Exclusive Ayton is agreeing to buyout

Funny video from Laker fans - seems some are regretting bringing in Ayton for even a piece of the MLE. Perfectly details the pitfalls of Ayton even if the PPG/RPG make it look like he's a productive center (he's not)

So glad he is off this team. I think Damon Stoudamire is the only Blazer I watched that I despise more. I think I might actually prefer watching Raymond Felton play as Blazer to DeAndre Ayton.

I wonder what Ayton will get on his next contract? Might be a vet minimum deal. Reminds me so much of Whiteside. They are both centers that chase individual stats and are complete zero's in tons of areas all over the floor. I remember a bunch of people here saying how we or another team would have to pay Whiteside $20+ million. Then Whiteside left our team to sign in Sacramento as the 3rd string center for the vet minimum and was out of the league not too long after.

Wonder if Ayton gets traded at the deadline? That Laker team has tons of offense with Luka/Reeves/LBJ - but desperately needs the rest of the team to contribute on defense. DeAndre Ayton might be one of the worst centers in the league for trying to provide those contributions.

Actually I see Ayton has an $8.1 million player option next season - is he going to pick that up now?

Nuts that he started this season on our cap for $35 million!

The dude is the starting center on a .600 team. Leading the Lakers in rebounding. Shooting .675 from the field. While a contract hit for the Lakers of about a quarter of Holiday and Grant get from the Blazers, and less than Lillard and Robert Williams and Thybulle.

I was never a big fan (not enough blocks, no shooting range, attitude problems) and wasn't happy that the Blazers traded for him, but Blazers fans gloating over it at this point is strange to me.

So if a player has a great game we don’t talk about it…..only shitty games? The man had a 28/14 game the other night and nothing….I have never been a fan of his and don’t know where this all got started. I simple said I would rather have HIM than what we are rolling out there every night here. A few blasted me for this. Also one had the nerve to say they would take Yang’s nightly productivity over anything that DA would do. THEY ACTUALLY SAID THIS and this forum member got props for this opinion.

Every minute that DC is on the court instead of DA is a blessing for our franchise.

If you think big picture? Absolutely. If the goal is to win the next game, not especially. But that is not my goal and this should not be this franchise's goal.
Great point and that’s what was being discussed…….THIS season, not the future……which is why i didn’t understand the normal hype on here. Which is why i predicted 31 wins this season. Which is all I was saying. We would win more games with DA as our starting center THIS season than what we got. That’s’ all I said.

How about the centers we have now. They ‘blessing” us?

Go ask Laker fans what they think about DAs year. And then remember he's be doing that being paid significantly more than DC, who you said would barely be able to be a starter.

Sit this one out. ;)

He’s Whiteside minus the shotblocking and consistent rebounding

Gross

laker fans I’m quite sure are content. Compared to the centers they’ve rolled out since Shaq. If they are REALISTIC fans they are. If they are unrealistic nut jobs that think every one of their players need to put up Wilt type numbers like THIS place, then that’s on them. I bet they’d rather have DA than what we got…..I PROMISE you that.

And remember I don’t like DA….but I also don’t like unrealistic takes simply based on team fandom.

Bull. Guarantee every one would take clingan over ayton

I'd rather have Ayton on the Blazers instead of Westbrook.

Are you saying there are unrealistic nut job fans of the Lakers just like the Blazers? I never would have guessed...

Well I guess theres players in the league I enjoy rooting for and against. Ayton was really rare (for me anyways) in that I began to strongly despise him while he was a Blazer. Yes I was delighted when he left our team. I've found it super interesting seeing some Lakers fans coming to grips with a similar realization.

The video I linked is pretty well done and illustrates why its so frustrating to root for him regardless of the seeming useful stats that you and others mention. Its actually super rare to have a player with those level of stats but such a negative impact to his teams game. I suppose that's why he is an intriguing case to follow once you have realized a deeper understanding of his impact to a team.

If it seems petty - well your right it is very petty. But really everything with being a hardcore NBA fan is petty. Its a made up game with no bearing on anything important.

Dude has legit NBA talent though. Wouldn't surprise me if he is still having massive issues with video game addition. Maybe some year randomly he improves and becomes a beast on the court. Or perhaps not and he is on a vet minimum deal in a few years. I'll follow the circus either way.
