As already known, the Nets have put the deal with portland on hold due to phsyical concerns they have about Shareef. So the Nets may need a backup plan. I have come up with a few alternatives that maybe solid backup plans.

Of course try a trade, this would be extremely to near impossible to do without giving up a key part in a deal(Jefferson, Kidd,Carter) but I have try to come up with a few solutions....

Nets Trade: Zoran Planinic, Ron Mercer, Jacque Vaughn & a lottery protected 1st round pick to Cleveland for Drew Gooden.


Pros of the trade for New Jersey: We get a guy who can give us close to a double-double without giving up any key parts.

Cons of the trade: The future 1st rounder is probably the most important thing leaving. But the Nets also give up 3 backcourt guys...but a solution maybe found in the free agent market with a Jon Barry, or Doug Christie even Allan Houston.

How can New Jersey get Cleveland interested: The 1st rounder may interest a young and up coming team. Also with Eric Snow all but headed to New York to reunite with Larry Brown, a guy like Vaughn brings a nice veteran pressence on the right way to play the game. Marcer can be a contract dumper to create cap space and potential can still be used in the same sentence as Planinic for now.

Another trade possiblity....

Nets Trade: Zoran Planinic, Ron Mercer & a 2nd round pick to LA Clippers for Wilcox

Pros of the Trade for Jersey: Wilcox has a ton of potential that hasnt been taped yet playing behind Brand & Kaman. He could be a diamond in the rough...and nice inside player. Also he wont come in expecting to start like a Rahim or Gooden...so the Nets dont have to disrupt the starting core.

Cons of the Trade: Wilcox will help create depth but his addition alone will not be close to enough to put them on the top 4 level in the East..the Nets will still have to find away to add Grant or Davis.

How can the Nets get LA to bite: They probably cant...this trade comes down to if teams see potential in Planinic as a combo guard. With Jaric leaving Planinic maybe able to come in to take some of those combo minutes. And develope into a nice player on a team with no pressure to win. Also Clippers owner ship loves to save money...bye-bye Mercer.


Either of the trades would be a hard deal to pull off, so here are some free Agent moves that I think we may be able to work out.

Split the MLE between Steven Hunter and Brain Grant....But inorder for this to happen we would have to get Cleveland to do a sign & trade with McInnis instead of signing him straight up. I dont think we could get Hunter & Davis both for the MLE, which would be ideal, because Davis has alot of offers so he is going to want a large piece of the MLE leaving nothing for Hunter.

2ndary FA situation...sign Dale Davis & a 3rd teir level bigman( Malik Allen, Traylor, Harrington...someone like that) of course Cleveland would have to do the sign & trade with McInnis as well for this situation.

I highly doubt Cleveland would bite on the Gooden deal. Gooden is a young and solid big man who puts up 14.4/9.2 which is much more than what any player put up on the Nets. Also, those players on the Nets have suffered many injuries which will make it even tougher for the trade like that to go down. The first rounder helps, but with the Nets looking to tear up the league next season, it isn't as valuable; especially since the draft next year is probably not as deep as it was in 2005.
 
ya i doubt they will get gooden but wilcox is decent but nets would need a better big man to be contenders in the east... i still think they shouldve signed stromile swift instead
 
Those trades would be nice but for some reason i doubt they will happen but im still sure then nets will go with the trade.
 
What I found ironic was the talk earlier in the offseason of Wilcox for Gooden. First of all, what a bit of ridiculousness that was, but now we see them both draw similar interest from needy clubs. I definitely do not think Wilcox matches up well with Gooden (in trade value) at all, so I guess I must have missed some key detail in those talks.

New Jersey does need some presence down low with this deal in jeopardy. And the pickings are slim, but with their already marked indifference to half court defense (Shareef was no exception there) Vlad might make a decent alternative. A sign and trade with Seattle might shore that situation up. I know they're well over the cap, so obviously just signing him outright isn't an option, but S&T might work for them both. Some of that back court help offered in the Gooden deal might entice Seattle, but I doubt it, to be frank. And Zoran doesn't make a good piece of bait for them either.

It's a tough situation to be in frankly, I guess the best thing for them would be to see Shareef healthy and playing.
 
I guess it's time to revive this thread. We're in a dire situation, and if we don't at least get some help, Kidd's situation won't get any better.
 
Well, we all know what the Backup plan was now. WTF!
 
I'd push hard after Evans know. You can make an arguement that the Nets need Evans more than they need SAR because he's a better defender and a much better rebounder.

And? We still can add more bigs, and we still have parts of our MLE as well as some 1st and 2nd round picks to work with.

I would only do this next deal if, it was garunteed we get a guy who can guard 5's in the post like Davis or Grant thru free Agency.

But any way.....

Nets trade: Collins, Planinic & 1st round pick(lottery protected) to Cleveland for Drew Gooden and Luke Jackson.

I think Gooden and Jackson(Luke) really would excel playing in a more uptempo style...you get to see more of the passing skills Jackson displayed in Oregon. He can shoot which we need. It would leave us with a roster something like this....

