Whether or not you feel like Dame needs the rest, I'm a little surprised nobody is talking about it.

I think this year we care less and expected it. But yeah this year the response has been way different.

What is there to talk about at this point? Dame and CJ said it best....

It's also not much of a snub. After factoring in defense, both players were borderline All Stars. They were edged out by other borderline All Stars. It would have been cool to see Lillard and/or Gollum in the game, but I don't think some great injustice was done.

There's nothing to be excited about with this team until the trade deadline, and then the end of the season when the draft talk ramps up. Even if they make the playoffs there's nothing exciting about that at this point.

"Snub" implies that they deserved to be selected as all-stars. IMO, they don't deserve it this year. No snubbing going on there at all.

Yeah, there would probably be more conversation if it were more unexpected. But I think most of us saw this coming, even if we maybe hoped for inclusion.

I'm more surprised by the news that CJ will be participating in the 3 point contest anyway, despite indicating last week that he wouldn't.

I'm sure his agent recommended he do it.

I don't ever really get worked up about this kind of thing, but I can understand why some people do when a player gets in that just shouldn't. I looked at every player that made the roster this year and I don't have a problem with any of them; all of them put up good numbers and are either instrumental to their team's success (Draymond, Klay, Hayward) or monstrous talents that transcend their teams' mediocrity (Davis, Cousins).

You play to win the game. All things being close to equal I'd give it to the guy with a better record every time. It's not that Dame/CJ aren't all-star level players, but winning needs to be rewarded.

I'm glad Dame gets to rest his feet/ankles/etc for a week and get his mind and shot right four final run.

Try to do what you did last year. Get snubbed. Drop 50 a few times. Make an All NBA team.

But it's not Dame and CJ's fault we aren't winning.....right? They weren't given the tools like these other players. That's why I don't like rewarding players on teams that are simply winning.

Dame is one of my all time favorites but since he's returned from injury I can't even say he's been our second best player... I think this has been the worst stretch of his career

Winning is important on a team level. Players should be celebrated, or not, for how much they push their team towards winning--whether they actually get the wins has to do with the entire team.

Lillard and McCollum help the team towards wins a lot on offense, but hurt the mission on defense. Thus, not slam dunk All Stars and susceptible to being edged out.

The team is almost exactly the same as last year. Why are you exonerating Dame/CJ from this? Dame especially has been AWFUL as of late. His shot is in the toilet again and he isn't even trying on defense. Guys are just going at him for straight line drives to the rim over the past few weeks, and that has been a huge reason why we're losing.

If he's unhealthy, he will get an opportunity to rest and get back to where he was to start the season. But the Dame of the last 2 months or so is not an All Star given his competition.

I'm like the Dame of this forum...... has ups and downs, but I still bring it in spite of being surrounded by you cock gobblers!

yeah, not really a surprise at all, even if we had a winning record, it would have happened all the same. I guess we are all just getting used to the mediocrity that is the Portland Trail Blazers

That's funny, I've always considered Meyers the HCP of the Blazers.

Pretty funny. I genuinely laughed out loud.

Buuuuuut I'mma need to see that post you made that was the equivalent to Dame's 0.9 shot before you go comparing yourself to him.

See... you're lucky I don't participate in those landscaping jokes... :ghoti:

Statistically, Dame is still up there with the best of the game. I'm never going to accept the All-Star game, a supposed weekend for the fans, as a way of patting guys on the back for winning games. That's not the spirit of the event.

If your argument starts out, "well that guy is better, but this guy's team won more games," then I feel like you understand the point of individual achievements.

Its definitely a snub, the only way its not is if you say its because of our record but then that negates Cousins and winning has not mattered that much the last 7 or so year when it comes to the ASG. You add in the fact Lillard is the only player in the last 30 years to avg 26 4 and 5 to not make the AS game and yes it is most definitely not just a snub but one bigger then last year. If a player was on the Lakers or NY and put up those numbers and didn't make the game all the media would be talking about is how its the largest AS snub of all time.

Last year we were a team on the rise and Dame was beasting right before the all start break, playing his best ball of the entire season.

This year we a a team going nowhere and Dame has been struggling to make shots, playing his worst ball of the season (so far).

Not the same situation at all. Last year was a snub. This year, not so much.

I don't think it's just simply winning though - All of the guys who made it are winning AND having good years. The Spurs are only 2.5 games behind Golden State and have only one guy in the all-star game, so it's not only about winning.

Isn't this why we track overall stats though? Shouldn't it be the cumulative play of the entire first half of the season and not just "recently?"

Nobody has averaged what Dame is averaging and missed out. Nobody. Not ever. How can it not be a snub if he's putting up numbers that have always been selected to the team?
