AUGUST 7TH DETROIT TIGERS VS NEW YORK YANKEES GAME THREAD 1:05PM START

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

last i saw it was 1-0 in 8th, if they won that is awesome!!!!!!! i like this team!!!!

Good call I was hoping for 4 but will settle for 3 now Baltimore is due for a losses and injuries.

When looking at a four game series with Detroit a split would've made me happy. Three out of four is fantastic.

this is a better team, and i think cashman deserves more credit from some a uzzzze, considering that the big names, which were very few, don't see the yankees as a championship team right now and wanted elsewhere. He found a few players who are decent contributers..... lets go yanks do some damage!!!

good point Pasta....some of these kids have been a pleasant suprise. Not sure how long Cappy can keep it up tho' after watching him get bombed time and time again his last yr as a Bum.

But you make a good point, tell ya' what, I'll lay off Cashman, or as I call him Cash-hole, if you lay off Girardi....with a bonus, I won't call him less than his true last name, if you don't call Joe an Idiot.

Keep in mind, regardless of Managerial moves, it takes more than a idiot to run a MLB Team, you of all know this....and I of all, know Cashman had no cards or chips on the table to deal with.

Needless to say, yes he has done a surprising job, picking up rejects, re-treads, and has beens, who've come to new life in De Bronx.....

done deal......?

Have a nice one Pasta.....! hey, how did you come about your SN? I bet you like Pasta....LOL, hell so do I.....homeade pasta, not the cheap store bought shit.....

I go to Olive Garden only twice, get fed frozen shit pre-made and packaged raviolis, and tell the Mgr. to stuff it up his ass, cuz I'm not stuffing it in my mouth. Never will go to Olive Garden, again, might as well just buy a frozen TV dinner, at least their that bad out here in So. Cal.....

back to business.......Go Yankees...!!!!!!:ghoti::chestbump:

my goodness, i don't recall callin joe an idiot, if i did i apologize, my pisan blood must have gotten the better of me...

just to be clear, i don't respect coaches who don't get on his players, joe is an enabler, case & point tex.... 1 nite while playin the giants, fouled 1 off plate came back hit me right in mouth, no damage to tooth but it came through my bottom lip. finished AB cause bases were juiced, drew a walk got a ribbie for team, that nite recieved 8 stitches to face, on field next day ready to play. made charlie hayes proud. Another situation, jim jones catcher for the A's threw a ball out of frustration 100miles an hour into my chest as i crossed the plate, his own fans booed him on my behalf, and that ain't easy coming from northen california fans, the usual were batteries and coins thrown at you, and beers, with police escourts!!! had a black and blue the size of a soft ball on chest, swelling, and was on filed next day for play... pro athletes play hurt IMO! its what seperates the men from the boys joe coddles his players too much for me

You can repeat it until the cows come home but there's no way a manager can force a player to play hurt. We really have no idea what Girardi does behind closed doors. If you're expecting Reggie Jackson vs Billy Martin fights in the dugout circa 1978 that's not going to happen these days.

...well stated, and I've essentially been saying this for quite awhile...the game of today has evolved into a completely different animal than the one we knew many years ago...all managers "coddle" their players, because teams and their owners want to protect their investments. If you commit several millions of dollars to a player/s, that player gets paid whether he plays or not and so it behooves management to ensure those high dollar players spend as much time on the field as possible...and if they try to rush an injured player back too quickly it can easily turn into something that will ultimately keep them out of the line up even longer.
...you can't compare today's players to minor leaguers or to players that played before free agency...it's just not the same.
...simply put, if you need to rest a player and let them heal for a 2-3 games and give them a better chance of performing up to their abilities, you do it. We may complain about Tex for example, but there is no disputing that the Yanx are a MUCH better team defensively when he plays than anyone else they can put out there. I'd rather him miss games now than in October. (if they get that far)

I understand what Pasta is saying, I mean you have to put the team first. So if you're in the 9th down one run & you need base runners & the shift is literally giving you the whole left side you BETTER know how to lay one down the 3rd base side to get on base. Sorry but there is just no reason or excuse not to be able to do that.

