No, because he brought 6 championships to Chicago. What did Roy bring to Portland besides some very good memories and a lot of unfulfilled hope?


Don't get me wrong, I loved broy as much as any other blazer fan, but his going to minny stings. No way even close to comparable to Jordan's situation in DC...
 
Well, it never really was officially my decision to retire. With the process in Portland, I met with the team doctor, we talked for awhile, we have a really, really good relationship. He's a guy that's been working with me for five years with my knees. It was a situation where I went in for the physical, he thought it would be in my best interests to stop playing basketball because of my knees. We pretty much left it up to the team to decide if they wanted to pursue the medical retirement route. After a week, they decided to use the amnesty. For me, it was never that I was retired. My knees were a situation that I was going to have to think about if I wanted to continue playing. After a few months of sitting out, I decided, 'Hey, I don't want to stop playing basketball.' It's something I want to continue going forward with. It's never a situation where I said, 'I'm done forever.' It was more of a pause.

Boy this sure contradicts what he said here

"I love the game, I love the Portland Trail Blazers and I love our fans, but after consulting with my doctors, I will seek a determination that I've suffered a career ending injury, pursuant to the rules of the collective bargaining agreement."

Jordan put up PER of 20.7 and 19.3 his two seasons with Washington. He was still one of the best players in the league.

He posted career worsts in a number of categories, going alone with what Nate said, that he wasn't near the player he once was.

Come on Denny, do you think "one of the best players in the league" comes anywhere close to describing what Jordan was for the Bulls?

Sure, he was still an All-Star level player, but not anywhere near what he was. It was just a testament to how great he was that he could still put up All-Star numbers in his 40s.

My point was simply that Jordan in Washington was not the Jordan that we saw with the Bulls, and similarly Brandon Roy in Minnesota will not be the Brandon Roy that we knew in Portland. That's it. Not much depth to the analysis. Obviously Roy was nowhere near as good as Jordan, I'm just saying both players should have stayed retired.

Exactly. They saw his huge salary and how little was left.of his meniscus. The Blazers then decided to amnesty.

We could have waited atleast a year to amnesty if we really wanted him back.

Yeah, but had they not amnestied him when they did, they would've have been able to sign Jamal Crawford and I can already see why my point is a bad one so nevermind.
 
Don't like this at all. That said, he is a great guy and I will be rooting for him to light it up every night except against us. He is going to kill Wes in the post!
 
I'm totally fine with it. I'm actually going to probably end up at his first game back as a T-wolf at the Rose Garden and I will probably rock my Roy Blazers jersey that night.
 
The number is for the number of minutes per game he'll be effective.

As a Bulls fan, I was pissed at management for breaking up the team that just won the championship. Jordan put up those numbers 4 years after retiring as a Bull. Pippen went on to play for Houston, then Portland and was still great.

Jordan retired at the top of his game (6 time champion), not because he was too hurt to play anymore. Jordan won 6 championships for Chicago.

If Roy won 6 championships for us, retired, and then wanted to play a little more for Minnesota for the lve of the game, I'd be happy for him.

There is no comparison whatsoever.
 
The way Minnesota is selling Roy is like how a dive bar would sell a cover band like its the real McCoy.
