Awfully quiet about the snubs in here...

DRTG 114 vs DRTG 107 but I have no credibility I guess

If the Blazers were over.500, I'd get excited about the snub. As it is, meh.

I guess we have finally reached that part of the cycle.

Acquire player---------------->Love player---------------->Shit on player (we're here)------------------> Trade player or player leaves.

Four guards from the Western Conference made the all star team. Two starters and two reserves. Saying Dame is not currently among the top 4 guards in the West based on the way he's been playing is hardly the same as "shitting" on him.

Lots of baloney in this thread.

Lots of terrible defenders have made the AS team, a variety of terrible offensive players, too - including THIS year.

I think much of the confusion stems from the popular idea that this is an award for individuals. I don't think it is, rather it's a TEAM award. Lillard and CJ weren't snubbed, the Blazers were. You could make a lot of reasonable arguments for why the Blazers should/shouldn't be snubbed.

Top teams in West (in order):
GS, starter, starter.
SA, starter.
Houston, starter.
LAC, check (would be starter, too, but CP3 is injured)
Jazz, check (this is why GH made the team!)
OKC, check.
Memphis, check.

That's 8 of 12:
Nuggets, Blazers, Kings, Pels are the next tier of teams by record. Here's what the voters did:

GS, GS, Kings, Pels (starter).

So, it's really Blazers vs Kings vs. 4th GS. I don't agree with the voters. I think Blazers should have won over 4th GS, and probably the Kings, too, which is why I consider it a snub.

Only if you're clearly better than guys who made it. He wasn't unarguably the best, though, nor was he clearly better than players who made the team. He was in the argument with guys like Hayward, Jordan, Thompson, Gobert, etc. It wouldn't have been wrong for him to make it, nor is it wrong for him not to make it.

Defense does matter to value. It's not like Lillard is even an average defender. He's a way below average defender, so that leeches away some of the positive value he brings with his offense.
Haywards not a good defender either, and his offensive numbers don't come close to Lillards... No way that you can say Hayward made it because he's having a better season.

"Awfully quiet about the snubs in here..."

Don't blame me. Last night I tried to bring the appropriate thread back to its subject. The thread had become all about 13-year-old girls or something.

Hayward's about an average defender. He's not scoring as much as Lillard, but he's scoring more efficiently. And his Offensive Rating is on par with Lillard's, so his overall effect on his team's offense is pretty profound.

And I'm not saying he's having a better season. He's one of the "on the bubble" guys, like Lillard. I think it would have been fine for Lillard to make it over Hayward, and I think it's fine for Hayward to make it over Lillard. I think they have similar value--I wouldn't argue if you preferred Lillard to Hayward, but I don't think the difference is enough to call it an injustice.

Hayward also takes more than 4 fewer shots per game than Dame and plays on the team with the slowest pace in the league. Their PERs are comparable and Hayward has a better TS% and is shooting much better from 3-point range than Dame.

The big difference is:

UTA = 30-18
POR = 20-27

Reverse the records and Dame makes it over Hayward.

And CJ probably makes it too

The All Star Game is a Joke
Our record is a joke
Tell me again why I should care enough to spend the time debating whether they should be in or not?

Just sayin...

Since when does defense count when selecting All-Stars? Ever heard of Carmello Anthony? Zach Randolph? James Harden? Steve Francis? Wally Fucking Szerbiak?

Because no player will ever live up to the expectations that this fanbase sets for them. Not Brandon Roy. Not LaMarcus Aldridge. Not Rasheed Wallace. Can't we just be happy to have a really good player at a position where we used to have Nolan Smith?

Brandon Roy did live up to it.

It was his knees that didn't.

You either retire a hero (like Roy) or play long enough to become the villain (like Aldridge).

Why? Our record doesn't deserve an all-star nod. You're not an all-star if your team doesn't win.

Absolutely not a snub.
Cousins made it this year and by that definition he shouldn't' have, love has made it multiple times with horrid teams as well as griffin. If team record still mattered that would be one thing but it hasn't for about 7 years now.