...what ?...where did he say or imply anything like that?

my exact sentiments as well......I - 2nd that notion/motion......this is no longer the game we grew up with....or, for a Mgr. Coach, Player;.....players are commodities these days...
Blew my mind when I heard early in the year, this pitcher or that pitcher, we being recalled off the Post Surgery DL , made me think, how MLB treats alot of Pitchers (commodities) like selling used cars, or recalling problematic cars......

I know he's talking about injuries but he's stated in the past (as have most of us) about the use of hitting against the shift. You can't ASK the players to do it, you have to TELL them to do it. Like I said...just no excuse. And like you've mentioned, the only way to stop the shift is to start hitting against it.

...rick, I'm talking about this thread...what someone has said in the past in a different thread about a completely different subject is irrelevant to what we were talking about in this thread...we were talking about players playing hurt, and it has nothing to do with "the shift". The term "shift" was not uttered once in this thread, and you said you "knew what he was talking about"...and he was not talking about the shift.

...just sayin'.

Picky, picky, picky. He was also talking about coddling players & I thought not hitting against the shift also applied to that comment.

59 , you're 100% right, todays player IS different!!! because of the money, years ago when i played it was for the love of the game, BUT!!! there are still coaches out there who get there players to BATTLE! for instance maddon, in a "spring training" game his boy took out cervelli at homeplate, broke his arm or something to that affect... thats what i'm talkin about!!!! show me something!!!!! thats where i''m coming from.... i'm doing push ups in my hotel room after curfew for my team, work ethic!!! a term that went out along time ago.. and i aint no gungho nut, its about the team!

...Maddon is a very good skipper, but if the manager is so crucial, why are the Rays 10 games out?...the Yanx are only 5.5 game out.

...does this mean that Girardi is 4.5 games better than Maddon? ...derp.

numbers are like puppets, you can make them say anything you want, but they never really reveal the obvious....to often the obvious, is strewed by those very numbers, some manipulate to get the desired result of thieves, not telling the real story, or truth......if I've learned one thing in life, it is numbers can lie.

People can make gold look like shit, or shit look like gold, using numbers to their own means.

Kinda' like WAR, what a useless non-legit stat.....!

u can argue that a coach is not crucial to a team, but then you have the phil jackson case.... the bulls and the lakers had the best players in the world, they couldn't get it done until the final piece of the puzzle was put in place, and jackson was it, yes or no?

I've got to be honest, Jackson is not a good example because he picked his fights. There's a reason he never took the Knicks job as a coach or several other losing teams that wanted his services. The fact that he only coached where he had the best chance of winning was by design. He never had to deal with scrubs or had to try a build a team. It was strictly superstars for him or nothing. Case in point he left the Lakers after Shaq left. And left the Bulls after Pippen & Jordan left.

If the true Zen Master, approached this convo with his own words, I't be more like, "is the boat moving by itself, or is the boat moving cuz the water's moving, no dummies, (whack with the stick), nothing moving but your minds..........."

All elements ARE essential to the mass sum of ITS parts. Each singular element is as crucial. The mass sum of all elements is no greater than its parts.

"I believe in nothing everything is sacred, I believe in everything, nothing is sacred"

Zen my ass, they were a very good team prior to Jackson coming on board. In 98 they went to the conf finals under Del Harris. And 99 (the year before Jackson picked his landing spot) there was a strike. Jackson joined the team for the 99-2000 season. And yes he implemented the Triangle offense that gave them that final push. So for that extra little shove I'll give Jackson credit. But lets be honest the foundation was already there. As 1000s have said over the years, he picked his battles wisely.

He'd also say, "back on your Zabutons, its not time for Kin Hin"

Is this staff short or tall....? said the 'Zen Master to his student.."answer short, tall, long, small, and I shall whack you with this staff 100 times, if you don't answers 1000 whacks,....now quick which is it.......?

now personally, I'd take the staff out of his hands, whack him with it, and say: now why do you ask me such stupid Questions....?

That IS the real Koan Breaker..........!!!

Just ask me, "I don't know nothing".....but I did study with Taizan Maezumi Zenji, and others; drunk from the deep clear still wells of Eihei Dogen Zenji, for most my life.....long before Phil was making lay ups himself as a mediocre player, n student of the game....not braggin, just the facts.....
