went on strike because the government and its crony capitalists stacked the deck against him.

I won't spill any more and ruin the plot for those who never read it.

I will say the book was the culmination of Ayn Rand's writing and philosophical work.

The Fountainhead was one of her earlier works turned into a movie staring one of the greatest actors of all time, Gary Cooper.

Rand's philosophy and writing is definitely interesting, but for me, after awhile, all of the 'guys like us are strong and brave and great, and everyone is a wuss' became boring and far too simplistic.

The book is amazing. I'm hoping the movie follows suit.

From the trailer, it really does look meh. But because I love Rand, i'll give this film a chance.

They are making two more of those? Looks like it is going straight to home video.

Play BioShock. Fun take on the novel.

Tax policy and the politics of train rail manufacturing? Sign me and my $10 admission up!

I tried reading the book 2 years ago. I think I got 200 pages in before I quit. Anyways, I read a lot more now so I'm gonna give it another shot before the movie.

The book is pretty over rated -- it makes a lot of sense if you view it as a reaction to the threat of communism that was strong when it was written. Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of schmucks treat it as their Bible because the whole virtue of selfishness thing gives them license to be assholes.

They missed their chance for a great movie while Roy Rogers was alive.

Read. The. Book. :)

you're right, compared to the book, it would be a relief to just watch 6 hours of a boring movie!

Speaking of Ayn Rand, how is that dead old social security accepting right wing santa claus?

WOW seriously Denny? I didn't peg you to be a moron that spoils the story! You really need to delete that. ninja edit: my copy was only 1k pages.

Wait I figured out why it's three movies!!!! The last one is that 100 page radio speech.

What are you babbling about? The book is philosophical in nature, not partisan.

My understanding was that Ayn Rand used her character to spew her political/economic ideas. Those being that government regulations are bad. Especially when you are redistributing wealth. Like Social Security does, the same kind she accepted.

P.S. she was an atheist.

How many words in a typical softback bestseller novel?

Best Answer - Chosen by Voters

Around 70,000-80,000.

Novels can and do vary a little bit but most publishers are VERY unwilling to publish anything shorter than 60,000. If they read a manuscript that falls short of 70,000-80,000 and they really like it so much that they feel the need to publish it then they will often ask for it to be extended. Sometimes they'll use a larger font too in order to 'extend' a short book.

The reason? Thin books look bad on the bookshelves and rarely sell well. People feel like they're not getting their money's worth.

Technically anything shorter than around 50,000 is a novella rather than a novel. Shorter than around 30,000 is a novelette. Shorter than 10,000 is a short story. Shorter still is flash fiction. Novellas or shorter aren't a wise decision if you're trying to write something to sell to a publisher.

Some novels have been longer than 80,000 but these days; anything longer than about 110,000 is approaching the realm of the epic and is in danger of being classed TOO long. Publishers will again be unwilling to publish extremely long novels as they can intimidate the reader and many will not buy the book as it seems like too much of a challenge and a commitment.

Why shouldn't she take from Social Security, since she was forced to pay in? She quite likely got back out a lot less than she would have from a private savings plan if there were no Social Security.

LOL u mad! regardless, that is not 3k pages! My copy was about 1100 pages as well, so yeah, I did round.

Nah, when I read the book, it was a REALLY long read. I needed magnifying glasses to read it (my eyes not so good anymore since I got older).

Steven King's The Dome is over 1000 pages and it's nowhere near as long a read.