Jefferson/Luke Jackson
Drew Gooden/Nenad Krstic/Cliff Rob
Marc Jackson/Brain Grant or Dale Davis

I dont know about you guys but I like the mix, Krstic & Gooden at the 4 can give us some points, Marc Jackson can give us some bulk at the 5 spot. And Robinson and Grant/Davis bring defense and veteran savy to both big man spots. The depth is pretty good in my opinion.
 
That's insane. I came to The New Jersey Nets forum after about half an hour of playing on the Real GM trader to piece together a deal so NJ could aquire Drew Gooden. Come to find out you've already done the same, What's the chances of that happening, however mine is a little bit different...

Summary
This makes sense for alot of reasons. New Jersey now needs a Power Foward after the Abdur-Rahim fallout. Who better than Drew Gooden? He's young, He's cheap, and is capable of running the floor in New Jersey's offense. I think putting him alongside Jason Kidd will really improve his development over the course of just a single season.

New York, and more importantly Larry Brown, wants Eric Snow. This deal gets it done. Not to mention they get a REAL center in Jason Collins. No more under sizing in New York. They would also receive a 1st and 2nd Round draft pick to help them improve their roster which will without a doubt change given the large contracts always coming and going.

Cleveland is looking to put young talent and veteran role players around Lebron James. So Malik Rose, with championship rings, will be a nice replacement for Drew Gooden. Not to mention they would aquire Mike Sweetney, Zoran, and Nate Robinson who all show great potential in their young careers. This trade should finalize Cleveland's starting lineup and bench.

Giving up Collins in that situation isnt good either, unless they get a legitimate bigman defender. Krstic cant deal with alot of the top bigs defensively, Jackson isnt a good defender. Gooden is good, but cant guard the 5 spot. And Cliff Robinson is aged, so his defense has taken a decline.

The Knicks dont give up Nate Robinson and Mike Sweetney for what they are getting in return.

Henacy, can you tell me why Jackson is not a good defender?
I think he is a intimidator for us in the paint.

He has bulk, but he isnt that moible. And injuries over the years has effected the laterial quickness. So those are probably the reason his defense is most effected.
 
Knicks to release Jerome Williams

It seems that Jerome Williams, due to the Knicks hoping Allan Houston retires, will become available under the new luxury tax rule. Ithink he is an excellent frontcourt pick up. He replaces of of the hustle intangibles that we lost with Scalabrine going to Boston. But he also provides us with much better defense then Scalabrine or any of our current forwards can provide. I think Williams ablity to run the floor fits in well with some of the concepts our running game has used in the past. What do you guys think about Williams? He wont score alot but brings alot of other things to the table in my opinion.
 
That would be an excellent backup plan. JYD is the type of guy would fit well playing on any team. He would be an instant crowd favorite and is very active and aggressive. Basically, he would be like a better version of Brian Scalabrine for the Nets. As a Knick fan, it would hurt to see one of my favorite Knicks in another jersey.
 
Williams might be a good option to replace Scalabine. I think that he would be a good pick up for the Nets in terms of some depth and size. He is past his prime, but looking at his stats he can rebound very well. He also seems to be capable of playing defence as well. Things did not work out for him in New York that much, but he might be a worth a gamble by the Nets.
 
He is a possiblity. I would rather have him than Croshere so lets see if the nets chase after him.
 
I think Jerome would be an excellent addition to the team. He brings hustle, defense, and agressiveness, which is pretty much what we need. I would really like to have him in the rotation. Hopefully, he'll agree to our last part of the MLE(1.5 million) or the veteran exception(around 1 million, i think). He's not getting younger, though, so maybe we should got for a 1 or 2 year contract.
 
This is really good. We'll be able to get JYD for a minimum contract so it won't have to come from our MLE (I think). He's the perfect player for our needs. He'll bring a defensive and hustle spark off the bench and brings rebounding as well. If we added JYD, I think our frontcourt would be set, and all we'll need to do is add a cheap shooter with the remainder of our MLE. It would have been good to have SAR, but I actually think that an addition of both Jackson and JYD will actually fir our game strategy better.

BTW, I think Croshere is out of the picture anyway because Indiana waived Reggie for amnesty. But I don't know why everyone was so down on getting Croshere, cosidering the number of times last year he burned us with threes at clutch points of the game.

Finley also has been waived, but I think adding him would just clog up our guard position and reduce Antoine's PT. Anyone have any insight as to who we might bring in as a shooter if we do in fact take JYD?

Ya they did. I think they are still good friends.

Denver gets the SG they need, and also gets rid of Nene, who was unhappy because he did not get much playtime behind K-Mart. The concept of this trade makes sense for both teams.

We dont really have a clog or logjam on the wing....yes we have bodies their but the only quality is Richard Jefferson, Vince Carter and the potential of Wright, anybody else like Zoran Planinic etc isnt creating a logjam cause the Nets management and coaching staff doesnt have much faith in him. They are trying to add another wing player so he doesnt have to be in the rotation consistently.

As far as the trade goes...I would be lying, if I didnt say"I would do that trade in a heart beat"...cause I would. But I doubt Denver is willing to do it...if they trade Nene, it would be in a package to get a proven shooting guard.
