Awfully quiet on the NEIL OLSHEY front

I kind of wish WAS would take Mo and Dorell for Webster.

It would seem to shore up our backcourt and provide some at least competent defense. His deal's not perfect, but not terrible. And it would provide some insurance if Wes wants too much money down the line.

Plus, doesn't he still live here in the offseason? He'd probably be pretty happy with 20 mpg in a motion offense. I think, next to Rudy and Sergio, he suffered the most under Nate's offense.

These starters are too good to waste with this bench. No way we're a contender without some major growth from a young guy or two, I think we have to make a trade (w/o using starters obviously) to try to put us in the mix.

some guys that could be had seem like: Shumpert (for D, being in a real system might help him), I like the Seraphin mention above, as you've seen I like the thought of Andre Miller, Frye or Hawes would also be great role players for us that could provide offensive consistency off the bench.

Why do we need a big? What are Lopez and Freeland doing wrong?

The sound of nothing happening is usually quiet and I agree, we don't really need another big on the bench

Olshey learned from watching Kevin Pritchard from afar that it's not good enough to build a solid team. After the team starts getting publicity, the GM should slink back in the shadows, and let Bert Kolde take the credit that he's due for being Paul Allen's college roommate.

Remember what happened when Hat Guy started to get a little publicity? Last I heard he's a haberdasher in Walla Walla.

Here's what Neil is up to...(phone rings) Hi, Neil Olshey...huh? No thanks! (ring....)Hi, Neil here...huh? No thanks! (Repeat all day long).

Lots of MRA's in Walla Walla. The fedora business is good.

Just under a month until the trade deadline.

It all comes down to whether we think this can be our year.

-Can we win a playoff series with the roster as is? I think so.
-Are we better than a healthy OKC? Doubt it.
-If we somehow luck into the finals, can we beat MIA/IND in 7 games? Doubt it.

The fact that I can even ask these questions with a straight face tells me that we aren't too far from this thing. I would be okay with Neil going all in. Just sucks that we don't have any assets to work with.

But something else to consider: there are 21 teams with higher payrolls than ours, but only maybe 4 or 5 teams ahead of us in terms of championship chances. Maybe give us a year or two to build some assets and we can go all in then.

Definitely a sort of fork in the road that Neil was referencing earlier

the two teams I really don't think we can beat in the playoffs are OKC and Houston, as we are currently constructed, I think we have a good or valid chance against anyone else

I think we can take Houston. We are almost carbine copies of each other save for the fact we shoot the three ball a hell of a lot better then them.
I agree that we have a good chance against everyone besides OKC which is why I think Olshey is going to be quiet this trade deadline and see what this club is capable of doing in the Playoffs before making off season moves to acquire the talent we need to take the next stepm

It's not about NeO, it's about tanking. We make a trade if a team wants to go into full tank mode and dump their decent player for salary cap/increase suckage reasons. I don't know if any teams want to suck that bad. Does New Orleans want to get into the tank game? AD hurts their chances, but if they made a trade or 2.... Philly, Boston, NY are all in good position to tank, but they have to get a bit more serious about it. A trade could make that happen.

It's unlikely we get a sweetheart of a deal, but that's the only deal we would probably make. Let's assume one such trade is out there (like the NY rumor):

As I don't believe we would trade a starter because of our start. I also don't think we'd trade Robinson. Regardless of what I'd like, I'm sure we're not trading Mo. We are definitely not trading CJ (because he's good and because of his relationship to Lillard). That means if we make a trade, we're trading Freeland because his salary is $3.1 Mil (that's more that Claver, Crabbe, and Barton combined) and you have to send out $ to get a player earning $. Wright also makes $3.0 Mil, so he'd be likely gone as well.

carbon copies? Pretty sure Howard just crushed Lopez like a fly in that last game. Made him look foolish

blazers are 9 million or so under the lux tax line, hopefully NO is looking at taking on a little short term salary as a way to acquire an asset or two.

also, i think the pelicans pick is top 5 protected, they could get into a serious tank push asap, dont really like anyone on their team except anderson/jrue/davis though, and they likely feel the same way

realistically, we should have our pick of the big man (waiver/buyout/etc) market shortly after the trade deadline with ample potential playing time, prolly a better idea to wait until then instead of "consolidating" for a jeff green or charlie villanueva

Not very good defensive teams that try and play an out and in game and shoot a ton of threes.

I would love to do a trade with Boston.

If they were willing to move Rondo, would you do a Rondo/Dame backcourt? I wonder what that would cost.

I really like Sullinger but I doubt they'd move him. Green is very intriguing. He'd be great off the bench.

I wonder if Boston would do Green/Sullinger for TRob, Leonard, Mo, and Crabbe.

Dame/Watson
Wes/CJ
Nic/Green
LA/Sullinger
Lopez/Freeland.

Adding Sullinger and Green would give our bench a ton of firepower. I love what Sullinger brings to the table. He's exactly the kind of stretch four that we've been needed. That guy torched us.

Rumors: Celtics looking to trade Jeff Green? bit.ly/1hKUSdo

I think the losses to HOU and OKC simply emphasize the necessity to upgrade the bench/roster

He would be if his salary wasn't backloaded

And people didn't already know that they're over a barrel with him. The guy is going to start getting really vocal the closer we get to the deadline.

and there is that possible knee issue as well, value dropping by the day

a big fat LOL at that and it appears all the GM's are LOL'ing as well, there is fantasy and there is reality

They blew it when they put that self-imposed deadline on trading him, and then backed away from it.

I think winning a title is a bit of a process typically. This season is a season to have a great season get in the playoffs andof course try to win the whole thing, but the team lacks playoff experience. Assuming we stay as a top 3 seed I think we win the 1st series. That's a building block. Going "all in" might be a good idea if you are getting an all-star caliber starter, but I don't think it's a good idea going for reserves.

IMO our starting 5 can compete with anyone, it's after that where the issues arrive, we do not need another an all star
